Andalusite is one of my favourites! I first saw it on one of your live shows and I fell in love with it. It is almost as if autumn was trapped in a stone.
Andalusite will always have a special place in my heart because it was the final stone on my Gem-A Diploma exam. With time running out, there was something sooo reassuring about passing the dichroscope over the stone, seeing that huge shift in color, and knowing for certain what gem I had in front of me. I live in central Massachusetts and just north of me is a town where you can just find chiastolite just anywhere, in stone walls that are just leftover, lining the woods, (they used to be marking fields and pastures but inn the mid 1800's the farmers moved to Ohio, etc, and forests grew up where the farms used to be.) Haven't found any yet. Nice low key hobby, looking for chiastolite in the woods.
Love the description of carbon being pushed aside by crystal formation to form chiastolite crosses or trapiche emeralds. Great visualization.

I've really been enjoying this channel and love the presenters. Have you ever done a video on the important value differences between readily available commercial cut stones and quality cut (or custom cut) gemstones?
I love this show so much! I always learn the coolest things. I work at a little mom and pop jewelry store and we have one andalusite ring. I love taking it out and watching the play of light. It's nice to know more about it.
Andalusite is so pretty. They have just beautiful color and to have rutile inclusions Is wonderful! The many other forms of it are fascinating!

.I bought a 10.45 carat "alexandrite" online for around $10. I knew it wasn't going to be real. What I got was a sludgy pale brown stone that glints weird golden green tones by daylight. LED light turns it pretty brilliant golden green. Thanks for your video. I'm now pretty sure it's andalusite. I'm thinking of making a video showing it, if I do then I will link it here (if they let me)
What a fascinating stone! Your channel is great because this is exactly the kind of stone I wouldn't give a second glance to without the knowledge (due to lack of flashy colours) but now that you explain what's so special about it, this is one of the most fascinating stones I've ever heard about! Can't wait to see it in person one day at a gem show.

Very cool! I realize I have strands of these stones, cut into tiny faceted drilled stones and some Briolettes. I will have to check with a dichroscope! ^*because maybe not but the colors sure match. Also, it is one of my favorites. I kept calling it’a fall colors stone. I actually thought the strands were tourmaline but watching this, I believe they are andalusite.

I'm obsessed with dichroic trichroic and color change gemstones they are my obsession so in 2009 they found iolite intergrown with sunstone if you cut it into pieces you would have sunstone and iolite but having them intergrown made it my favorite gem now before it was iolite then sunstone now it's iolitesunstones that they found in India can't wait for another find

@@cherylj7460 they are mostly but they have the rainbow of sunstone but mostly that orange and then the blue violet iolite but can go to more blue green or more violet purple
Okay I’ve had a large stone that came from the right kind of deposits that I thought was weird quartz but im thinking it might be this I’ll have to go find it!
Very interesting, I love gemstones, minerals, and sparkly stuff. HOWEVER, "Contact Metamorphism" is NOT the correct designation for the kind of metamorphism that forms andalusite, kyanite, and sillimanite. The correct term is "Regional Metamorphism," and yes, it does result from the hyah! hyah! of smashing continents. Contact Metamorphism is the term for a more localized metamorphism that happens when magma intrudes into other rocks, heating and baking an aureole of altered minerals around it.

I was given a lot of faceted cut stones and a decent amount of them look like Andalusite/multi-colored tourmaline. I have a Refractometer/dichroscope along with some other gemological tools, how do I tell the difference?
Can you please also give some indications regarding the value of the stones you are presenting, price per carat polished stones and unpolished (rough). Low and high. Thank you.

I bought a matching pair of gems from Jtv way back in 2009 or 2010.
Misty was showcasing them and called them "Zultanite" I think?
I dunno. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly in my old age. LOL
They shifted between a raspberry iced tea color to a sage green, with a variation of khaki in the middle.

Zultanite is a trademarked name for certain pieces of diaspore, a gem with color change properties. We’ll be covering it in a future episode.

Jewelers 1st rule, never touch a stone with your hands. Leaves an oil residual on it. Always use a tweezers, ALWAYS.
