I remember a brown taking a mudeye off the back of my waders one night during a hatch at Lake Lyell.
I heard him coming along the flat slurping at his leisure.
Interesting Robert with your leader choice. Many of the gun Tassie trout fly fishermen steer away from flurocarbon and still make up their leaders with Maxima Ultra green - a great mono which I use exclusively for rock fishing for drummer as it knots exceptionally well, is stiffer, almost invisible and is extremely abrasion resistant.

A better monofilament there never was….. although i could place Tortue or Snider up there as well.
Think I may have the remnants of a 500mtr spool of 6lb Maxima in the shed.
Frank - I grew up fishing Maxima - and I do sometimes wonder if the expensive fluorocarbon that I buy today is really that much stronger and really that much more abrasion resistant than regular Japanese fluorocarbon that is 1/10 the price - as an aside, the Sunline 10lbs that I am using for my mono rig is A$28 for 150m…
@@robertlouis24 Interesting observations Robert and my sentiments too. One thing with Maxima, the recipe has remained unchanged and the specialise in making quality mono. I like traditions and companies who pride themselves in producing one product and in doing it well,

You guys are walking all over spawning redds. WHY do you need to stand in the water to fish it? Stupid. It just damages eggs if they have set down, along with spooking the rest of them . Apart from the fact the rules say not to do just that.

You mentioned you left at 6 and returned at 6 and needed to get away from people fishing the river. Whilst you keep publicly advertising every trout stream in NSW, more people will flood the local rivers as I have noticed at one particular river in the Blue Mountains. Not to long ago this had minimal pressure, now there are plenty of people fishing this river. What ever happened to fishing a river and keeping the name quiet. Isn’t anything sacred in this crazy world.

You fish during spawning? Don't you have some rules or ethics over there?
So technically this is like a 'Pre spawn run" where some fish have started moving up stream, but the closed season kicks in very soon. Research has shown it hasn't affected the trout population in the river, however definitely not for everyone.
