- The famous Black Dyke Band performing Peter Graham's Torchbearer at the 2015 Yorkshire Regionals at St Georges Hall.
The band was originally placed 4th, but later unfortunately disqualified from the contest according with rule 9a. "All players taking part in the Contest must be registered with only ONE accredited Registry at least 7 days before the Friday of the contest weekend and may only compete with the band that holds their Registration" - Hudba

one of the best pieces
A fine tribute to the great Eric Ball and very well played. Many thanks
This has to be the best way that Torchbearer has been played
That is an old piece but good. Love Janet x
fantastic band as usual
This piece employs the different sections so well and unifies them beautifully as well. The piece is very melodic and not as rhythnic, which I appreciate. It keeps my attention with new musical ideas and building to climaxes.
Ben Richeton must be one of the top Sop players in the WORLD just now!
He really is something. And still so young.
Very very good. However, for how to do the endings, check Grimethorpe's end of Performance here on YT. Kevin is still THE man...
+BuzZoo and still improving
Getting there for sure,..but just not yet the finished article. In time he will be a leading light of Soprano Cornet.
Wonderful piece :) thanks for sharing
Thought he was gonna bring the bus driver on to shake his/her hand too....
Trombones where Awsome
Anyone who's a musician will appreciate and love the chords from 14:01 - 14:19
Is this piece a take-off from Eric Ball's march "Torchbearers"?
+k0smon Yes. It's 'symphonic variations on a theme by Eric Ball'.
The original "Torchbearers" march was written for the "Torchbearer" Session of Cadets on being commissioned as Salvation Army officers(Ministers) in the 1940's. It is an excellent march (as expected from Eric Ball, at that time a serving SA Officer). There is also a vocal edition published for Salvation Army Choirs.
Am I missing something here?
why am I listening to Sinfonietta The Wayfarer?
+John dman Perhaps your hearing is shot?
Watching the percussion - some of their preparation seems almost superstitious... Pretty sure the cymbals won't still be warm 5 seconds after hitting them on your legs
Should have been the winning performance by a long way !!!!!!!!!
Ian Perks There are a few obvious minor mistakes but the overall performance is excellent. Though I didn't get to hear all the others ;-)
They got disqualified so it’s irrelevant how good the performance was
Wasn’t without errors which were mainly in the Bass section
Good playing; terrible, derivative pastiche piece that does no justice to either Eric Ball and his mastery of brass band scoring and compositions, or Peter Graham`s own tremendous back catalogue. The days of Montage, and Essence Of Time seem a long way back.
