Just heard the sad news today 4/10/2024 RIP TOO AKEBONO LEGEND RIP MAN PLAYED THIS SONG AS SOON AS I SAW THA 6 O'CLOCK NEWS 😔 MY CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY 🙏🏾🩵💯
I was recently at the Sumo Finals in Tokyo. I bought a handmade shirt before the match. I had to leave early because I was doing stand-up in Shibuya. While I was leaving, a man tells me, "Hey, that's me on your shirt! Lemme sign it!" I walked up shook his hand, and asked if he was Hawaiian and played ukulele. He says, "Look me up. Konishiki." As I looked him up, he smiled and said, there's Michael Jordan, there's LeBron, and then there's me. He signed my shirt, we grabbed a picture, spoke about Hawaii and ukulele, and then parted ways. When I told people I met a man named Konishiki, they were blown away. I was told about this legend and was introduced to this song. I'm glad I left early that day because I got to meet a Sumo hero.
Ahh, the vocals that were sampled in Soichi Terada's tracks on Sumo Jungle Grandeur. Such a beautiful voice, and a real harmonic track. National heroes, Famous idols, in Japan.
3 Giants, from a tiny island in the middle of the ocean, traveled far to reach the rank of Gods… We are very proud of what they’ve accomplished in the sumo world, may their names reign throughout all of time🙏🏽
You were privileged and I have known some HI royalty and wonder if he was too. They are very special and and an amazing cultural and very respectful of females too and that is one of the things I really appreciate about them.
I fell asleep listening to some random hit song and woke up to this. I can't believe I haven't discovered this guy sooner! He is pure gold, gives such peace to mind and soul.
i remember listening to this on channel 12 on Zapit, Those nights i couldn't sleep, i would hear this song, Calm and soothing. Bruddah Iz, The best singer i've heard my whole life.
Because there are many Japanese on the Island or at least there used to be and like AK they have tried to take over the Islands economy at one time. I had a friend who was half Japanese and from there and she taught me a lot of things
Just listened to this after listening to Soichi Terada's Sumo Jungle Grandeur and man... What an great album that was and what an amazing song this was to sample from

I've been listening to Sumo Jungle since I was young and now I find this!
I knew this man personally years ago......His heart for people was as big as HIM!
i believe you. its so sad that he died :(
You were privileged and I have known some HI royalty and wonder if he was too. They are very special and and an amazing cultural and very respectful of females too and that is one of the things I really appreciate about them.
wow....what a privilege to have known him
I remember going to his funeral as a very little keiki. I was a bit scared at the time, but now I know how important it was. ❤
lucky!
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
The is the source sampled for Soichi Terada's Sumo Jungle. He's the composer of Ape Escape and Ape Escape 3.
His moment was short, but his memory is forever. Rare treat to stumble upon...👏👍
I fell asleep listening to some random hit song and woke up to this. I can't believe I haven't discovered this guy sooner! He is pure gold, gives such peace to mind and soul.
Me too!
I remember my tutu used to listen to this song a lot when she took me to school. Missing her so much right now, thank god I found this. Mahalo~
Man, what a life these 3 legends have led. It's too bad Akebono would have to compete in circus fights after his retirement :(
The spirit that is IZ will always live on. He lives in the hearts of all of us who love him.
His singing always make my heart glad and I hope to meet him one day in another life
Just fucking amazing!!! IZ could say anything in any language and it would sound beautiful!!
i remember listening to this on channel 12 on Zapit, Those nights i couldn't sleep, i would hear this song, Calm and soothing. Bruddah Iz, The best singer i've heard my whole life.
I love sumo so much, this song is so wholesome.
Rest easy Hawaiian
RIP Akebono.
Absolutely beautiful...I keep coming back to listen his songs. It's so soothing. I wish that this world even had a percent of his soul.
Sample hunting is fun because you find out where pieces of a song comes from and sometimes you can find something that's good even on its own.
I haven't heard this song since I was a little kid in Hawai'i.
Loving and caring man was he. His music is beautiful, loving and peaceful to listen to.
Akebono Mushashimaru and Konoshiki are from Hawaii and are former sumo wrestlers. That's why he's singing about them.
Alika Kea Why? Sumo is not the national sport of Hawaii. Having a good time is.
No shit it's not. But they are both representatives of Hawaii in the sport. So why not make a song about them?
Why are you questioning a song by our Hawaiian super man? Just listen to the song and enjoy it.
I just recognized the Japanese language. I just ask why is this Hawaiian superman singing in Japanese?
Because there are many Japanese on the Island or at least there used to be and like AK they have tried to take over the Islands economy at one time. I had a friend who was half Japanese and from there and she taught me a lot of things
Wow really like the melody. Can really chill to this one xx
Sumo legends for sure. IZ in another life probably would’ve been a great sumo wrestler..
