2 things: 1. I can’t believe this video doesn’t have millions of views. 2. Dent is fascinating. Total paradigm shifter. Thank you for all the work you put into this video!!
Thank you Darren, I appreciate the feedback!

You are the best Mike! You just saved us so much research time and money! So grateful! Will be using Airlo for our trip to Southeast Asia! Half the price of other companies and may not have even known about this company before watching your video. Thank you so much!
How was airlo for you? Going to Thailand in a couple weeks
You literally had the best video out of all the ones I watched. Thank you for quick, thorough, & straight to the point info.
Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching!
This was the kind of video I was looking for! It’s been so useful. Thanks!
Thank you are Renzo!
Cool! I used airalo on my last trip to Europe, but this is great info about different options. Thanks for doing the leg work!
You’re welcome Julia!
Top video presentation. Straight talk and real information without the extra fluff. Thanks Mike.
Thank you for the feedback! I appreciate it.
Thank you so much Michael from Spain. What a great an useful video for people who travel around the globe.
Thank you, glad I was able to help!
Thank you for sharing your e-sim experience. It's informative. Your clear speech makes the watching easy. Good job!
Thank you! I appreciate the complement.
Great succinct and clear explanation Mike. Thanks for this video!
Thanks Mike! I appreciate the comment.
This is the video I was looking for!! Thank you, Mr. Vance. I'm heading to Europe (Western Europe) and while i won't be using an iPhone 14 i wanted to test the eSIM on my iPhone 13.
I went with Airalo myself but your commentary on Dent is very interesting! I like how they allow us to sell data back. That's innovative 🙂
Thank you so much for this information.
Apple should reach out to you, man. They only made a brief mention of eSIM availability for international travel, but your video is what we needed. Also love your straightforward, no-frills review style - it was like you were telling me what worked for you over a beer at a local bar (or coffee shop, if that's your jam).
Thank you for the comment and feedback!
How did it go with iPhone 13 ?
So happy I stumbled across this video. Heading to South Korea by myself in a month and wasn’t sure what to do for phone service. Really informative and interesting video. Cheers mate
Thanks Ben, I appreciate it!
Wow! I learned a lot from this video. Thanks for taking the time to compare and share.
You’re welcome! Happy to help, thanks for supporting my channel.
After almost an hour on the internet reading tons of useless articles, decided to check CZcams...and wow...what a great video! To the point and covered everything I wanted to know. If you haven't already, definitely do a short summary video for TikTok!
Thank you Kelly! I’m glad I was able to help.
What a useful video, thank you! since Apple announced only eSIM and no physical SIM slot on the US iPhone 14 models, I expect videos like yours will be getting more interest!
Thanks Craig!
@Ian actually it would be other way around but it depends on your use case. In a lot of parts of the world such as Africa there is limited eSim availability. If you are going to be somewhere you may need a physical SIM
@@scottscottsdale7868 in Croatia you can’t get the unlimited data plan without a SIM card

Thanks Rami!
Thanks SOOOO much! This was a lifesaver and you are very relaxing to listen to and watch. 💫Fantastic job.💫
I am going with Airalo to go with my Mint Mobile plan. I read one of the comments below and boy, does that help!
You’re very welcome! Thanks for the kind comment. Safe travels!
Why do you have to pair it with mint mobile? I have my US phone number imported into google voice
Thank you so much Michael! This is such a thorough and helpful review. I am in JFK headed to Poland and this was a life saver :)
No problem, happy to help. Safe travels!
Thank you for this information. I have been skeptical on this whole esim revolution but your simple explanation has helped me understand a tad bit of the nature and also app usage. Thank u
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching.
Impressive review. As a US based flight attendant I can tell you the struggles with service is real. I had T-Mobile and it was too slow or it would grind to a halt. Then, I had Google Fi and it was too expensive including domestically. Then, I combined Mint with Airalo and that hit the sweet spot. But now I will check out Dent since I’m in Europe about once a week. It will be a treat not to activate every month. With Mint the international data is expensive so I turn off the roaming and activate Airalo. Mint is the perfect marriage with one of these services as I get all the global advantages for less than 25 bucks a month.
I think Dent would work really well for you since you only have to install the eSIM once and your data will last for quite a while. Safe travels!
Thank you SOOO much for posting your comment! I have Mint and will be traveling to Asia very soon!
This comment is extremely helpful! I’m getting mint and planning to go to London. Thank you soooo much
Hi, I just need some clarification here. Why exactly do you partner Mint and Airolo? Why not just use Airolo by itself?
I had mint for my first trip to Colombia and was so disappointed in my service. Still had it when I went to Panama and asked my fellow travellers what they used, hence Im paying top dollar for google fi. Better service, at least I could use whatsapp in some areas. Heading back to Colombia for 90 days and will try an esim.
Thank you for this quick rundown of options. I’m just now looking into “how do I get my phone to work in European countries” 😂. Glad to know there are apps that provide you with eSIMs and that the Apple site’s option wasn’t the only one.
Glad I was able to help! Thanks for supporting the channel.
Thank you for putting this video up, I found it informative and helpful x
Thanks Barbara! I appreciate the feedback, glad you found what you were looking for.
Fantastic video. I appreciate that you broke down the criteria for your ratings and gave an honest appraisal of the different options. I'm going to try Dent! (already have Airalo)
I’m going to Scotland to London just for four days each, trying to decide between dent and airalo - any obvious reason to go one way or the other?
I’ve always used Airalo and found it simple and reliable. Good video though and interesting to see how other companies compare.
Thanks G T!
I have a question, im traveling to london france rome and vienna do i have to purchase for each country?
Sorry new at this lol
It’s still all pretty expensive compared to for example buying a sim in the country but it’s definitely handy ! Dent is awesomeness!
Your video was exactly what I was needing!! Thank you
Glad I was able to help Kevin!
Just what I needed, now I understand eSIM. Thank you. Clicking through your Airalo and Dent links now just in case :-
Thank you for the feedback Roniam!
Well explained in a calm and factual manner. Great info.😉
Thanks for watching!
This was super helpful!! Quick question, can you purchase the esim ahead of time, like a week ahead or is it better to purchase it once you land?
Thank you! I usually purchase one ahead of time so I can shop around for pricing, and then I activate it when I arrive.
You are a scholar and a gentleman. Thank you so much for this video. You likely saved me tons of money and hassle over trying to use AT&T international plan.
No problem, glad I was able to help! Safe travels.
Great explanation, you were so clear, i will follow your guidelines for my trips to Korea and Egypt. Thank you Michael!!
Thanks Carolina, safe travels! I bet Egypt will be great!
Hi Michael, I have a question for you. Just downloaded aíralo but my apple 11 iPhone says that does not work with the e sim from aíralo, what should I do?
I've come across Airalo by chance when traveling from Algiers to Istanbul and decided to go forward with it before my flight, paid like $18 for 10GB and can't recommend it enough, very satisfied with them!
Glad to hear it! Hope Istanbul was fun, I’ve only had layovers there but I’d love to visit. Thanks for watching!
Great video!! Very informative. I'm heading to France and Italy in a few weeks. Would you recommend getting separate plans on Airolo for each country or one plan for Europe?
Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback! I prefer using regional eSIMs. In the case of France and Italy, it will depend on how long you will be there and how much data you plan to use. They currently have a regional sim that would give you service in both countries (and anywhere in between) with 5gb for $20.
Hi michael I’m a seafarer and travel along Mediterranean most of the time. Which most italy france and turkey. What esim would you recommend in my case? Thanks pal more power to you
Great reviews! Thank you for doing this.
Thank you Gerhard!
Thanks Mike, especially for your opener! I am also a USMobile customer here in the States. I would have gone with them if it were not for your experience. Airalo is nearly double the fee but reliable coverage is paramount as we'll be 14 days working at university in Czechia and another 10 in Italia. Díky!
Thanks for making this video! DENT actually piqued my interest for a different reason than travel: supplementing domestic coverage. I don't need a TON of backup data, but would benefit from something that gives at least 1 GB of data for a year, specifically on the AT&T network (I have T-Mobile postpaid). All the options from traditional, domestic MVNOs cost a minimum of $100 a year which is SIGNIFICANTLY more money than the $9.99 that DENT charges. Granted, the latency on the domestic options are much better, but I'd say DENT's performance is more than adequate for the occasional T-Mobile no-signal-zone where having any connectivity at all is more important.
Thanks Ray! I’ve personally just been leaving my DENT sim on all the time as a backup to my US Mobile plan. It’s great for the times when I don’t get Verizon service somewhere and hardly costs anything. Thanks for the comment!
@@MichaelVance Nice, we think alike! But you get the best of all worlds: you get coverage on all 3 major U.S. carriers: Verizon, AT&T AND T-Mobile (since DENT can switch between AT&T and T-Mobile). It's just too bad being on Android (Samsung Fold4 specifically), we don't get automatic data fallback or call routing like iPhones have :(
Try one of those hot spots like sapphire. 4 of us were in it in Europe and we got 45 GB of data for 30 days. On a trip of 20 days we only used 28GB total and we had high speed internet in 8 plus countries. My friend just borrowed it for another trip. I can see the data usage on the app
Those are pretty cool and would be perfect if you are traveling with multiple people!
Great video. I have been looking for an alternative for my frequent travels and this was spot on. New subscriber. Thanks man!
Thank you! I appreciate it, safe travels!
Wow, one of the most helpful videos I've come across. It's just good information, thank you!
Glad I was able to help! I appreciate the complement, thanks for watching!
Using my countries ISP's (South Africa) they give me roaming data for R1 per MB, meaning 1GB of data would cost me R1000 ($60)
Thank you for this video 😊
Wow! That’s really expensive, glad I was able to help.
Great review. Used Dent's link though, and not only is it not 1GB anymore, it only shows 500MB when the signup page in the app encourages me to continue, but after going through all the setups, and setting up the eSIM I only have a 100MB balance showing up.
Thanks Michael! I think they may have decreased the amount of free data, I’ll update my link.
What a complete and quality review! I've just suscribed!
Thank you! Glad I was able to help!
thanks so much for this video! super helpful to nail down on which app to get for esim Michael, great content! could you also considering doing a review on different portable translator devices and your thoughts on them (ease of use, data plans, accuracy, etc)?
Thanks! That’s a good idea, I haven’t done much research there but I’ll look into it.
Hi Michael, great video!! Wondering if you experienced any challenges using any social media apps (Tiktok, Instagram, Snapchat etc) while using Airalo or Dent in Italy/Europe? I read that because they are routed through different countries, those apps can be blocked. Thanks again for the informative video!
Great question. I didn’t notice anything irregular, other than google search showing up in another language. It was easy to switch. But you are correct, the data will be routed through another country.
Thanks so much!! Once connected, is there a way to use a different provider? For example if you're in the US and you're automatically connected to Verizon, but you want to change to T Mobile? Is there a way to do this on the phone?
@@jessicaawong yes, depending on the phone you use you can have up to 10esim installed and also two active (iphone 13/14 series)
also add a decent vpn service to the mix if you want to be safe
Tried both Dent and Airalo at the same time on different phones. Dent was winning until I realised that on two occasions I had unauthorized use of my credit card just after buying a Dent package. Dent app was removed and Airalo wins
That’s strange, I’m sorry that happened to you. I haven’t noticed that personally, I’d be interested to know if other people have experienced that.
Hi Michael, I'm so glad I've found your channel in searching for a provider to use while traveling. Secondly, nice to know that you lived in Georgia before! We are a retired couple from Portland OR, and now living in Batumi, Georgia. We are loving our life here and can easily travel to Europe. Thank you for your hard work to help others!
You’re welcome! Thanks for supporting the channel. Batumi is a great place, lots of new construction!
Thanks for the useful information bro 🙌 keep up the good work!! 💪
Thank you!
Michael! What eSIM would you recommend for someone who is constantly travelling between US and Mexico? Since I could be out of USA up to 5 months I know google Fi suspend accounts if you are out more than a month or 2, i don't want to struggle with that.
You should check out the Visible+ plan. It’s $45/month but you would have unlimited talk, text, and data in the US and Mexico and they support eSIM.
One thing to keep in mind or be aware of is that for the most part none of these eSIM providers include voice or SMS, they are purely data. Which is a problem if you need to make or receive a phone call when abroad. Also, the data on these eSIMs might be routed in strange ways which can cause other problems. On a recent trip to Canada I used Airalo and data was routed through Poland which caused significant problems trying to access or login to certain websites which blocked traffic from Europe most likely because of GDPR (in that some US sites may choose to just outright block traffic instead of working to comply with GDPR regulations) or they may block traffic from suspicious organizations.
Thanks Mark! Excellent points all around.
@@corrado352 no! There's a time and place for proper calls!
@@gyadabouting I was going to answer the same thing. I'm glad you said that, because I'll count on it hahaha.
@@j_609 yes but unfortunately WhatsApp can only be used with wifi so that creates a problem,. unless, can we use WhatsApp on data only?

Great review! Thanks Michael.
Really great video! Just what I was looking for. Also the Dent marketplace looks to be very cool. Thanks for the information :)
No problem, glad I was able to help! Safe travels.
Since eSIMS are so likely to become such a large topic in the near(ish) future, will you be doing a video on dual SIM basics? eg. Can you get incoming calls on either at any time?
Hi John! If that’s something people are interested in, I’d be happy to cover it!
On iPhone (I don’t have an android to test) you can receive texts and calls from both and select which one you want to use per contact.
I use T-mobile magenta max. It definitely has international roaming with very few fees on with calls. To date I have used them in Peru, Spain, Portugal, England, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, France, Gibraltar, Honduras and of course the entire USA. Speed was acceptable 4G. (not 3G). You should check with your carrier.
Hi MrCfredrickson, I agree. T-Mobile’s international options can work really well. I used them on a trip to Mexico a few years ago, but at the time it was just 3G. I imagine things have improved quite a bit in the past 5 years. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I barely got 2g when using T-Mobile in Vietnam. 🥲
Thanks bro! .. this video is very helpful. 🙌
solid video. so well explained, you are a great content creator
It's worth knowing that in the EU if you get a SIM in one country (by EU law) you can use it in every other EU country. I can't see any of these eSIMs offering this. So if your landing in an EU country and traveling to a few more might be worth getting a physical pay as you go/pre paid SIM card. You can get 10gb, for 30days, for €10 in places like France by buying a local SIM
That’s good advice Aaron, I didn’t know that the EU had done that.
Not true.. I have had service from Aldi and the Netto... Both use ENets. They are prepay and only were good in Germany. I Bought Vodafone Callya prepay.. And its make calls were included for Germany but cost elsewhere in Europe however the Data and inbound was free in the rest of Europe.... Also inbound texts are roam free globally (i get my i bound 2fa for my bank when in Canada and US.. And my number never expires.. Even when i have not topped up for two years.
plan for e sim are not cheap in many countries, thats why people prefer the classic providers sim at the airport e.g Melbourne Australia 7 providers at the airport and you get a monthly plan 4g for 30 aud which is cheap(unlimited calls and 20gb)
In Australia an ALDI SIM card works well if one actually wants a physical SIM card.
Nice descriptions of apps, thanks man !
No problem, thanks for watching!
2 Things:1. You have to call your US carrier and ask to have your phone is unlocked if you
don't own it outright. T-Mobile, iPhone 14 pro, just informed me of this. 2. Great Video
Good point! I should have mentioned that your device needs to be unlocked for this to work.
Thanks for that! I just unlocked mine!
This is great. What if you need to make a landline or mobile call in the local country. What's the best app to use? Trying to avoid buying a sim in the local country as well as be up and running as soon as I land.
If you’re American US citizen you can import your phone number to google voice and make and receive calls to the US via your laptop/iPad. You can receive and send texts on your phone via data on google voice, but can’t make and receive calls on your phone
I use Skype or What’s Up App. Skype app - not free but cheap per minute and it works.
There's Skype and WhatsApp, too.
Thank you so much for all this information! Amazing content!
