It's not that he didn't make it, it's that they were originally told the role of Castiel was for a demon, so that the surprise of angels coming into the show would not be ruined. When he auditioned and they LIKED his audition, they informed him the role was actually an angel.

Misha, I want to say something touching and thank you for everything you do but I'm actually speechless. I'm sitting here with tears pricking my eyes because I know that all you do is sincere and that your heart is beautiful. I really couldn't ask for a better role model. And although there's a 99.9% chance I'll never meet you in my life, I'll keep praying and hoping so I can give you the biggest hug and tell you how much you and your work means to me and how talented you are. He helps so many charities and even creates them to save people from tragedies that have happened and he gives them a chance at a better life. I really look up to Misha Collins because of his undeniable love for the people that are less fortunate than us. He shares his passion with the world through videos like these, and after a few hours, he's gone national! From me personally, I will give him my full support to take with him on whatever journeys he will put himself through.

What I love about Misha is he's a celebrity who uses his fame as a means to a positive end. He didn't look at some charity and go, "Here's $5000, give me good publicity." He rallied his fans to help him really make a difference in the world and is still expanding on that concept. He's an exceptional actor and person and we could use a lot more people like him.
