"CTG missed the point" Come on now he's made a career out of that 🤷‍♂️. Tyler was right to feel the way he felt and to push the message he was trying to push. And he's not wrong. As a black artist if you have ever rapped on wax or slide a verse in a metal album or a country song everything you make will be thrown in the same "we have to give black person an award so we dont get in trouble" category.

How are you just going to put words in Tyler's mouth.... he's saying what we've said for years why are Black Artists segregated away from other genres. They placed Rihanna's albums as R&B for a number of years, though she released consistent Pop albums. As a result, she lost Pop awards, but gained R&B/Soul awards that should have gone to real R&B/Soul artists. Same with Beyonce, Usher, and Chris Brown, who were Mainstream Pop Acts but were placed as Urban Music Artists; Unambiguously Black.
Pop is Popular Music. Should be no exclusion.

We know damn well If he could be white, he would change in a heartbeat but at that same notion he knows that he's seen as a unique artist because of complexion. He most likely wouldn't be as famous if he was another color. Deep down he hates his color but he knows there's an advantageous position because there are few "people of color" like him that does we he does. I'm speaking strictly from a sociological perspective. I'm not pro black. But a lot of these black artist clearly desire to be white, as in their mind it's synonymous with "Higher Art". 100%!! It's like when he gets on a side of something he stays there even when he doesn't know what he's talking about. I was making the same point on a video from last week when he gave Donkey of the Day to a father who had a reaction to a nonstandard move put on his son in a high school wrestling match. Charlemagne wanted to stick to the stance pretty much that in wrestling you should expect to get hurt and dangerous moves are part of the territory. It's what you sign up for. Really, he was wrong and just wasn't educated on it.
But I guess it can be attributed to the fact that he probably thinks in the sense of "yes, and" like a lot of improvisational people do and that probably keeps him from going back on his words. It gets annoying though for people who can see through it and especially when he perpetuates being so open minded.

    • @JugOnBlast

@Mutombo I can see the confusion here. Maybe "backhanded compliment" was the wrong way to frame it. Tyler doesn’t have an issue with being a rapper. The album IGOR doesn’t fit in that genre. He simply wanted to be acknowledged for what he did, which was a pop album. The type of music he produced this time around. He is a rapper, he can’t look down on himself. He’s confident.
And somebody must’ve told Angela to let go of her grudge against Charla, Cuz she done livened up. 👏🏾.

Tyler is speaking to the segregation of music that's been happening since a long time ago he just said that black artists or African-American artist whatever they put out if it's coming from an artist that's coming from the ghetto or the hood they're going to label it as Urban Music there are no ins to getting into the pop Lane unless severe Antics are display the segregation of artist should stop. He feels that he has made a creatively pop designed album and it should be labeled as such and the fact that he is getting snubbed and put into the Hip Hop Lane is racist

I agree with Tyler 100%. Dude is not trying to disrespect rap, he’s just saying that his album wasn’t just a rap album and that other black artists like himself get clumped into either rap or r&b regardless of their sound. They do the same thing to artists like Frank Ocean and FKA Twigs. Plus the urban category to me just is just something they made to appease black people.

That’s how Michael Jackson felt about his R&B nomination for Off the Wall. He felt like it was just a code for best black album. He came back and made the best selling album of all time with Thriller and they couldn’t deny it. 12 Grammy moms and 8 wins off that one album.
