    I go over how to create heat waves in Adobe After Effects. These are really fun and pretty easy to create. They can be added to things like fire, or to make a scene seem hotter.

    If it does not work for you after being applied, try swithching from "Source" to -> "Effects and Masks" in "Displacement Map Layer" option.
    Thank you for the tutor!

    Great method. The lense flare should be applied afterwards: wouldn't distort in real life since it is "in" the camera. ;-)

    If it doesn't work, try to increase the value for horizontal displace.

    it doesnt work for me. The screen is just filled with Red particles flying up, the base picture isnt distorted at all, its just the red particles flying up

      ohh nevermind, after rewatching you do it like 20x i realized i was dragging displacement map into the particles not the picture footage.... good one brain

    is it possible for me to use the effect on a picture instead of my footage to create a sort of 'gif', or if i can put the heat waves on top of invisable footage so it works too?

    Any idea how to make it slower? I've tried playing around with the velocity, resistance, gravity, just about everything and I can't get it to calm down & move slower

    • @pjlierman
      @pjlierman Před 5 lety

      You could always right click the heat map precomp and select time stretch and just play around with the speed of the precomp itself. Probably a little simpler than messing with settings on the particle world

  • @BeyerKids2
    @BeyerKids2 Před 4 lety

    I'm doing this with some graphics and it's almost making a pattern. Any way to avoid this?

    • @AdobeMastersOfficial
      @AdobeMastersOfficial  Před 4 lety

      Hmm potentially this is only happening in the view of your production so that you can see it in full time. I would try rendering it out, and seeing if the patterns are still there.

  • @wvttz_
    @wvttz_ Před 5 lety

    Why won't my particles go away when I put my footage layer above it? It stays on top.

    • @abhijeetjsawant
      @abhijeetjsawant Před 5 lety +1

      Either your footage layer's opacity is not set to 100 or the layer has a blending mode which is not set to 'normal'.
      In any case, once you apply the displacement to the footage, you can hide the 'map pre-compose layer' and the heat wave effect should still work.

    • @joycees
      @joycees Před 5 lety +1

      Did you uncheck the eyeball by accident? or maybe you have a layer mode turned on?

    Thank you. For some reason the waves are only affecting a specific area of the photo, not the whole thing. Any ideas why?

    • @jagotato
      @jagotato Před 4 lety

      Because your particles are no covering all the photo.
