  • For A level physics students to collect data to investigate, using a search coil and oscilloscope, the effect on magnetic flux linkage of varying the angle between a search coil and magnetic field direction.
Helmholtz coils produce a uniform magnetic field along the axis of the coils. Two identical coils of radius r are aligned, separated by r.
Here we are using A.C. in the coils to produce an alternating magnetic (B) field.
The search coil is placed in the centre of the Helmholtz coils, and an EMF is induced in the search coil by the varying B-field.
Measure the peak to peak search coil EMF as the angle between its axis and the B-field is varied.
    rms voltage = (p-p voltage)/(2√2)
