- The House held a Speaker election to replace former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy who was removed from the position on October 3. During the first round of House Speaker election balloting, Jim Jordan fell short of the 217 votes he needed to win the gavel.

House Democrats continued to be united with all 212 members voting for Rep. Hakeem Jeffries while 20 Republicans voted against the Republican nominee Jim Jordan. The House will have to hold another vote.

It’s not the paychecks it’s the lobbyists pay they they get for voting for a special interest. No Congress person makes millions and gets a guaranteed retirement which includes being appointed to the board of a companies they voted for while in office. Do you know that most bills that your elected representatives introduce are written by lawyers that work for lobbyists and are not even read by your congress members? How does the house speaker push his agenda? I thought he is to help facilitate what the agenda of the house is or of the majority. Why does so much attention to his convictions and beliefs but nothing to his thoroughness and skills? That seem really good as a house speaker?
I do think the gifts of Jim Jordan not his personal belief system, which i happen to wholeheartedly agree, but outside of that his gifts of administration and thoroughness is good for the house. There seems a lot of character assassination and no one's talking about what kind of skills are needed to be an administrator here. I think he's got them. No matter what, my viewpoint is of the issues that some call extreme I call closely held firmly held beliefs like abortion is murder and homosexuality is sin and I thank God we have the liberty in our country not to be silenced. Majority is more than 50%. Currently, Jeffries has a "plurality" of the votes cast, but need the votes of 5 Republicans to have the "majority".

Here here! Over the years since I turned 18, I’ve voted democrat because I’m from Mass. & I was raised within that community. As I got older I’ve acquired a change in respect to what things government shouldn’t be in control of. I actually wanted to vote for Kasick back in 16, simply because I really didn’t like Hillary but, absolutely couldn’t stand tRump. I ended up voting for her because in the end…. I care more about democracy. The only thing I can credit tRump with … is the fact that these past 7 years had me more engaged. I still don't understand why there is a prayer at the beginning of a session...isn't there a separation of church & state? Also, not everyone is Christian so shouldn't they say a prayer in other denominations. If I was in that room, I would not bow my head since I am an atheist.
