  • Come join Zelda as she shows you how to make a Kiwi classic, and one of her favourite things to cook - Sweetcorn Fritters!
Here's the recipe from the Edmonds Cookbook, though do note that in the video Zelda made a double batch:
    3/4 cup plain flour
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    black pepper
    1 egg
    440 g can cream-style corn
    2 tablespoons oil
Sift flour, baking powder, salt and pepper to taste into a bowl. Add egg, mixing to combine. Stir in sweetcorn. Heat oil in a frying pan. Drop tablespoonsful of corn mixture into pan. Cook until golden then turn and cook other side. Drain on absorbent paper. Serve hot.
    Serves 4-6
Thanks to Granny [Penelope - see our other videos!] for the use of her kitchen!

Oh wow - that's pretty fascinating! Do you have ambitions to join them / find them to be very welcoming of outsiders? Several years ago I was fortunate enough to spend a couple of days with Willard Martin (who was, just up until his very recent retirement, considered to be the best 'Crokinole' board craftsman - you can see the girls playing crokinole at the beginning of this video: czcams.com/video/yW1OBDgCLIg/video.html) and he showed me around the Mennonite/Amish community near where he lived in Ontario, Canada. His parents had "bought a car" when he was a small boy (both literally, and a euphemism for leaving the stricter of the Mennonite branches), but he still spoke their German, and took us to meet many fascinating people during our visit with him. While I has no desire to become Amish (you get more of a feel of where I am coming from in the above video 😂) - I do have a lot of respect for them, and came away from that visit very inspired. The thing that impressed me the most was seeing their farms, and realising that they were not merely farms: the home also had one or more large sheds nearby, and some kind of adjacent industry was going on in them. Also gained insight into how they structured some things financially that I found fascinating, and how if a younger man was struggling in his business, the elders would step in in a very hands on way with mentorship and get him on the right track - even if it was making sure he was rising early enough, and so on!
I wish you well in your endeavours 🧡🔥

This is so cute. Thank you to the parents for modeling such activities to their children. As well as supporting and encouraging them. This empowers and builds their self confidence. It pays off in the long run.
