    I bought this mixer to run my dj/karaoke show. It does a fantastic job as a basic mixer, and a great job mixing vocals and fx in with a good quality karaoke track. However, the game changer feature of this board is the ability to multi-track record. People have been blown away when I hand them a mixed version of their karaoke performance, (mixed on my imac in my studio from the live tracks the Flow 8 produced). My friends who do solo and duo acoustic shows have seen my mixer. I showed them how this mixer is really perfect for that use. The ALL went out and bought one of their own. Thanks for your video. I am going to explore the fx to monitor functionality, although I rarely use fx in the monitors. Also, thanks for mentioning the standby function. I was not aware of that feature, it's nice to know about it in case I need it. Great vid..!

      I wanted to get this for some family karaoke nights do you recommend a system that doesn't have a screen/speaker already built in?

    • @frontprochproduction
      @frontprochproduction Před 2 lety

      @@damonluvisi if you understand how to use a live sound mixer like this one, it works very well for mixing a vocal microphone with karaoke music. If you are new to doing this you might be better off with a system that is custom made for doing karaoke. A system that "has it all" will be easier to use, it just might not sound as good. My suggestion is to read the reviews on the other systems you are looking at and see how the people who bought it like it. I have decades of experience playing in bands, running live sound, and recording and mixing in my studio, so I kind of know my way around this kind of gear. So, when I wanted to add karaoke to my DJ music services it was easy for me to just use this kind of board to do it. This board is very easy to learn how to use and it does a fantastic job, but you might be better off with a simpler karaoke setup for your family nights. I hope that helps you out.

      Thank you for mentioning this. I run an audio interface into my iPad with Cubasis for most of my current recording (which ends up on CZcams). If I could swap out the Flow 8 for my audio interface this would have the huge advantage of being an identical setup (the iPad would then run the app rather than Cubasis). I'm getting a Flow 8 to check this exact functionalit very soon now.

    First of all, thanks for all the videos on the mixer! You've been very helpful when it comes to shopping for one of these. One important question: Have you seen a vast difference in sound quality between inputs 1 and 2 with the MIDAS preamps and inputs 3 and 4 that supposedly do not have the MIDAS preamps? Maybe a topic for a future video? Thanks in advance!

    • @DcSoundOp
      @DcSoundOp  Před 2 lety +2

      There is certainly a difference between the first two inputs and inputs 3/4. That being said, I wouldn't put too much stock in the first two having anything to do with 'Midas preamps' as they literally slap that sticker on everything these days. Actual Midas preamps still cost around $200 per channel and the preamps in this mixer are much more similar to each other than either of them are to the preamps you'll find in an XL or Heritage console from their heyday.

    Uch I think I'm going to have to hold my nose and buy one of these for an install. There's just nothing else I can find with the same features in the same footprint at the same price. Goddamn you, Behringer.

    • @DcSoundOp
      @DcSoundOp  Před 2 lety

      What are the features you're looking for? Based on your implications, I take it you're not a dealer for Music Tribe 😂
      I would hesitate to buy one of these and pass it on to an install client when they won't be able to register it for warranty. You certainly won't find the same functionality at this price in install gear, but install gear is expensive for a number of really legitimate reasons when it comes to supporting the tech years down the road.

    • @Hermiel
      @Hermiel Před 2 lety

      @@DcSoundOp Ha, no not a dealer or an installer of any kind. Just your average Behringer-bashing enginerd who got roped into specifying a system for a synagogue install. We need one or two mic inputs, main and auxiliary output mixes (PA and stream), remote control, basic DSP on the inputs and outputs, and as few physical controls to screw up as possible.
      Their main sanctuary system cost them in the high five figures, so they're going a different route on this much smaller system in a much smaller room. Their hopeful budget is CAD$3500, including a mic, mixer/dsp, speakers, amplification, interconnects and hardware.
      I'll also be specifying a second option with some install-grade zone DSPs but frankly those are less appealing, and not just because they're two-to-four times the price. They also require rack space and running more wires in walls and permanently installing zone controllers. Also, installation gear is generations behind on connectivity and the DSP control software tends to have strong Windows 95 vibes (although I do very much like Phoenix terminals).
      Stashing a Flow8 in a cubby at the back of the chappel and controlling it with bluetooth is far more appealing, even if it means buying a new one in a couple of years when it inevitably fails, because, you know; Behringer.
      Truth be told, taking this gig has taught me just how little I know about the installation market. I don't even know where to buy column-style array loudspeakers or which amps to pair them with. I'm a complete newb again.

    • @DcSoundOp
      @DcSoundOp  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for the question! The best way to eliminate feedback is to avoid creating it. If you know the issue, can you avoid getting close to the speaker? Of course before any performance, it is a good idea to 'ring out' the system if you're experiencing feedback. That entails carefully running up each mic to where it just starts to feedback, and then use the EQ to carefully notch out that frequency. You can use an RTA app on your phone to identify the frequency while you train your ears to recognize the frequencies in the future. The more you do this, the easier it gets... but positioning the speakers so they are not pointed into the microphones is still the best defense.

    • @DcSoundOp
      @DcSoundOp  Před 2 lety +1

      You'd probably need a slightly more flexible mixer to stream and multitrack at the same time easily. The workaround I can think of (assuming you're not already maxing out the ins and outs) would be to use multitrack mode, then patch Mon 1 output in to a spare channel... that would get Mon 1 mix into the computer via that channel's send to the computer so you can route it to the stream in OBS.

When I do this I only get audio out of the the left side (5). Wondering if I’m missing something in the app. I’ve tried multiple versions of the stereo split cable. • @TheBeatlesGuiseDuo
      @TheBeatlesGuiseDuo Před rokem

      That's exactly what I'd want to do. It's the common and very basic way to get backing tracks, intermission music or jam tracks (semantics) into the mixer, any mixer, from a iPad, MP3 player or computer (or any device with a stereo 1/8 in headphone jack). If you can't get both channels 5 and 6 (so that would probably mean the same would apply for channels 7 and 8) to supply signal to BOTH channels it's a deal killer. BUT are you getting your entire mix (L&R) into that channel 5 but as a mono mix? And, is that channel able to be panned hard left or right? Many performers pan music to one side and click to the other side and send the music panned side out to the main mixer of FOH. Did you try using several different devices as well? Did you figure this out?

    Greetings, is there a high pass filter on the effects processors? When using effects live especially cathedral or hall, the low end has to be cut off of that reverb signal or the low end on the reverb will cause phase cancellation and sound boomy as well.

    Love this little mixer! I do seem to have a glitch that I can not find any information on. I didn't know if you could somehow help or point me to someone that can.
    When viewing the 4 band EQ on the combo channels,3 &4, show the four bands read 0Hz rather than 100Hz, 500Hz, 2000Hz, & 12000Hz like the rest of the channels. The text is also blue, which normally is white. I don't know if that means something or not. When moving each 0Hz band slider, they don't respond as change as they should.
    I have the latest app software and mixer firmware. I have re-updated them both in case there were any glitches.

      Hi Subhash, what basic function are you asking about? This mixer was not designed for Karaoke specifically, or for connecting to home entertainment systems. At very least, I'd imagine you'll need to go into the preferences and use the output PADs to reduce the signal from pro-line level to consumer line level. That may help, but without knowing what you are trying to connect to, I'd be guessing to say more.

    Very good Videos Thank you ! May be you can help me. I am using my Flow 8 on Stage with 2 Aktive Speakers MAIN OUT. At the same time I have a Split cable coming from Phones Output into 2 Stereo OUT. One Stereo Out I use as a kind of Monitor. The other stereo out goes to my Taskam for Recording my Live Performance. The Problem is that the Signal is far too loud and I get distortion, even if I turn the input Volume to ZERO. I could turn the Volume of the Headphone down. - But then the signal is to weak for my Monitoring.
    Is there a way to copy the main Signal to the Monitor Outputs and record from there with a decent LEVEL . I am using this kind of monitoring because i can control the loudnes imediately wth on physical knob. And its a kind of mirror what is going to the main outputs. Do you have an Idea for what could be best for me. Thank you

    • @DcSoundOp
      @DcSoundOp  Před 11 měsíci

      Hi, thanks for the message. For making a copy of the main mix for monitoring, you can simply set the monitor send to (post fader) and then bring each channel fader on that send up to unity - this will give you a mix that follows whatever happens on the main mix - if you bring a channel up or down on the main mix, it will reflect the same change in the monitor send. Often we use Pre-Fade sends for monitors so you can build a mix that includes only what you need, but if the house mix works for you, that's fine to do it post-fade.
      You could use another post-fade send to record a similar copy of the main mix, tweaking things as needed for the recording by moving the faders for that send up or down a little bit from the unity position. i.e. if the guitar is screaming loud in the room, you might need more in the recording than you are putting through the main speakers.
      Let me know if I've misunderstood what you're asking though.

      Just adding per-channel effects would be so useful. At the moment, you can‘t really use any of the specialised effects unless you are just playing one instrument into it. Which kinda makes me ask why it has so many inputs. If you had a small band plugged into this - vocals, guitar and keyboard - you‘d have to pick two effects (FX1 and FX2) that worked with all your instruments, which of course is only basically reverb and then maybe chorus for the guitar and the keys and vocals don‘t use it (gain set to 0 dB). It‘s better than nothing but a bit frustrating. Probably technically way more expensive than I am imagining!

      @DcSoundOp  Před 2 lety

      The point of record mode is that most people do not want to record effects and compression and all of that into their DAW. Most folks want to record a dry signal from the interface, and use the DAW to process the sound & add efx later. If you instead are going live to a stream or have another reason you'd want to do the processing in the mixer, that is where streaming mode comes in. You could do it either way in OBS, since it allows you to add processing to the audio channels too. That eats up more computing power though, and isn't as convenient as having something dedicated like the Flow. Ultimately it is up to you how you want to work, but that's what the modes do.

Question is: what would you need to pay for something that does that? As a singer/songwriter I find the two fx busses incredibly limiting and also a bit pointless: you can‘t even use the first effect, Ambience, because you‘d have to choose Vocal or Instrument for that effect, as you only get it in FX1. And if I want to use, say, Guitar Reverb, that means I have only one more effect for everyone else and that effect cannot be a reverb. So my guitar has a reverb on FX1 and my vocals have … nothing! It’s a weird choice to have the effects busses hard-wired like this. Just one set of effects and two busses with any of those effects would have made more sense, surely?

      Yeah, your original assumption was right.... you're looking for a mixer with WAY more flexibility than this price point is going to offer. They way they've configured this is extremely common in smaller mixers for live sound. There is also no reason to think using a verb they've labeled instrument or vocal will be *wrong* if used on the opposite source. There is no reason you should be able to share a verb between vocals and guitar for a singer songwriter gig on a small mixer... unless you are trying to achieve specific guitar effects, in that case a verb pedal for the guitar would be the simple and cheaper choice than a bigger more capable mixer.

      Absolutely, though a dedicated dj mixer might be easier depending on your style.

      Hey Sara, absolutely. In the app you can toggle 48v on and off for channels 1&2. If this isn't what you were asking, let me know!

    An option for the monitor sends to follow main LR level would be super awesome, could you pass it on to behringer?

    • @DcSoundOp
      @DcSoundOp  Před 2 lety

      On the latest FW versions, you can put the mon sends into post fade mode, set them to unity and those outputs will track post fader of the channels fader position on the main layer - creating what you’re looking to do 👍🏼 thx for the message!

      @@DcSoundOp That's close to what i'm after, but i want the monitor 1 master level to follow the main LR level. So if I turn down the Master, the monitor 1 master follows. I'm trying to aux feed subs and want the master to control the monitor 1 output. On the X/M32 series, this is achieved by setting Mono/Center follows Main LR

    You are missing the point of the question of sending fx to mon in PRE-state. I cannot get it work either. In your video you have main-section ch2 fader up in time 0:45. Then you are routing the fx to mon and everything seems to work fine, but if you are bringing down the fader of ch2 in MAIN-section, you don't have fx anymore in mon. And if bringing down the mon fader, the fx stays. This is acting like POST-state (depends of main), not PRE-state (independent).

    • @DcSoundOp
      @DcSoundOp  Před rokem

      The eFx sends are only post fade, so yes of course it would go away if you turn down ch-2 on the main page. There’s no way to cheat that here.

    inputs 3 and 4 are infuriating. There is a -20db pad on the jack input on the combi jack and the xlr input distorts and clips so easily. With a line level signal coming into the jack in the combi input, you have to boost it by 20db, and then it's very noisy . useless.
