    Great solo play at 7:03 . Sounds fantastic!
    Thank you for the introduction to the instrument. I ordered the same model today. I like the idea of having a mini clarinet in your bag when you go to the studio or a jam session.

    It’s amazing how much that thing sounds like a Clarinet! Thanks! Happy New Year! 🥂🥂🥂🥂🙂😎

    There are some very pleasant sounds to be made from this, and most of all you seem to be having a lot of fun with it :)
    Maybe a nice side "toy" for clarinetists. Very cool demonstration, thanks!

    Impressive! It's smaller than the soprano recorder but plays one octave lower, and has a range of two and a bit octaves! The tone is pretty nice too.

      Arwen said 1 octave and 1 tone, hence a ninth only. And with her real clarinet mouthpiece, not the supplied one…

      @arwenacoustic795  Před 8 měsíci +3

      Yes, an octave lower, thanks to stopped pipe mechanics but only just over 1 octave range, those high notes were just squeaks!

    Very interesting, thanks for sharing your impressions. :) The chalumeau is such a beautiful instrument. ♥ I never tried the one from Thomann, but one from Tupian. (As it was the first time I tried to play a reed instrument, at first I failed very badly. But now I love this wonderful instrument.) ... Love the playing at 4:10 😍 Keep up the great work, musical greetings from northern Germany! ♥ Meike

      Thank you :) The tune at 4.10 is called "Ye Banks and Braes" and is a Scottish folksong. Happy New Year from the UK.

    I have this Chalumeau and its really fun to play but like you say the small range makes me want another one that actually has the second register.

    a great idea! And it is so interesting to listen to you. But playing with vibrato? (The same old question …) Anyway, thank you so much for introducing the more jazzier side of a chalumeau. Completely new to me, but awesome!

    Oh cool, i have to try one, even as wonky as it is in some ways it can also sound pretty nice. What fun! Thanks for the demo!

  • @wdashwor

    Interesting! Thanks for the demo. Despite the limitations, it has quite a nice tone. 🙂 Does it require more or about the same breath pressure as a regular clarinet?

    II've bought one ten years ago, it has a very sound, but the original reed wasn't that good. I wanted to do an aperture near the mouthpiece (like the Yamaha Venova) to make it able to play the second octave, but since I gave it, I kind of left it. But it could be interesting.

      I tried one. However, I myself liked the "clarineau" more. The version I have has the same pitch as your model, but also has extra valves to get one note lower and three notes higher. You even get higher notes in a higher register, but I don't like timbre of those notes. The notes of the first B to e are beautiful.

  • @pseudotonal
    @pseudotonal Před 8 měsíci +1

    The low D a bit sharp. The F# is even more sharp!

  • @xarv368
    @xarv368 Před 8 měsíci +1

    Have you tried to get the second octave by blowing the notes of the first octave harder?

    • @arwenacoustic795
      @arwenacoustic795  Před 8 měsíci +2

      No I haven't tried that, it doesn't work on any other woodwind instrument, even the transverse flute, blowing harder is the wrong technique, you need breath support and a movement of embouchure. As you can hear from the note bends- no amount of embouchure adjustment is going to create a 2nd register. Worth considering though. This is how we innovate!

    • @ViewtifulSam
      @ViewtifulSam Před 7 dny

      I think the cylindrical bore would kill the even harmonics like on the clarinet, no? Meaning an octave (second harmonic) overblow should be inaccessible. But I could be wrong, of course.

  • @Bliksembrak

    Do you het oboe mouthpieces too?

    • @arwenacoustic795
      @arwenacoustic795  Před 8 měsíci

      No, it is based on a historical instrument, a forerunner of the clarinet. Forerunner of oboe is called a shawm :)

      Impressive for the price point sort of sums it up. I did use a good mouthpiece and reed though, not the ones that came with the instrument. I must try out the mouthpiece it came with soon.

    Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand.
    By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
    For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
    that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
    ~1. Corinthians 15:1-4
    Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
    ~2. Peter 1:1
    God bless you!
