    I love that you fast forward but still show you performing the step/action! So many videos I find either waste so much time showing basically 1 simple, but painstaking thing, or worse assume every viewer must know how to perform certain aspects and gloss over or omit them completely! I didn't find exactly the info I am looking for, but still felt my time wasn't wasted. Thanks!

    It is a good testimonial that it took 5y to break. The trend I have noticed is if you buy a replacement, the expected life is shorter. Excellent video, thank you for sharing.

    I think AvE did a video on a similar unit, with a leaky pump that he rebuilt. If you've never come across his channel before I highly recommend! He does a lot of tool teardowns that are very informative, and entertaining... us Canucks don't get much sun, does funny things to the sense of humour I guess 😂 I can't tell ya how many times I've fixed mine or family's home appliances with nothing more than a simple blown fuse.

      I looked into rebuilding that pump but a replacement cost more than replacing the entire sprayer. I now use model# 257025 and am better about using pump armor after every use and I love it. Glad the video helped keep your going!

      @@AustinCoulson Thank you so much. I know The pumps aren't a rebuildable item. But I did notice there is a sleeve inside the bore where the piston moves. We will be using a borescope to go into the piston bore to get a closer look down inside? Also on my units I use a 50/50 mixture of mineral spirits and motor oil or hydraulic fluid to to store the sprayers. Great talking! THX.

    Once the little piston wears you have to replace the whole thing. Not worth it on those because it’s just a different style of diaphragm pump the way it works because something else always goes out on them.they really are throwaway pumps but graco has gone to that style to satisfy homeowner cheap uses. I think they fill a niche. I repair the more durable types. I always have pumps made from spare parts laying around. Diamond dust can refresh carbide seats. Stay under 20 microns.

    • @AustinCoulson
      @AustinCoulson  Před 3 lety

      Good to know. Since this is such a cheap unit, I am not surprised about the piston wear causing this to become a throwaway pump. It's way past its life expectancy already

  • @alwayslookonthelightsideof2268

    thanks great video - in teresting it has a 250 V 10 A fuse - even though it is being used in the USA with 110V? does that mean the motor can be used with 240V safely over here? Im having a problem with the valve assembly - the motor works but there is no suction at all from the pick up tube even using the prime setting and the overflow tube? can anyone help me? thanks

    My x5 the other day made a grinding noise I never heard and then a bunch of tiny ball bearings fell out of the bottom. I'm guessing that bearing seal wen out. I'm wondering if it's dill coming on and the motor is trying to run should I just get the bearing. What do you think?

  • @KeyserSoseRulz
    @KeyserSoseRulz Před 3 lety +1

    Built in obsolescence? One would expect a bearing to last longer. But what do I know.

    • @AustinCoulson
      @AustinCoulson  Před 3 lety +2

      That poor bearing lives in a tough environment, where it turns on and off constantly for maybe an hour or two then sits for long stretches. I think when the pump seal started to leak, the inside of the machine got humid from the water in the paint and it rusted while in storage.

    I’m fairly certain I have the exact same problem. Is the bearing supposed to be able to spin if it is functioning normally? Mine does not move. I replaced the fuse and the pump turned on only for it to blow another fuse within two seconds.

    • @AustinCoulson
      @AustinCoulson  Před 4 měsíci

    That's awesome, you saved yourself a few hundred bucks, but how long did that take you?

    • @AustinCoulson
      @AustinCoulson  Před 3 lety +4

      The bearing was about 30 min with disassembly, the fuse with soldering and reassembly was probably an hour. Filming probably added an hour or two and editing another hour or so. Probably not worth it considering the pump will still need work at some point and the gun is actually passed its rated life by about 50% already, but I did learn a little bit, so there is value there.

    • @nickd576
      @nickd576 Před 3 lety +1

      @@AustinCoulson I'm sure the bearing you used was better then factory, and you made the fuse user serviceable as well. So if you look at it from that perspective, if it happens again it'll go much quicker.

    • @AustinCoulson
      @AustinCoulson  Před 2 lety

      If I remember right, the leak was on the pump module a new module cost more than a new paint sprayer so I gave this sprayer to a buddy of mine and bought a new one about 6 months after making this video. He does a lot less painting than I do so it still works, but still leaks.

    What is the function of the bearing? I'm asking because my pump works fine but it has a leak exactly were the bearing is. Do you think the leak would get fixed if I replace the bearing?

    • @AustinCoulson
      @AustinCoulson  Před 2 lety +1

      I had a similar leak, which is what caused the bearing to fail I think, and found that the pump is non serviceable on this model and replacement costs more than a new unit. I used it with the leak until it got worse, then got a new unit.

      @@AustinCoulson thanks for letting me know. I had bought 3 of them for $50 for all 3. The guy that sold it them said they didn't work but they did, They were not running because they had dry paint from not being cleaned. I took them apart, clean them, I practically made them look brand new but one of them does have a leak and didn't know how to fix that. I sold two of them them for $150 each. Great vid. Hey what model is that sprayer? I’ve got a magnum x7 and graco had told me they aren’t rebuildable. I just acquired an older magnum XR9 that needs some work but from everything I’ve seen the xr9 is a rebuildable unit so that’s why I agreed to take it.

    • @AustinCoulson
      @AustinCoulson  Před 2 lety +1

      Here is the new version: amzn.to/3sp9VSO
      The one in the video is a 257025 and I don't think they make it anymore. I was told this gun wasn't rebuildable either but everything except the pump can be rebuilt and the pump costs more on its own than the entire setup.

    • @wyattsdad8561
      @wyattsdad8561 Před 2 lety

      @@AustinCoulson okay it’s the x5 that is basically what you’ve got. I’ve got an x7 that I bought new about two years ago and I worry that I’m gonna wear it out. I have a handyman business and I don’t use it every day but I do use it kind of a lot. I think I heard the pump in the x5 and x7 can’t just be rebuilt. I heard you have to replace the whole pump and manifold which i guess is kind of expensive, almost as much as a brand new unit.
      I’m working on a graco xr9 that I got for free, and the reason I accepted it was because all the parts are rebuildable. I just ordered a new piston and cylinder for it and I’ve been trying to find a video of how to replace the little pump. I just replaced the pressure knob which was over a hundred dollars but i still think this xr9 is worth putting some money into and rebuilding solely because it can be rebuilt and the parts are available.
      I was hoping you had some pump replacement suggestions??
      Anywhooo thanks for sharing your work.
