@jellypunk1495 True and I agree, what I'm saying is 2 steps back is already a big exit attempt. If opponent is too aggressive oftentimes my strategies is finding opportunity to land check hook.
One thing I did in some light sparring recently is when my partner got really aggressive I got low and threw a cross to his gut and stepped to his inside to angle around him. I am a bigger dude so I surprised even myself that I pulled it off but it was effective at making him slow down over time. I’m grateful for my experience even if it isn’t much
The V dip can also work if needed. As they're coming in you dip down and then come back up to full height while moving slightly forward, and chances are you'll catch their chin/face with the top of your head. Only really advisable in a streetlight or if a fight has gone very dirty though.
I did mixed martial arts and though I wasn't directly taught karate some of the other people were taught it because it fit their kind of natural style, I guess. One of the things was actually a little bit of an agility drill. Think of every direction as one of the spokes on a compass. And so you wanna move to the southeast or northwest of your opponent. That could potentially put you in their blind spot. And you throw a stunning strike as you step over. And so we would call out the directions on the compass, and you have to move to that spot, and you use a strike of your choice. You use a finish of your choice. It's slightly different from this situation because we could dive roll, we could roll, cartwheel (Don't cartwheel in the middle of a serious fight, please), etc, whatever you need to do to clear the line of attack of your opponent and to get into a blind spot. I would absolutely recommend that drill for anyone, and you can do it with no equipment. Just pick a focal point. If you need an object there, you can use a chair or whatever you have readily available around the house.
I like that jab - shield - roll....and that's a nice shoulder check trick 👍👍 can't do that in a street fight as easy but in the ring use everything you got.
I'm usually the shorter guy who has to come forward. So what i do is similar to what qawi used to do, dip to the outside and jab, occasionally springing something different on them. However if someone pressures me back and walks into my range, i shell up behind my high guard, flex my stomach, absorb their shots and try to fire inbetween theirs or right afterwards. Once you crack them a few times they will calm down, but it's a little rough at first
I’m 47 is it too late for me to learn boxing? I wouldn’t mind training a few days a week and maybe sparring once in a while once I learned enough to not get pummeled. I don’t know if that’s a realistic idea or not though let me know your thoughts
It honestly depends how experienced your partner is a good guy understands especially with light sparring the whole point is to hit and nit get hit and you can put steam on it if it was a fight so practice as if it was but someguys just walk you down in sparring because they think you can't punch or whatever a good dude gets it and if he's much better than you hell start to kinda play with you
my instinct is to duck and go in for a takedown.. but i guess that's not allowed in a boxing match, and that's why i actually like to watch MMA more than boxing
I hate how legit moves that don’t cause more damage than a punch to the face are considered “dirty”. Such as that shoulder barge or stepping on your opponents foot. Why not just stand in front of each other and swing until one guy is knocked out like that don fry vs takayama?
no get cornered... and time them they gonna repeat something in the process. time them with a freakin shovel hook to the face. they might not spar you again because that would be a knock down at least if you hit it right with enough power. but what shane saide is what you should do.
Or,or,hear me out ,you can’t say f boxing, and shoot a double leg on them or an elbow, head kick, low kick, why use only your fist and not 100% of your body 😂😂 mma all day but yea good tip tho
As a former dancer it's interesting to watch similar lines through the body even in boxing. Your precision makes it look easy🫡
A lot of fighters are encouraged to take dancing because of the similarities in foot work. You should try boxing and see how you do.
@@DennisHeenan honestly I was mostly a figure skater but cross trained to dance. I'll look for a gym and give it a shot. Subbed

This is a nice alternative to the check hook.
That's what I thought, when I'm already 2 step back and my opponent is still rushing forward I am really looking to land check hook
The right cross and angle cut works wonders adding a check hook when pivoting.

Your shoulder in boxing is the best weapon, and defense

It ain't much, but it's honest work (gut punches)
The shoulder bump really does help a lot. As a longer fighter who likes to clinch it’s a nice way to get inside during Muay Thai
I got to say you've got the best tips on the internet
If they're trying to hurt you in sparring the shoulder check is definitely not dirty
Love the shoulder love tap, I am a big guy, and have trained that as though it were a short jab, which it pretty much is now.
Man youre smooth with it 👌 i started watching your channel when I was like 21, here at 29 and always using your videos for the week's training program
With Muay Thai you can do the same thing be a leg kick/ sweep works really well after throwing that cross or jab then angle out and sweep or kick
Precision , perfection, powerful insightful lessons
I really appreciate you Shane. Always helping me, and others, improve.
Absolutely solid tip ✅️
Since the cowboy vs mcgregor fight i developed a love for shoulder strikes
Sound advice, great advice, very much appreciated. When I next spar, it'll instantly disappear from my head. As always.
commenting here to remind u of it again
why do you support throwing political opponents out of helicopters? That's a horrific way to go. What would your mum think of you if she knew?
@@GodOfTheInternets Go be cringe somewhere else.

Those are my favorite sparring partners. They make you work on everything
Amazing tip. I've faced a similar situation. Thank you!
THIS IS GREAT ADVICE THANK YOU!
Shane why are you not competing? Your skills look so good i started watching your videos 5years ago get in the IIIIIIIITS TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME!
This is like a karate front foot pivot
Thanks to this can you make a vid for aggressive fighters on how to counter this tactic
I like this one. Good form and technique

Damn ben gravy knows his stuff
Thank God for this tutorial. Muay Thai 🙋♂️
Great Tip!!
The first time that I boxed with gloves and head gear I really got my bell rung
You really seem to know your stuff! Thx
Great video.
I'm 6'3 - not many opponents I can put my shoulder in their stomach.
Wow, just the tip I need it!!!

Check hook?
Yep!
I just tried this in the kitchen. Way harder than it looks, and i have 5 years in martial arts already.
Jimmi Corsetti with hands.
Everytime i step aside i get countered by a hook

Back step, back step, feint right, slide left, overhand right up the middle, jab, jab, cross, uppercut, body shot. Goodnight.
Wont you be prone to onees if you shoulder drop?
Nooo don't tell them how to stop my style from getting in 😅 jk jk, excellent info bro
I wish I had a place to train and spar that didn't take an hour to get to. :T
Introducing the groin kick.
"DISQUALIFIED"
As my coach always says the liver tastes delicious
Everyone has a plan until they get punched
my instinct is to duck and go in for a takedown.. but i guess that's not allowed in a boxing match, and that's why i actually like to watch MMA more than boxing
Also keeps them from generating force
Nice

U forgot check hook brathar 😢
Ye I have observed young amateur boxers try to punch fast and hard. Unlike pros a bit more conservative like.
Most people that watch this aren't boxers , so street applications are necessary. Real fights are dirty and grimy .
Gervonta Davis
You should fight Jake Paul.
Does this guy have any actual fighting credentials besides training and sparring?
Yeah, he does
very important dont let your head go past your knee or u go off balance. i see u know that coach but just for the others watching
I know that this was
Yeah right try doing that nonsense against Mike Tyson and see what happens 😂😂😂😂
Really??? Mexicans I thought love going to the corner. But also always walking forward toward the enemy
Mate show me one of your fights
Go away
Theory vs practice is different. Film yourself having a real fight then I'll take you seriously

It literally says that this is for boxing in the title
Step to a side when fighting a Thai boxer watch your head get knocked off by his legs lol 🤣
Almost like this is for boxing
Killer advice!
