Looking through the comments, I noticed that many people said that Henry never loved Catherine. That's not true. Henry married Catherine from love. He had a relationship with Anna, as it were, from love, but also because he wanted a son.

I swear if one word could be used to describe Catherine and Anne's situation it would be irony. Because Anne thought she was so much better than Catherine when in truth they were a lot alike. Both were previously involved with another man before marrying Henry (Catherine married his brother first while Anne was briefly engaged/or having an affair with Henry Percy), both were pushed to marry him by their fathers (Although Catherine's father did it more out of love and thought for his daughter's well being while Anne's was just a power hungry social climber) both suffered miscarriages and only delivered one healthy child which was born a daughter, and both were in the end discarded by their husband Henry albeit they were discarded in different ways. The only really big difference between these two women in regards to their history with King Henry was how they went about rejection and infidelity. Catherine no doubt was hurt by her husband's adulterous nature but she was smart enough to realize that in the time period she lived in, a woman should never scold or berate her husband especially if he was high in rank. She also did not make a big scene about it because she was a queen and a queen is always dignified, respectful, graceful. She serves her people and does not allow them to see if she is angry or hurt because as a monarch she is a symbol of strength and wisdom to her people which in turn earned their respect and devotion. Probably why Henry didn't cut off her head because she was so adored and respected by his people. This behavior applied even when Henry divorced her. Yes she voiced her contempt and hurt but she did so in a dignified manner. And even though her husband spurned her cruelly and unjustily, she would forever be loved and seen as a true queen even after death. Anne on the other hand was more arrogant and prideful. She thought that she should have been seen as Henry's equal which unfortunately was a dangerous way of thinking back then. She wasn't really discreet about how she felt about Henry's philandering ways and didn't take it in a dignified way which probably made her come off as spoiled and whiny to her people. This was especially unwise considering that England pretty much hated her. She probably didn't understand her position as well as Catherine did because unlike her, Anne was not royal by birth therefore she was not trained and schooled in the ways of being a proper queen. In fact I think the only thing her family schooled her on was the benefits of being queen and not the burdens. So she lost her head but left behind a daughter who would prove to succeed where she failed.

Which is backed up by the Anne boleyn files which describe that he already had a powerful position at court and both him and Anne's uncle 'tried to dissuade the king rather than otherwise from the marriage' it claims both prevented it a year before it happened. There is evidence to say both were vehemently against it and only statements after Anne's death really otherwise which are famously unreliable in regards to Anne. Documentaries still often take henry's side of things despite the fact we know how terrible he was
The major difference as to why Henry did not cut off Katherine’s head is that she was royal of birth, from a very VERY powerful house that ruled Spain and the Holy Roman Empire, and also she was very much loved by the English people and by the nobility, also killing a royal would make his family and himself vulnerable, cuz people would notice that royals are not Devine after all.

I thought the same, but many characters in The Tudors are weirdly cast, imo, with Henry for a start, Jonathan's face shape is the complete opposite to Henry's squarish shape, they decided to put on a cartoonish chin on Charles of Spain while both Francis of France and Henry looked like Hollywood actors (I actually think Charles look better than Francis in their protraits).... In the show "Carlos Rey Emperador" I think the casting is more consistent, even if they're beautified too.
Catherine was right in the end, he did grew tired of her. Not to say that it was all her fault (and she definetly didn't deserve death for it), but what can you expect when you had an affair with him (even if there wasn't sex, you can't say there wasn't a romantic relationship there) and lure him out of his marriage with the promise -basically- of sex? If love isn't taken care of, once that sex is no mystery it turns boring, and if Henry learnt something from his relationship with Catherine was that if he was bored, he could always put the crown on a new "love of his life". Besides, starting a relationship like that, you're setting yourself up for jelousy, if he could leave his first wife for you, who says he couldn't do the same with your marriage? I think we all agree Henry can eat shit, but for me, Anne Boleyn is not innocent either.
He didn’t really love Catherine. She was married to his older brother. She was smart and knew how to lead. She was born royalty. She knew how to lead, she had been raised knowing she would lead one day as a queen. Anne was no royal, and she knew that Henry would need someone smarter.

Everybody agrees that he did love her, at least in the begining, the problem with Henry, imo, is that he was obsessed with the heir issue and didn't seem to understand that love is not just a feeling, but a commitment that requires to cope and help each other on the lowest moments, when love isn't the first thing you feel. That's why I think it didn't really worked out with anyone else (though Jane died too early to prove this), he dumped Catherine for the promises of a male heir and passion (due to a new romance) that Anne offered, and when these weren't met he moved on to another, and so with the rest, the one with who he shared the most and treated more like an equal was Catherine.
Both were powerful, beautiful and amazing women in their own right- without bringing Henry into the picture and whether one is team Katherine or team Anne, all agree that they shined brightly and left long-lasting legacies that fascinate all to this day

Looking through the comments, I noticed that many people said that Henry never loved Catherine. That's not true. Henry married Catherine from love. He had a relationship with Anna, as it were, from love, but also because he wanted a son.

I swear if one word could be used to describe Catherine and Anne's situation it would be irony. Because Anne thought she was so much better than Catherine when in truth they were a lot alike.
Both were previously involved with another man before marrying Henry (Catherine married his brother first while Anne was briefly engaged/or having an affair with Henry Percy), both were pushed to marry him by their fathers (Although Catherine's father did it more out of love and thought for his daughter's well being while Anne's was just a power hungry social climber) both suffered miscarriages and only delivered one healthy child which was born a daughter, and both were in the end discarded by their husband Henry albeit they were discarded in different ways.
The only really big difference between these two women in regards to their history with King Henry was how they went about rejection and infidelity.
Catherine no doubt was hurt by her husband's adulterous nature but she was smart enough to realize that in the time period she lived in, a woman should never scold or berate her husband especially if he was high in rank. She also did not make a big scene about it because she was a queen and a queen is always dignified, respectful, graceful. She serves her people and does not allow them to see if she is angry or hurt because as a monarch she is a symbol of strength and wisdom to her people which in turn earned their respect and devotion. Probably why Henry didn't cut off her head because she was so adored and respected by his people. This behavior applied even when Henry divorced her. Yes she voiced her contempt and hurt but she did so in a dignified manner. And even though her husband spurned her cruelly and unjustily, she would forever be loved and seen as a true queen even after death.
Anne on the other hand was more arrogant and prideful. She thought that she should have been seen as Henry's equal which unfortunately was a dangerous way of thinking back then. She wasn't really discreet about how she felt about Henry's philandering ways and didn't take it in a dignified way which probably made her come off as spoiled and whiny to her people. This was especially unwise considering that England pretty much hated her. She probably didn't understand her position as well as Catherine did because unlike her, Anne was not royal by birth therefore she was not trained and schooled in the ways of being a proper queen. In fact I think the only thing her family schooled her on was the benefits of being queen and not the burdens. So she lost her head but left behind a daughter who would prove to succeed where she failed.

There is evidence to say both were vehemently against it and only statements after Anne's death really otherwise which are famously unreliable in regards to Anne. The major difference as to why Henry did not cut off Katherine’s head is that she was royal of birth, from a very VERY powerful house that ruled Spain and the Holy Roman Empire, and also she was very much loved by the English people and by the nobility, also killing a royal would make his family and himself vulnerable, cuz people would notice that royals are not Devine after all.

I thought the same, but many characters in The Tudors are weirdly cast, imo, with Henry for a start, Jonathan's face shape is the complete opposite to Henry's squarish shape, they decided to put on a cartoonish chin on Charles of Spain while both Francis of France and Henry looked like Hollywood actors (I actually think Charles look better than Francis in their protraits)....

2. Henry never got divorced from Catherine rightfully anyway (he literally made up his own church so he could do whatever he wanted, how is that legit? Also it shouldn't count what a protestant head of religion says when the marriage took place under Catholicism) so the "true Queen" is much to be disputed. I'd say Anne was "a true Queen" the one or two months in between Catherine's death and her downfall when her title was revoked.
