It's one of my favorite movie opening, and the song Deliver Us is truly EPIC!
Prince of Egypt and The Hunchback of Notre Dame are my favorite intros of animation. The callback to the intro songs at the end is the most fitting transition to close each story.

No, Up packs a lot more into the opening. The Lion King's opening may be iconic, but has to come second to something that tells an entire story in a few minutes. Plus, of the two songs, I'd rather get the one from Up stuck in my head than the other. And yeah, they're currently fighting for dominance as we speak...

I'd put How to Train Your Dragon on there. It sets everything up, the characters, the world they live in and how Hiccup is different to the others. All in a big exciting action scene!

The Carnotaurus attack/ Egg Travels opening form Dinosaur, should have made this list, at least as an honorable mention

@@noirangel6416 Yup, good ol' childhood indeed. Never got nightmares myself, but I found it one of the best openings from any movie I'd seen at the time. The fact it wasn't on this, made me think I'm the only one who thought so, although with the 16 likes my comment has right now, makes me doubt it
Dinosaur had an amazing intro. Not sure if it qualifies though, since it wasn't fully animated. Those live-action backgrounds filmed in the Venezuelan wilderness were a big part of that scene's visual appeal.
Lion king being #2 was sad, like the lion king opening is LEGENDARY 👑

How is it above Nightmare Before Christmas? Prince of Egypt I can understand but why above Nightmare Before Christmas? It's good but c'mon if you're looking for an iconic opening look no further than the beginning of Nightmare Before Christmas

I love the opening to The Thief and the Cobbler where the “camera” starts in space, moves into a crystal ball, through the desert and finally gives a bird’s eye view of the main kingdom therefore introducing us to this world. Not to mention the score. I think it’s all very epic.
I haven't watched Kubo and the Two Strings, but the list is really solid. I agree that all of these have amazing opening scenes, and I love all of these films. Why do you have to make me cry, though?!

The opening to Coraline - I'd never seen anything as frightening as those hands ripping into the doll and stitching it together again while that eerily gentle choral music plays behind it.

The commentary for the film is great too. So much you learn about the film. The way her hands are when she lets him go shows the pain she is feeling. Wanting him back.

Out of memory, sorry but "The Bells of Notre Dame" is #1 for me. I'd also probably put "New York City" from Oliver and Company either in the Top 10 or as an honorable mention, too. SOOOO much feels for that poor little kitty in just the first few minutes, and that song completes it!

The Toy story 3 intro was the best intro of the toy story movies. It reintroduced us to the toys after 11 yrs between movies and showed the imagination of Andy.

WALL-E deserves so much better! The animation is incredible, the imagery and statements about society are so impactful, the plot of the movie and background information was given without narration and almost no dialogue!! the cutest character ever was introduced and even a cockroach was made likable! and the music was amazing and haunting which helps emphasize how catastrophic pollution is

The beginning of UP will always bring tears to my eyes. My former boss brought it in so my 4yr old class could watch it. The kids were excited to watch a movie. My Co-Teacher and I were trying to hold in our tears. We didn’t succeed.

Fun fact: The Lion King marked the second time that James Earl Jones and Madge Sinclair (Mufasa and Sarabi) played African royalty. They also played the king and queen of Zamunda in Coming To America in 1988.
