  • There aren't a lot of Nicktoons that made an attempt at keeping an overarching story active while maintaining continuity... Lets just be honest. Whereas many adult shows rely heavily on this, in the world of kids cartoons it seems as if that concept has been deemed pointless. However, Danny Phantom felt like the one Nicktoon that not only attempted to keep up that overarching story, but also did so in a way that was almost better than many adult shows. That's why today, on our nostalgic walk down memory lane, we're going to check out the episode of Danny Phantom that revealed the overarching story to us...

    Tbh, I think the saddest, most tragic part is, Vlad was right and, in another timeline, he got one of the things he wanted in the most horrific way. He said he and Danny could be powerful and rule the world together and, well, they did. Dan/Dark Danny is the very result of that that ended up destroying everything and everyone. There's another episode where Danny tries to save Vlad from the portal but unknowingly, saving Vlad means the beam will bounce and hit Jack and Jack gets put in Vlad's situation and no one visited him but because he saw Danny leaving he spent his life trashing his house in rage as he couldn't find the "Ghost Boy" who ruined his life and when Danny tries to explain, Jack hunts him, Vlad, and Maddie in revenge. The episode proves Jack is no better than Vlad and the world is better off for it because Vlad was careful in his research while Jack needs Maddie to succeed so the ghost problem isn't nearly as bad. Danny undos the "mistake" because his personal life is worse though as he was never born and Danny learns that the answer to the trolley problem is do nothing otherwise you're responsible for someone's suffering. Doesn't matter that the overall suffering is reduced in the slightest. I don't know why the episode chose to allude to the fact life is better while showing Danny's family never occurs so this is the "worst" timeline. It feels like the banned fairy odd-parents episode where Timmy wishes he didn't exist and everyone was happier he didn't exist except they made sure Danny had something which was Family which doesn't exist because of him so he has to fix it to bury the point that a lot of problems were caused by Jack and everyone would be better off if he suffered from his mistakes instead of the innocent friend he then abandons in the hospital and that both Vlad and Jack weren't good friends to each other. And that soulmates aren't a thing and Maddie loves them both and married whoever didn't get hit by the beam.

    Let's be fair here: Jack is rarely given the credit he's due do to his personality. I mean, he was able to: create a portal to another dimension (which failed a few times but managed to work eventually by the time he was out of college), created several inventions that run on ectoplasmic energy (something that by all intentions, is an energy source that the world has never tapped), has made many of his household appliances/devices into weapons/tools that run on the ectoplasmic energy (from his van, to his house, to even a thermos that can suck in ghosts), is strong enough to fight and overwhelm ghosts who by all means should be able to handle a human like Jack (I am looking at Vlad in his ghost form, the Fright Knight in a prototype robot part, and Skulker who is reputed as the "greatest hunter" in the Ghost World), was able to fish and bring back a giant monster from the Ghost World (that Skulker brought when he was hunting him and Danny on a father/son fishing trip), and is STILL capable of paying/maintaining a house for four despite being obsessed with ghosts while raising two teenagers.

      I'm thinking the Fentons make/supply/maybe even fix inventions/machines for high paying customers, ghost related or otherwise. It might be the only way they could support a family with a small, two employee staffed business. And if it IS just Jack and Maddie, they don't have to have money to pay employees. Everything's split between bolstering the business and keeping their family afloat.

    My impression was that Maddie liked Jack all along, and Vlad has main character syndrome. If you think about it, wouldn't have Maddie visited Vlad in the hospital or still kept in contact more if the feeling was mutual? As you pointed out in both the photo and flashback sequences, Maddie is always standing close by Jack while Vlad is off to the side. I think if Jack were more capable of reading feelings it's possible that he would have even tried to help Vlad with Maddie. Jack just seems like that type of guy. However, I think the biggest difference between Jack and Vlad is that Jack, depsite his foolishness, still would recognize that Maddie can choose for herself, which is why Vlad always loses.

    • @kagemaru397
      @kagemaru397 Před 2 měsíci +51

      Yeah.
      Or maybe Maddie DID visit Vlad at first if she WASN'T put off (enough) by him, then stopped after her and Jack graduated/got married. We know they get married 2 years after the accident. And depending on WHEN in college this was, they may have graduated soon after if they were upperclassmen or those two set it up to happen right around when they were graduating. If they were Freshmen, then they graduated around the time Jazz was born/Maddie was pregnant with Jazz since Jazz is 16 in the present day. If it's the latter, Maddie could have easily hid that she was pregnant from Vlad if she was still visiting him at that point, ESPECIALLY if she wasn't that far along or even didn't know herself. AND, at some point in all of this, they relocated to Amity Park which would have DEFINITELY stopped the visits so frequently.
      I agree that Jack would have tried to play wingman. But it wouldn't have worked as long as Vlad insisted on being a creepy jackass. It would have torn their trio apart sooner. Vlad's problem was never that Jack was a dunce or that Maddie wouldn't give him a chance, it was that he was an asshole. And if he would have come to a similar realization to Danny's in The Ultimate Enemy, he would have had a better life. With or without Maddie.

    In Danny Phantom: Ultimate Enemy, there was an alternate universe where Danny’s parents, sister, Tucker, and Sam were killed when they were trapped in Nasty Burger when it exploded. After the incident, Danny moved in with Vlad because he was the only one who knew about and understood his powers. Danny asked Vlad to remove his human self, because he didn’t want to deal with the guilt and grief he felt towards his family and friends (because he felt that their deaths were indirectly caused by his mistakes).
    Vlad agreed and it almost worked (he successfully separated Danny’s human and ghost selves), but Danny’s ghost self separated Vlad from his ghost self and fused with him. The ghost fusion became the evil Danny that Danny Phantom had to deal with in the episode.
    Edit: part of Shawn’s video claims that Vlad wanted Danny to be his son. In the ultimate enemy timeline, Vlad was willing to adopt Danny.

      You want to know something what Danny should have done to avert the events of The Ultimate Enemy: have Alicia meet Vlad and formed a romantic relationship with her. If you must know, Maddie has a sister named Alicia. She first appeared in the Danny Phantom episode "Prisoner of Love" where Maddie moves back to Arkansas because Jack forgot about his wedding anniversary with Maddie. Also, information about this character was that Alicia is bitter, single and alone and she is divorce from her husband.
      Here is the question: In the Danny Phantom episode, The Ultimate Enemy, after the death of Danny's friends and family at the Nasty Burger explosion and Danny moves in with Vlad, what about Alicia, Maddie's sister. Where was Alicia during the events of The Ultimate Enemy and why he never helped Danny? What is Alicia's reaction to her sister being dead? It would be interesting if, not only Danny moves in with Vlad on his castle, but also bringing Alicia with him to Vlad's castle so thet Alicia can meet Vlad. If Alicia was in The Ultimate Enemy, Alicia tries to convince Vlad not to go through of removing Danny's human emotion and they decide to help Danny recover from losing his family and friends and form a romantic relationship with each other. In regards to the King, I find it mysterious that he died and Vlad was able to get his property. After which he invited the Phaetons to stay there and tried to have Jack killed before arriving. This makes me think that Vlad wanted Maddie to arrive widowed (single) so he could get a second chance at her. It also makes me suspect that he’s got even more twisted goals, methods and dreams then given credit for as it’s implied that Vlad either knew more about the King’s death then he was letting on or worse, had a strong hand in it. And as for Jazz in that last scene, I saw it a little differently from her point of view. Yes part of it is she’s being a know-it- all, but she also grew-up with her parents who were obsessed with ghosts and the supernatural, so she’s probably developed a level of dislike for such topics. Growing up there were probably many times that she was likely embarrassed by her parents for their profession and their reputation as not many people deal with those topics let alone have parents that deal with those topics. So when in front of her peers and knowing who her parents were the subjects of her parents profession and reputation was uncomfortable and most likely got her made fun of or meanly teased. In addition to that Jazz was also probably used to having such chaos around her after being brought-up in such a household and was the way that she came to cope with dealing with such issues. And lastly she just had to go on a trip with her family that she likely didn’t want to go on, had to stay in a haunted castle and had to stay with a real creep who constantly hit hard on her mom. So, yeah Jazz is being a pain, but it’s not without reason.

      It's like the implication with Bradford and Duckworth.
      Vlad would have also have had to account for at least four more things: 1. Maddie moving the family to her sister's. 2. Maddie's sister moving to Amity Park to be with them. 3. Maddie staying in Amity Park and restructuring the family business to stay afloat with her as the sole employee/boss, assuming she doesn't hire help to fill Jack's spot. (She'd even have extra money to pay them with him gone.) Or 4. Maddie moving to/taking in someone else on EITHER her or Jack's side of the family. This isn't like Danny in The Ultimate Enemy. If Jack were to meet his demise somehow, Maddie (likely) has options outside of Vlad to choose from. ESPECIALLY if she's creeped out by him. Vlad would either have to account for these, or be blindsided by them.

      @Jacobgillingham6602: I've always wondered what it would've been like and how it would've been as if it were Maddie who got the ghost powers instead. Jack and Vlad had both felt that same about her. In the normal timeline after Vlad got the ecto-acne and the
      ghost powers, not only was he hospitalized and having ruined his social life, he had become bitter and remained single, but in the alternate timeline with having it be Jack instead with getting the ecto-acne and him with the same ghost powers that Vlad originally
      had. It was the same thing with Jack as it was for Vlad. Because with Jack, he had remained bitter and single like Vlad. But if it were to happen Maddie, then I wonder how it would be if say she was hospitalized with the ecto-acne and got the ghost powers. If she
      was to remain single and bitter, I'd think if Jack and Vlad had both moved on for themselves without Maddie, and had maybe found different wives, then I'd like to see how Maddie would've been like all for those matters, as to if that were to happen with Maddie instead of Jack nor Vlad. 🤔... I've always wondered about how that would've been like... 🤔... hmm... any thoughts on anything with that theory whatsoever??

    • @kagemaru397
      @kagemaru397 Před 2 měsíci +5

      @@greatmyths86 This would be interesting.....She probably would have been pissed at Jack. And at least possibly questioning whether pairing off with him would be right. If Jack felt the same way or even if they were already dating at that point (and Vlad didn't know yet), it would have crushed him. He would have felt like scum and rethought his ways. And eager for a chance to prove/redeem himself with Maddie.
      As for Vlad. It depends. On one hand, if his feelings for her were shallow enough, he probably would have gotten over Maddie then and tossed her aside while maybe still being friends with Jack. Unless he messed up another way somehow, like maybe insulting Maddie when seeing that Jack still cares for her. I could just as easily see Vlad visiting her in the hospital a bunch and trying to win her over instead of listening to her and caring for her as a person. MAYBE Maddie's taken in at first, but I could could likely see her being first inwardly, than outwardly repulsed at Vlad's self serving modus operandi and her rejecting him as both a friend and a prospective boyfriend.
      So three ways: 1. Maddie is taken in by Vlad's manipulative charm in the hospital and she pairs off with him, similar to the Jack Plasmius (should be Phantom) timeline 2. Jack works his ass off to make it up to Maddie, preparing for the possibility she could dismiss him for good at any time, Maddie sees that Jack has changed and will be less reckless, and they end up together anyway (And Jack is turned on at the idea of doing it with his now half ghost girlfriend/fiancee/wife. :p Assuming they don't just try to find a cure for her and succeed.) 3. Maddie rejects both of them and deals with her pain away from them somehow, some kind of way. This is a wildcard and even I can't think of much beyond this.

      maybe Vlad would've had his chance to get with Maddie that is if Maddie say, felt sorry for what happened to Vlad, and as if she couldn't stand Jack for almost killing him. And not wanting to be involved with someone who may

    35:45 To be fair, I hadn't realized the flaw in Vlad wearing a suit in the middle of the night either. You just see him in a suit and bow tie so much that it feels immediately natural, and the fact that he _is_ a rich and eccentric man makes it feel totally feasible that he'd change in the middle of the night just to go pee before returning to bed with the sole purpose being to avoid not looking fancy while he has house guests. It kinda feels in character for him to just _be_ that eccentric, which is why I think Danny, and potentially even a good majority of the audience, thought nothing of it without it being pointed out directly - I surely didn't.
    44:25 Also, I didn't think twice about the "Can you do this yet?", either. Just goes to show you that, when a show is written really well, they can distract the people who aren't nit-picking through their content as a career from the obvious flaws, and that just makes the episode even more impactful for people.

So we just brush aside the fact that Vlad's clothes don't fit the situation as "of course that's what he's wearing, that's what he always wears."

    Okay the thing with Jazz' advice. She literally said that stuff _after_ their Mom said "that is the oldest excuse in the book" suggesting something along the lines they used the same excuse as kids. With Jazz' statements being, "okay, then prove it"... but in a _very_ diplomatic manner
    In the case of Jazz trying to be a parent to Danny... that is something you expect with parents that are... uh... not particularly good at being parents. And the Fenton parents are _very_ bad parents
    In the case of the "of course she was fired, she was posting crackpot stuff"... the _only_ evidence of "Ghosts" is somebody was flying. With this world having demonstrated that there is different sets of high-tech stuff. With the flying stuff likely being able to be chalked up to some new tech that Tucker likely would geek out over
    As per her being bad at psychology... she is a kid. At her age, you've not had enough time to _not_ be terrible at psychology. Remember about how in order to be good at something, you gotta start off being not really that good at stuff
    It should be noted that _After_ Jazz is aware of ghosts... she is usually the one that is able to come up with cover up stories for what happened. The twelve time she is able to blame it on weather balloons, she gets an ice cream sundae! Most of her cover up stories are very easy to point out issues with them. So, that kind of puts her disbelief of the flying stuff as understandable

She didn't dismiss what Danny was going through like their parents did she offered a way for their parents to talk about their childhood like if they ever got grounded for being a few minutes late to curfew. She goes to highschool with him she probably sees and or hears what's happening with him in school. What I find interesting about Vlad is that, in the alt-timeline where Jack becomes half-ghost instead of Vlad, Vlad marries Maddie & still gains both the castle and immense wealth. Implies that he never needed the ghost powers to become a success (and that he was technically right - if not for Jack's blunder, there was at least a chance that he would have gained Maddie's affections and and had a genuine relationship with her - especially since, iirc, he never tried to harm ghost-Jack in that timeline until prime-timeline Danny got involved and he realized Danny was going to try and set things back onto the path where Vlad become his evil-ghost self. Shows that he always had a nugget of evil, but that he was never all-evil).

      I guess Vlad was always annoyed by Jack's stupidity, but he tried to be a good friend and keep their friendship. And honestly, he didn't seem all that evil before season 3 ruined everything, he was just broken and didn't recover to start his own family.
      In my opinion, the show blew up the potential of Maddie divorcing with Jack and moving into Vlad's domain since he's the most trusted man she knows. Perhaps we could see Vlad's genuine care and support instead of unhealthy obsession and big ego.
      Plus, it would've been awesome if Jack realized what a pathetic fool he is, quit ghosthunting and decided to find a new job to get Maddie back.
      Such a shame Vlad's introduction episode ruined his ghost secret. But it wouldn't have been that bad idea if Maddie actually began to question if her relationship with Jack is that healthy. Obviously everything would come back to normal, but since Jack and Maddie weren't given development throughout the show at least such plot would've been something interesting.
      I only was introduced to the show and binged it this year, but apart from the mess that was season 3 I questioned myself why Vlad couldn't just clone Maddie if he tried to do that with Danny. Since he had holograms and AI imitating her it would've been his main priority logically. It's also a shame he didn't have any vampire powers when he obviously looked like one, the "occultist" Nickelodeon excuse cracked me up hard when I heard this especially when it's the same studio that gave foot fetish loving creep a chance to fulfill his darkest desires.

      @eek Yeah, Danny and Sam could have been handled better as much as I shipped them since Day 1. AND Sam should have gotten better development. When do you think they SHOULD have gotten together if at all?
      I feel like the thing with Maddie and Jack questioning things was more or less done in the episode she left to be with her sister for a while. So it DID happen, just within an episode. I do feel too like they should have been developed more. Maybe making their marriage troubles into an arc would have been better. ESPECIALLY since them and their family's way of life more or less depends on them being/staying married. They're the bosses/sole employees of their own business which is likely what keeps their family afloat.
      As for Vlad not cloning Maddie, my guess is that he wanted the real thing. I can take or leave the vampire powers, and yeah, Dan Schneider's all sorts of terrible. AND had a similar problem to Butch. Can't write for shit without a team and had shows suffer as a result of this.

    I want to say I've been a big fan of your videos; seeing these videos and you analyzing these cartoons brings me back to my childhood when I first watched these shows, and even now, years later, they hold a special place in my heart. This is off-topic, but I wish Nickelodeon made more specials; I remember the Hey Arnold, Invader Zim, and Rocko's Modern Life specials. We could've seen more of our favorite cartoons, and I would've been happy with just a few more specials, maybe to wrap up storylines and get closure to these characters and their worlds; I even heard rumors other Nickelodeon cartoons expanded universe planned, and they chickened out on it at the last minute. Oh well, there's always hope for the future.
    I wanted to talk about your theory about Vlad previously hitting on Maddie before episode Bitter Reunions, and she is keeping it a secret from Jack. That would fit both of their characters. Vlad really wants her for himself, and Maddie keeps Vlad's feelings towards her a secret from Jack because she fears Jack's reaction. Maddie said in the future episode that Jack has a jealous side and fears his overreaction, but I believe, as you said, she may want to preserve Jack's positive memories of his time in college and Vlad.
    Honestly, as much as I like this theory, I'm going to have to debunk it. When Vlad revealed his feelings towards Maddie in episode Maternal Instincts, she was repulsed by him ever since, and while she kept it a secret from her husband Jack, she made her feelings known to Vlad discreetly, and while Vlad saving Danny may have caused her to say that she's willing to let bygones be bygones, she continues to have a negative view on Vlad. In this episode, Maddie is more awkward around Vlad and with his flirting with him. My theory is that Maddie is not taking his flirting seriously; she treats him as an old friend who may flirt with her. I also believe that Maddie is awkward around Vlad because of the accident; she knows that Vlad has a good reason to resent her husband, is sympathetic towards him for suffering from the accident, and knows that Jack is oblivious to Vlad's negative feelings. Maddie probably hopes that maybe the two of them can make peace with each other but acknowledges to herself that it's also unlikely that Vlad can forgive Jack and accept that and wants to protect her husband's feelings in case Vlad makes it clear that he's not going to forgive Jack. Of course, when Vlad reveals that he always resents Jack for stealing her away from him, Maddie loses whatever sympathy, positive feelings, and friendship she has had with Vlad and hated him ever since.
    It's a good theory and fits both Vlad's and Maddie's characters, but it's unlikely to be true.
    I'm looking forward to seeing you analyze other Danny Phantom episodes, and I'm going to comment on your other videos.❤

    According to butch hartman they wanted dannys cousin to absorb Vlad and become evil danny since in this timeline he didnt go down that route.
    It was gonna be a huge showdown of her, danny, that black chick no one remembers and then dannys wedding to her.
    So Vlad canon dies in the series. Let that sink in. An actual death in the show

    Jazz having this now-it-all attitude is not only a Psuychology thing, it is also a Teenager thing. I may be old, but unlike most adults my age (are willing to admit), I remember well what I and my peers were like at her age. Teenagers start to be insufferable know-it-alls starting about age 15. While the world and teenage problems may change constantly, teenage attitudes tend to be pretty much constant, generation after generation.

    It's not nostalgic but I've recently discovered Owl House, and when you talk about what makes the story great, keeping the mystery without a cliff hanger, I thought of that. It is so great at balancing sci fi adventure with emotion with a little humor and horror. It's for kids so it's a little predictable but also keeps you interested to see how it all unfolds. But I think you'd like it and I'd love to hear your review of it.

    You sound like your reaching for that toxic incel statement, vlad didn’t say “that accident robbed me of finally getting Maddie to love me” he said it robbed him of his chance with her, obviously he didn’t just assume she’d end up with him, but he had the confidence to think he could of easily won her over if given the chance to impress her better then jack could have. This isn’t some incel thing, this is a classic love triangle situation that ended before it had time to grow into an actual race between the two guys

    Love this video. I remember watching this episode when it first aired and suspecting the Vlad was this mystery new ghost and how awesome it felt they quickly confirmed it. Something else I realize is looking at Jack, Maddie, & Vlad’s backstories it’s very similar to Dr Doom & Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four comics. The only difference being that in the comics Reed and Victor von Doom were roommates/colleagues in college. When Dr Doom tried to build a machine that would open a portal or try to view a portal to hell to save his mother’s soul (comic books). Reed notices the formula is wrong and tries to warn Doom who doesn’t listen. The machine malfunctions and explodes horribly disfiguring Dooms face and expelling him from the im university, despite this he would forever blame Reed Richards for this. Sometime after Reed would meet and fall in love with Sue Storm (who’s never met Doom prior to the Fantastic Four). Some more noticeable comparisons could be the green and gold color scheme (also great for Wisconsin), the fact that he has a mansion that is very obviously an ominously styled castle, plus both villains aren’t afraid to be a bit campy, dramatic, and theatrical.

Now my kids are in school, one about to go into middle school, and WOW things are different. They still have planners, much like we did, but they also are issued small laptops to do work at home. They do about half their homework on them, the other half being your classic paper homework. I'll say I do appreciate it more though, as the kids are like I was and constantly erasing and re-writing things on homework. Sometimes they'll mess up the paper, whereas on the computers they can just re-do it.

    I like how the episode "Masters of All Time" explores the what-if timeline if it was Jack who got in the accident instead of Vlad. Throughout the episode its clear that Vlad was always evil, and that the only thing the accident did was give power to that. He did end up with Maddie, but its hinted at that he got with her through psychological manipulation (the fact Vlad told Maddie that Jack was on the hunt to kill her so they had to be secluded together).

    Like, Vlad already saved your life before (granted, he put you in the situation in the first place), and he currently has you in capitivity. For all you know, you are powerless to stop any of his plans; and you'll very likely make a powerful enemy even if you somehow manage to escape him. Not only does Vlad have leverage over you in the ghost-world, but also in the real world with his wealth and influence.

  • @kagemaru397
    @kagemaru397 Před 2 měsíci +4

    Vlad was always gonna be terrible. Because in all timelines except for the Dan Phantom one, he chose this. I think Jack does have on rose colored glasses with Vlad throughout the series (until the finale), and it IS very likely Vlad just tolerated him (to get to Maddie likely). Wish we'd seen more of their dynamic in the 80s and maybe even before. And how Maddie's sister fit into all of this. Maybe they were in a way the Danny and Jazz of their generation. In the timeline where Vlad marries Maddie instead, he treats her like an object and manipulates her. He sees her as a prize to be won and not a human with agency. If she wanted to, she would have gone for Vlad instead of Jack.
    It reminds me of the dynamic between Let, Julia, and Jegan in Rave Master. But with them, we get to see more of how things ended up the way they were. Let=Jack, Julia=Maddie, and Jegan=Vlad. Plus I was reading Rave Master around the time that Danny Phantom was on. (If anyone cares, I'm 32, 3 years older than Shawn, and this was between late 2004 and when the show ended in 2007. I would go on to read Rave until its own end in 2009.)
    I never noticed that Maddie appears literally and figuratively closer to Jack in the 80s. Hell, they may have even ALREADY been dating by then, but for some reason Vlad didn't know. (Maybe Maddie intentionally wanted to keep it a secret, having a bad feeling at least, or wanted to sneak around with Jack a bit for her own shits and giggles if Vlad wasn't a factor. Or it was Jack's idea to keep it a secret for whatever reason. Definitely nothing to do with Vlad since he didn't even realize until the end of the series Vlad was into Maddie and likely would have at least been more careful with this if he ever knew. Even if it is him. If so, that'd make them even MORE like the Rave Master trio.
    Vlad contacting Maddie...that'd be an interesting twist. I feel like Vlad would have been more subtle in trying to lure her from Jack back then. But if he WAS more up front, I could easily see Maddie keeping quiet so Jack remembers him as he was (to him) and not the traitor and (attempted) homewrecker he truly is. Also, women tend to feel uncomfortable talking about sexual harassment/unwanted advances. She could have just as easily felt gross about the whole thing and maybe was afraid of how one or both or EITHER would respond to Vlad being exposed. Afraid that Jack would think she was cheating or would flip out on her or him (which if this would have been when he was rich could have led to a ring of Hell), and/or even that he'd question if Danny and/or Jazz are actually his stepkids or not. Afraid that Vlad would go psycho on her, or Jack, or even Danny and/or Jazz if they'd been born at that point. (depending on when Vlad got out of the hospital, this was likely after those two were born) She could have been afraid for her career (even though she's her own boss by the mid 2000s), her birth family's judgement, society's judgement. Society is plain AWFUL to women who get creeped on.
    I chalk up Danny not realizing he was dealing with another half breed to the shock of it all. He WAS in the middle of a fight and didn't have time for TOO much thinking. As for Jazz, yeah, she had issues back then. But thankfully gets better. She thought she got it all, but got nothing. And ignored her own problems. Katara and Mako were the same way, but Jazz doesn't even have the excuse of dead/absentee parents. And she got out of the closest she would have come to this in the Dan Phantom debacle. Yeah, empathizing with Danny would have been better. It wasn't the 70s/80s anymore and things were different. I too think it's a load of crap to think like that. While there's universal things that never change about being a teenager/younger adult, it's different eras. I can't relate to my parents' generation of having typewriters in school and I can't relate to the generation of my classmates' kids having tablets in school.

  • @KazmirRunik
    @KazmirRunik Před 2 měsíci +2

    A lot of this was taken up by the idea that things change across generations, and while that is true, the way you harp on it makes it seem like it was ALWAYS just ignorant for parents to weigh their children's current struggles against their own past struggles. The thing is, that sentiment from parents was a lot more true around the 2000s when Danny Phantom was on the air. The Web becoming a mainstream part of culture to the point that it supplants people's social experiences, it's changed the new generation's struggles entirely.
    You don't really see parents saying that they know exactly what their kids are going through anymore, not in the same way that parents used to do (like what you see in this decade-old show). The struggles of the newer generations are alien, and the parents know it. Some try to keep their kids off the Web entirely out of fear, some keep their hands off because they don't really know what to do, and some parents even become victims themselves to a lack of media literacy when faced with things they find on the Web.
    A parent of today saying that they know exactly what their kids are going through, that would be worth the outrage, but a parent back in the 2000s saying it? It wasn't so ignorant back then. Social media was Myspace, which teenagers would get on maybe 30 minutes out of a day, since you couldn't access it through the phone, in turn because smartphones weren't really established in those times. Culture mostly played out through the same mediums for decades, right up until social media & smartphones became a staple of mainstream culture. I get that the difference in struggles between generations is a very legitimate grievance especially now, but when you're looking back at people of the past, judging them by the standards of today puts a bit of a wrench in how you might perceive what they're thinking.
