Inside MANMADE TUNNELS In Davao's Filipino-Indonesian Town (Balut Island)

- THESE TUNNELS WERE MANMADE, MANY YEARS AGO...
The Municipality of Sarangani actually comprises three islands that are part of Davao Occidental - the most well known is Balut Island, but there's also Sarangani Island and Olanivan Island.
Each has their own character - and a very unique culture created by the fusion of Indonesian, Sangil, Blaan and Bisaya populations found here!
In Sitio Ubas of Barangay Patuco on Sarangani Island, a tunnel was blasted through the rock connecting it to a neighbouring community even at high tide. Previously disconnected for half of the day, this made life easier for many people...
Balut Island is volcanic, and the climb to the top is certainly exhilarating along an exciting rough road! Coming down, it rained, thankfully once we were down already! We also tried to cook eggs in the sulphur spring... very daot!
Astang La Mia, a resto opposite the hotel, cooked up excellent curacha for dinner - I love the cuisine here!
The next day, we visited Olanivan Island - an eye-shaped, white sand, paradise beach island!
From here we toured Sarangani Island, and its azure blue waters. What a beautiful part of the world this is!
Finally, a reminder of the past at Marorong Island - where Villalobos was believed to have stayed during his ill-fated 1544 expedition, the Spanish eventually captured the islands in 1884 - not long before their colonial period ended. The fort remains - though restored, it sits in the harbour, protecting the poblacion of Mabila!

Another gem from the KD, who else no other one makes me see the Philippines like him. The Philippines people must be proud of you for such motivation to show the world what a beautiful country this is with plenty of hidden treasures and natural beauty.
Good evening from Arizona! Fascinating vlog. I can't get enough in one viewing, have to watch it a few times. Truly a hidden paradise in this part of Davao province. The drone shots of the islands are just spectacular. The beaches are beautiful and the waters so pristine. So much history behind this small cluster of islands. The people are wonderful and the food looks delicious. Miss the curacha and kinilaw. Thanks again for this awesome vlog.
Always love your narration. Great video. Beautiful views. Wow, the beaches.
All the food looked good. Making me hungry.
Happy Weekend. Liked and Shared.
This is Epic KD ⭐️ thanks for all that you do 🙏💚 David Attenborough of the Philippines 🥇🌏💖🇦🇺
Great reminder of the migrations of our Austronesian ancestors. We are all one!
I'll stop watching your videos because they always make me teary eyed. Kidding aside, this is another genuine documentary-esque vlogging showcasing such a hidden gem as the Sarangani Island of Davao Occidental. I am a davaoeño and I spent most of my childhood in neighbouring Barrio Bato, Sta. Cruz in Davao del Sur but I have never been to this incredibly beautiful place. It's very interesting to know there is a harmonious co-existence amongst different local and foreign tribes/ people here who proudly call themselves davaoeños. Kudos once more to you Anselm and I can't thank you enough for making my day today.
Beautiful, stunning Sarangani KD, your vlog is getting more impressive and I have to tell
You that you found your calling, you’re great at it, Carry on and thank you KD😂😂😂😂😂

The Philippines is blessed with 7,641 beautiful Islands is just amazing. Thank you very much KD for exploring the less travelled islands. Mabuhay !
Yes, there wasn't a border before. The Sangil, the Sama, and the Tausug were the most affected when literally their homelands were divided into three borders between the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia by colonizers.
Yes - these were fluid boundaries before! So interesting to see how the cultures merge!

You just keep finding the most interesting little islands to explore. Always the kindest people, too.
That demon fish was really fascinating with its horns. I wonder, if you eat it, will it make a devil out of you?
It's called "cowfish" in English, and no it's not edible. It belongs to the puffer fish family and is poisonous.
The islands are so beautiful!

Probably - most of the Indonesians are either Marore or Sangil here, but most others are from Sulawesi/Ternate.
