  • United States Army Basic Training (also known as Initial Entry Training, IET) is the recruit training program of physical and mental preparation for service in the United States Army, United States Army Reserve or Army National Guard. Basic training typically takes place over 10 weeks. Upon completion of the program, the recruits will earn the title “Soldier.” The title of Soldier is earned, never given.

    I am 55 years old now. I still remember Basic Training. It was funny in away. The guys that should have made it, sometimes didn't. The guy you thought would have failed, usually had more heart than expected and did better. Don't judge a book by it's cover.

      I'm 14, and I'm thinking about becoming either a soldier or a marine. I want to become a filmmaker when I'm done there (if I go). The only problem is that I'm sensitive. But I feel like the drill sergeants yelling at me wouldn't bother me too much because I know they're only trying to make me a better soldier. What do you think I should do?

    • @mikeeasterday9557
      @mikeeasterday9557 Před 6 lety +34

      You are 14 . you have 4 years to think about it first of all . Talk to other veterans. Go to an American Legion Post near you, and really talk to those people. Without meeting you , it would be unfair of me to give personal advice.

      @mikeeasterday9557 Před 6 lety +9

      First you are 14 years old . You may feel differently in 4 years . I would suggest also talking with members of the of different service organizations. American Legion would be a good start.

      Since that reply I realized I'm not as sensitive as I thought. I was when I was 10, though. I literally wouldn't hurt a fly. Not anymore, though. Also, since that reply, I watched videos on the Navy, and I think that would be a better choice for me. I'm thinking Mass Communications (MC) since I want to be a filmmaker.

      Find something that will give you college credit and can be used in the civilian world. You will still have to deal with basic training. But it is mostly a mental game. Just remember even when the drill instructors are screaming at you . They actually want to see you succeed.

Followed by a 1.5 mile of at least 15 minutes. Right before I left 30th AG to go "down range" to training I'll never forget what our reception Sgt said "Some of you men will realize you aint as tough as you think you are and some of you men will realize you're tougher than you ever thought you could be"
    Some days you will have the time of your life, some days you will wish
    to be anywhere but there... long when it's over you will beg to have it
    back.
    Just remember the more you sweat in training the less you bleed in
    combat, good luck.
    My best advice for those about to go to basic, realize very very quickly that your platoon is your family for the next 10 weeks, don't fight, don't argue, come together as a team because they are the ones who have your back and you theirs. They will pick you up when you fall, they will motivate you when you're crying to go home.

    The basics of Boot Camp:
    1. Reception - Get all your gear
    2. First 72 - 3 days of basically hell, this will be the hardest part.
    2. Red Phase - You will be broken down as an individual, learn your rifle and exercise.
    3. White Phase - Most at the range getting qualified.
    4. Blue Phase - Hone in your skills and pass all final test.

    Imagine being in a platoon, tasked to take the base of a plateau that has multiple artillery guns firing on friendly positions. Your mission is to sieze the artillery guns and make the US soldiers retreat back into the valley. You are walking with your squad, hearing the artillery become louder and louder until it becomes the only thing you hear when the guns fire. Suddenly, you hear a branch snap, so you look to your right. You think it was a deer, but the Sergeant tells you and a fellow squadmate to go and check it out. You suddenly see something large, it's probably the deer, so you call out to your squadmate, but he doesn't respond. You feel a tight grab on your neck and within the span of two blinks, you have a knife to your throat. You hear the rest of the squad coming to see what's going on, as you and your fellow soldier stopped responding. After the foliage reveals your squad, you hear a US soldier yell to attack, and you see at least ninety soldiers get up from the ground in full ghillie suits charging at your unit and the rest of your platoon while running like literal dogs. It's like a bayonet charge. Your platoon immediately opens fire, but your thirty-five strong platoon can't compare to the company of US soldiers doggie running at you with M-16s'. You feel the hand on your throat release its grip after you heard a bullet whiz right past your head. You can now see behind you, but you wish you couldn't. There now has to be at least one small battalion doggie running towards your platoon
    It's the end, you are surrounded. The doggie running US soldiers have taken your position, and the nearest battalion will take too long to relieve the siege on your position. What a disgraceful way to have it end.

    Some key tips during basic training, some people can get bad rashes because of the socks they issue during reception, get ready to not shower for three days straight in the beginning, keep your locker clean and separate your sleeping pts from working out pts. If you used pts for one morning but they aren't that sweaty or dirty use it again because they only allow you to clean your clothes at the end of the week. Do not sleep with your work out pts you will dirty your sheets and could get a rash. Do not get injured or try not to over exert your body. If you get injured and can't maintain physical standard with your class, you will get pushed back into another class that may be two to three weeks behind. These are tips I didn't know about but you guys should highly value when you go.
    P.S. keep a good watch on your laundry. People steal all the time especially pt clothes.

I'm praying for all of you that serve for your safety in battle and that you will defeat our enemies. Give'em hell cause they ain't worth a speck of dust to any of us. Sincerely David Baxter.
