  • The HTC One M9 is the smartphone that nearly killed HTC.
    Okay … maybe that’s a little hyperbolic, but not by much. After the revolutionary design shift of the original HTC One and its excellent sequel the One M8, people were expecting a lot out of the One M9 … and instead HTC delivered an iterative sequel with an almost identical design for the same lofty price - just as its rival Samsung launched the most appealing Galaxy S in years. The result was a sales slump that lasted until the release of the radically different One A9 this fall. But with the One M9 still on store shelves (and still at its original price!) as we go into the holiday season nine months after its release, is it still a solid buy? Join Michael Fisher with Pocketnow to find out in episode 50 of After The Buzz.

    I have had my m9 for years now. It's taken drops like a champ, still runs fast for it's age, and still has the same battery life since day one. It is small, and you have to clean the speakers out from time to time, but it's a great phone. I love my M9 and even though it's not my primary phone anymore, it'll stay my backup if I need it as I know it'll probably always work

  • @dylanheyl

    I have been using the m9 since launch, and as a long time nexus user and mobile sales employee I was pleasantly surprised with the performance of the m9. I will never again buy a phone that does not have dual front firing speakers. Boomsound is simply amazing, and a extremely underrated feature. After using stock adroid for 4 years HTC sense was a very nice change. I would recommend the phone to anyone, unless they REALLY want a GREAT camera. We put so much emphasis on camera even though 90% of us do not use it for anything more than Instagram and Snapchat. It is like telling someone "you need to get a Macbook pro for all the Facebook, CZcams and Google searches you do."

  • @ForTrav516
    @ForTrav516 Před 8 lety +9

    As an m9 owner, it's nice to see compliments for the phone. During it's initial launch, everyone was repeatedly bashing the phone. I bought the m9 coming from the m8, which I loved. After experiencing the m8 (and having friends experience the LG G3 and GS5) I wanted nothing more than an m9. I stand by my choice of purchasing the m9, however I may upgrade to a nexus 6p soon. Maybe even the A9, as I am in love with Sense.

      +Travis Rowland If you can live with the Snapdragon 617 which is good for multitasking but not as great as the Snapdragon 410 for gaming, yeah the Sense from Creative Labs in Seattle who actually wrote it is nice. I forget, isn't the M9 the phone you could add a theme for every home screen? I remember a video a few months ago where you could make every home screen have it's own theme, not sure if it was the M9 or another model.

    • @ForTrav516
      @ForTrav516 Před 8 lety

      TekReview's I haven't found anything on themes for every home screen. The 810 is a nice processor, and I'm actually a bit afraid of jumping to the 617. I'll probably have to try each phone (A9 and 6P) in house before I make any final decisions.

    • @cuddles6938
      @cuddles6938 Před 8 lety

      Travis Rowland If you can wait they are coming out with the A9X model in February which will probably have the newest Snapdragon 820 Processor which is supposed to score as good as the newest Exynos chip that Samsung is using for the S7.

      Rat Face For most people sure, but, personally, having Sense over Touchwiz really makes the M9 better for me along with the speakers that thoroughly trump those of the S6. And, while the S6's camera is great, M9's camera is still serviceable me and probably most (and if I was looking for the best camera, I'd get the V10).

    I LOVE MY M9 DUDE
    this m9 has been my baby since may this year. I love it. its dropped on cement floor, it fell off my desk several times, but still perfect (some scratches tho). the camera isn't that bad I actually really like it and some of my relatives are blown away by the quality at times (obv bc they're not comparing it to other phones). the display is bright and sharp, the speakers are just awesome, the build is the main reason I love it so much, I have uhoh protection so no need to pay for insurance, SD card expansion, never overheats anymore. it was definitely worth it. looking back when I was about to get the s6 edge, I'm proud of myself. I just couldn't handle touch whiz. Looking forward to the m10

    had the one m9 for like a couple weeks. bought it off eBay for like 250 was intact with no dents(other than scratches by the USB port, but that's a given) and I loved it. At the time before I went to the s6 and then the v10 I had the g4 and sure there were differences in camera quality, but that's not what made me enjoy the phone. I enjoyed it for the performance, and as cliche as it sounds now the boomsound speakers, and I enjoyed it thoroughly before giving it to my friend because he needed a phone. if I wasn't getting everyone else Christmas presents and planning to fix up and put a hold back plate on my g2 I would get another one, let's hope HTC does wonders with the m10.

    Watching this on my M9. It's a shame really, because I truly do love this phone. The design, even after having it for almost 7 months, still raises a lot of eyebrows among students at my school, and shows no signs of wear. The speakers are fantastic, Sense is a joy to use thanks mostly to Blinkfeed, and the camera really isn't nearly as bad as it's hyped up to be in my opinion, especially if you're shooting in RAW (oh yeah, you can shoot in RAW). It's a great, if slightly underwhelming, phone. What's great about this though is that HTC has (hopefully) learned from the M9, and the M10, or whatever their next flagship is, will probably be awesome.

    I have had the htc one M9 since the day it came out. I pre ordered the phone. I came from a galaxy S4 before and this was a definite step up and has been good and stable but the camera needs help especially in low light. The battery could be better but it's mainly the standby time that kills it and marshmallow will come to the rescue with that issue but I am ready to switch and find something else that will be just as stable with an even better camera.
    One issue that I have with mine is that the WiFi always has a mode set to switch to mobile data if WiFi is unstable and no matter how many times I disable it the setting always comes back on. And my speakers don't seem so great I think mine are defective because a friend has the latest motorola moto x and it is not only louder but sounds better. Overall I don't regret the purchase I had so many issues with my s4 back in the day. The M9 has been dead reliable since day 1.

    Sense 7 alone is more than enough to make any one buy this smart phone, no other android skin can compete with it. as an owner of the M9 for about 7 months, I would recommend it for any one who wants the perfect smartphone, If they don't care that much about the camera, it is the only weakness the M9 has, not bad, but not good enough to rival the competition.
    Still performs as good as day one, the heat issue has improved a lot with the updates, so far no lags or slowness.

    I got given the m9 for work and while it's a pretty good device the lack of quick charge and fingerprint access is a major downside. I need to carry around a powerbank just to make sure I can get through the day. One positive though, HTC regularly push out security updates for the device. Hopefully, the Marshmallow update will address the battery issues.

    I really hope HTC will sort out its shortcomings with the M9's successor. I'd love to try their devices sometime, but there just always were a few problems to many with their devices so far (which is only my subjective opinion, of course).

    It's sad when OEMs feel so secure, that they don't even try to take the least bit of risk. HTC delivered one of the best phones of 2014 with the M8 and decided not to change much for the M9.
    I appreciate it, when OEMs try to break the mold and do something original.

    Even though it did look almost exactly like the M8, there was something about the gold on silver (or is it silver on gold?) M9 that was freaking beautiful compared to the other ones. I almost leaped and upgraded because of that specific color, but ultimately decided to hold out another year for the M10 since ancient my M7 is still getting the job done. Hoping HTC blows my mind in 2016.

    I had an HTC one M8, and I was so excited because at the time, it was absolutely the best phone when it came out, when it's competition was Touchwiz on the lackluster Galaxy S5. My favorite part about the phone was the "HTC software update 90 day guarantee"... Which was pretty much flushed down the toilet as soon as the one M9 came out. And that was the downfall of my HTC as the phone started deteriorating from there; increasingly worse battery life, insane amounts of lag even after rebooting device, and then the speakers just fizzled out. And the camera... Cool at first, and then just disappointing. The software was also inconsistent, with Sense 7 being the new eye catching feature, until they delayed it and I was still waiting for the update. So for my birthday last month, I made the switch to iPhone 6s, and I gotta say I love it. And this is coming from an android user for years now, the software experience is very polished, the camera is amazing, and force touch is awesome!

    I'm still using my One M8 and am happy. I don't think the M9 is terrible but I understand where HTC could've done better. I'm really looking forward to the M10 and if anyone from HTC is listening, please consider how much you can get consumers interested in lowering the price of some devices and not just for temporary deals. The A9 could've really shaken things up I feel if it were aggressively priced to compete with others. Just my opinion.

    Had M7 for two years (only phone I've ever had for two years) and then got a OnePlus waiting for this disappointment. It wasn't bad, but wasn't worth $600. I hated my OnePlus One with it's buggy software, so I just got my red A9 two days ago. Solid phone, and don't even notice the mid-range cpu. I didn't charge it overnight, and it's now 24 hours later sitting at 53%. HTC nailed it with the A9, believe it or not...

It has great speakers, it can drive more headphones loudly than other phones, it's UI is better than Samsungs, and most pictures taken nowadays are just uploaded to instagram or twitter. well I have been using M9 since september, and I can say that we had ups and downs but at the end of the day, I am happy to own this phone, it is HTC unique, the user interface is one of the best if not the best, although admittedly I downloaded google now launcher cause I just couldn't stand square folders of sense, it gets warm when I play games for a couple of hours but it cools down very quickly, camera is very satisfactory in my opinion, I generally take shots at bright daylight and the results are amazing, front facing camera is really nice, rarely stutters, but overall I can recommend this phone to anyone, if you can find around 500 dollars or less, so yeah that's one short review from me

    the m10 needs ultra specs.
    1. 25 ultra pixel camera with Nikon DSLR sensors. 5 ultra pixel for the front with front flash.
    2. ultra boom sound with slide out speaker that doesn't bulkify the phone but gives insane sound and much louder.
    4. latest Snapdragon 8 core
    5. 4K oled screen all around
    6. 4000mah or more battery to compensate the 4K
    7. sense 8 with more features.
    8 edge to edge screen
    9 and ultra microphone to get best recordings.

    I think it's funny how we all turned on HTC. We say we liked the M7, so the M8 was very similar. A lot of people, myself included, loved the M8. Even a lot of reviewers, MBKHD for example, said the M8 was one of the top phones of the year. The camera sucks.. but the rest was great! When the M9 comes out we all trash on it and say they didn't change anything. Yeah but you loved that design a year ago. If they had radicallly changed things we would then complain it was too difficult.
    I'm not saying the M9 is a great phone or anything. I just think we were too harsh on it. I was a longtime HTC user with the Incredible 2, Droid DNA, and then M8, but I just had to jump ship from the company and go with the Moto X Pure.

The One M7 was the first with this design and then the One M8 got the metal design and the lines that separates from other phones. hey Michael,
    have you heard anything about the M9s? apparently it's a Mediatech version of the M9 and it has a 13mp camera with OIS. there's little to no coverage about the device and it'd be cool to see a performance comparison. it's significantly cheaper than the original M9 too.
