- A 100-year-old man is standing trial for crimes he allegedly committed as an SS Guard at a Nazi concentraion camp during World War II. Due to privacy laws, he’s only being identified as Josef S. He’s charged with more than 3,500 counts of accessory to murder for the deaths of prisoners at the Sachsenhausen concentration camp between 1942 and 1945. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more. #news

It's what regret looks like. He did his job and probably feels guilty but if he didn't do his job he would be killed anyway. Plus he was a guard so just assisted in the deaths
If he wanted the job out of hate it's much different then if he was basically forced knowing refusal to comply would cost him his life.
I would rather die than guard innocent people before they were executed
The SS was separate from the military, and, until the end of the war, voluntary. The fact he’s on trial means he wasn’t conscripted. He was involved in the holocaust because he wanted to be. Edit: IIRC conscripts aren't prosecuted because they were forced into service.
