This so awesome, man. Incredible kindness from Jim and Rich but there's no one more deserving of it. You actually inspired me to get my first Tyler after seeing you play a maple neck blue classic through a pair of Matchless amps on a Crystal Lewis DVD- still one of the best tones I've ever heard!

I have a BW2K and it blows my mind every time I pick it up to play. My Tyler also has the same exact pups as yours, two 5500s in the neck and middle and a super in the bridge. Mine is made of mamywo though and it's got some aggressive mids! I love it!!!! I can dial the action down so damn low and it doesn't even buzz! F-ing amazing in every way! Oh, and I love the headstock!!!

Hi Shawn. From Japan. I made a comment perhaps nearly 2years ago and got your kind response.
Excited to see James Tyler..! I am 56. I first recognized Michael when “Maxus” released their first (and last…) debut album in the early 80’s. I was a high school kid playing “ARIA“ guitar. Then, saw James Tyler when he released his first solo “Tales from the bulge”. He had the famous “vomit” paint? guitar.
I saw him at the Boz Scaggs concert with Carlos Vega on the drum and Neil S.(on bass). It was sort of a “festival” type of concert, so, Joe Walsh Band and Michael McDonald Band were there with young Robben Ford on Guitar..!!! I recall he played a Strat..!
    He shredded a lot. Haha..
I own a guitar from Peter Skermetta. I believe he was one of the luthiers at James Tyler. I found his prototype on Ebay probably almost a decade ago and did my own research a bit and took a chance.
The serial number is 10101… . Sent email to Peter and he confirmed that it is his creation. Looks like he inherited a DNA from James Tyler and the rolled-up fretwork is excellent..!!! I am spoiled… It is so comfortable and I first thought I got a shorter scale neck, but it is full Fender size.
By the way, James Tyler has its own MIJ product line, too. Maybe, Tom Anderson, next..?

First, your playing is so tasteful and so fluid, it's allways a pleasure to listen to your demos. Probably that's what the people at Tyler did too. They listened and they send you this instrument made famous by the great Dan Huff and Mike Landau. Tyler is right! Every great pro musician must play a Tyler Guitar. And that's especially true for you. No matter if one can afford it or not. Congratulation.

So happy you were offered that guitar! What a great story. Lovely instrument of superior quality that sounds great through your setup.
You’re essentially paying for a bespoke Strat with this kind of guitar (or a Fender Masterbuilt, Tom Anderson, Hahn, LSL, Suhr custom, etc...). There’s a pride in ownership, like a Saville Row tailored suit, even though there’s arguably not a $2500 difference the way it sounds or plays between this kind of boutique guitar and an off the rack MIM Strat or Schecter (reflecting how good the factories have gotten overseas rather then a decline in American made guitars). That great rolled fretwork would be unlikely with a stock medium priced guitar, although you can find some.

Your choice of saddles is perfect. What players do not know is they are the only saddles that do not slide when you bend or do vibrato. The downward pressure from the string in effect makes them spread out and in effect lock. Because they have such little mass your sustain and tone comes from the wood not the saddle.Of course the irony is even the best ones are a fraction of the cost of the so called best. These 'best' are the best on a plywood body because all the tone and sustain is nothing but the bridge. NOTE: Leo was well aware of all this and was pissed when the marketers at Fender changed them. Trev Wilkinson did his own tests. He too found the same thing.

I'm sincerely surprised by the quality of the sounds, its playability (I trust you on this point) and the extreme versatility of this guitar. I didn't know. One can pair this with a good sounding versatile amp and for plenty of occasions you'd be good to go. I mean, I use a one trick pony guitar and an amp to match that description, so I need a bunch of gain pedals to color my sounds and help me with the dynamics. You have it all covered. I'm impressed!
Please don't take this bad, but I always felt like James Tyler could sell at least twice as many guitars if he would only change the shape of that headstock. I can't be the only one who fails to see the beauty of its design. However stupid it may seem, it's probably the only reason why I've never been tempted to pick one up.
I'm sorry, it ain't personal. Besides, just as you can make every guitar sound good, you can also make every guitar LOOK good. 😁
And man, I love your fusion licks! ❤️

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  Před 3 lety +2

Shawn! I love your playing and this guitar REALLY suits you. Do you offer any guitar course somewhere?

Amazing stuff Shawn! You play even better on it if that is at all possible. I tried a Tyler and the 59 neck is the best I have ever felt.

    Dear Wizard of the fretboard,
Please bestow your magic touch upon me.
This muggle is lacking in thy power.
Anywho, your trem work is perfect. Reminds me allot of Beck but with that sweet decorum of Landau.

Nice gesture from Tyler ! You deserve it ;-) Quite a breathtaking instrument tonewise and the matched headstock looks much less quirky than the natural one :) 59 profile and rolled fret edges: Home run !! The boost circuit is handy, but I rather use the one I have on my always on pedal (Super-Signa Drive by CmatMods...)

Thanks! Yes, the rolled fretboard edges are a great touch and it's that attention to detail that means a lot to me.
