I like how they sent kakuzu on an impossible mission, did better than any of the people that sent him would have and somehow he got exiled.

@@thorthane3674more than likely Hashirama did fight him but after seeing he was so much weaker than him even before Sage Mode, along with possibly sending a message to those willing to try another assassination, he allowed Kakuzu to live and return to his village to spread this message. To not f**k with the Leaf Village and expect victory easily.
@@Aaroncarter95 Or Kakuzu could have already had the earth grudge forbidden jutsu for the battle - probably given to him specifically for it - and used it to survive without Hashirama knowing. I don't remember if the order of him acquiring the jutsu vs his failed mission was ever specified.
What I assumed probably happened was he was exiled, BECAUSE he failed the mission. Taki likely did so to "appease" Hashirama by punishing his would be assassin, so that Taki could avoid retribution for the assassination attempt. Pretty sure that's a common real world practice for assassins, where when they fail they are excommunicated to wipe away blame.
Or kakuzu was too greedy that he constantly demanded higher fees, so they just made up a mission so impossible that they would have a reason to kick him out.
Edo Tensei requires a living sacrifice, it doesn’t use a dead body. The person used as the sacrifice dies after the technique is used which is why when the technique is dispelled a corpse is left behind where the revived person was.

Ngl the part you forgot about Deidara’s Kinjutsu is that it doesn’t just weave chakra into the clay. But chakra NATURE. You can have an army of Lightning birds kamikazing or shooting down towards the opponents. You can have a fire breathing bear, a flying wind monkey.
It allows you to use your chakra from a distance in said clay. It’s actually quite useful that way
Edo Tensei is absurd; the fact that it was invented by someone who didn't have a Kekkai Genkai, Dojutsu, nor were they a Jinchuuriki, is insane. It is, without exception, the most impressive feat ever achieved by a "normal" shinobi.
Tobirama is a genius of the senju clan who were exceptional themselves and he was even stronger among them he's absolutely not a normal shinobi.

Kakuzu was the real bossfight of the show imo. Along with Hidan there came to be such a fighting force that while not unbeatable they had become practically unkillable among their peers and the vast majority of the shinobi forces. Imagine, if Hidan was level headed and calculating like Kakuzu that last fight in the desert would have been a mere slaughter. Another factor was his age. "Fear the man who has lived long in a world where people don't."

25:00 I don't think the Reaper Death Seal works like that. There are only two times when the RDS didn't work as intended, With Hiruzen vs. Orochimaru and Minato vs. 9 tails. However, both those were special cases.
Hiruzen would've easily had taken Orochimarus soul (after already taking away Hashi and Tobi's souls) had Orochi not stabbed him. So, it ended up being a tug-of-war that Hiruzen lost, simply because of his old age making that wound too difficult to fight with. We see this because the RDS begins failing every time the sword inches deeper.
As far as Minato vs. 9 tails, I'm pretty sure he implied that he could have sealed the 9-tails in him, but he wanted to make sure that it could be used for when Tobi/Obito returned. However, he couldn't seal it all in Naruto (because he was a baby), so the RDS was used for the ability to split the 9-tails chakra the way he wanted (rather than having to split the 9 tails BECAUSE he used the RDS). Even if we ignore that, the logic of having "equivalent chakra/soul levels" wouldn't make sense since this implies Minato has the same level of Chakra as the 9-tails and that Hiruzen, in his old age after being pushed to the limit of only being able to create 3 clones, somehow had as much chakra-soul levels as Hashi, Tobi, and Orochimaru. (I know Hashi and Tobi were edo, but they do have their original souls).

Edo Tensei has one more negative:
If the person you reanimate isn't being directly controlled by you, like you've given them a directive instead of having complete control of them, if they know the technique themselves, they can release the technique, which removes all control you had over them while keeping their reanimated body and all the positives that come with it.
I believe Madara did just that to break the control over him.

@@hammerstix5791no, you’re absolutely right. Those that find closure can dispel the Jutsu by reaching such a strong opposition emotionally to the Jutsu with the equal dispelling of the original final regrets of the deceased.
If I remember correctly a Bijuu Blast from Kurama under Obito's control was able to wipe out a whole line of buildings without actually touching them. Just flying close to the ground was apparently enough to wipe out dozens of buildings. Yea I'm certain if Kurama wanted to he could've easily destroyed a village.

What strikes me as odd, in regards to rinne rebirth, it supposedly only brings people back who have died recently. Yet, madara states that his original plan with obito is for him to have nagato use it to bring him back. Despite being dead since obito was a teenager.
It's because it can work either way, it seems that that longer then person was dead for the harder or more chakra it would consume to revive them. It's never stated that it can only bring back recently deceased, that was only what Nagato was able to pull off because of his heavily weakened state.

It's a plot hole. There was no plan for Madara to be revived as an edo tensei, Kishimoto added it to limit the power of the rinne tensei but it broke an important subplot

Plus for edo tensei, if the caster releases the jutsu, but you know the hand sign, you can just override that and keep staying in your edo tensei body.
A little bit of my own head canon I always think is: forbidden jutsus are not illegal to use. But they are on theory forbidden because one should not teach then to others because the reasons mentioned in the video (to why they are "forbidden"). So I always think that you can use them with little to no consequences, however they are taboo or should not be taught to others

Coming here 1 year later to say I agree, that was my original thoughts on "Forbidden Jutsu", the world of naruto is full of people killing each for silly reasons and death punishment is very much a thing, if they really wanted someone to not use a jutsu they would just straight up kill the person instead of telling them to not do it. I'm pretty sure Forbidden Jutsu means "hey, that ability is cool and is beneficial for our country and all, but since it has a 9/10 death chance for anyone who uses it, maybe dont teach it to no kid aight?". And the rule does stand up really well, the only cases we see of people learning forbidden jutsu is by Kekkei Genkai (like the uchiha's Unlimited BS-Busted Jutsus), learning it through stolen scrolls, or the Kage themselves (the ones who forbid jutsus, and SHOULD be punishing people for learning them) teach someone they deem worthy, like Tsunade with Sakura.
Naruto never got punished for stealing the scroll bc Hiruzen's unrelliable ahh decided to turn a blind eye again, the guy who should certify no forbidden jutsu is passed down, and who should be caring for the 4th son, and not letting him learn a type of technique know for killing its user 💀

reaper death seal was even more busted for the uzumaki clan. they did have the mask that allowed orochimaru to open the reapers stomach to retrieve the souls of the first second fourth and his arms, they could sacrifice enemies to the death god to bring back their comrades souls if they desired. kind of scary.

Deidara's kinjutsu likely *violated the laws of the natural world* by creating life out of lifeless detonating clay. Things like those grasshoppers that stuck to Kakashi's shadow clone, which would move a set distance to prevent him from moving forward, thus separating him from Naruto during the kazekage retrieval arc.
But it controlled by the person who created the thing so it's kind of like the clone jutsus and their are a lot of them the shadows clone have more potential to be actual living things so I guess the thing you create using the hidden stone kinjutsu are remote controlled and not actually alive so it's probably forbidden for changing your anatomy I guess, God bless 🙏
I think “restricted” would probably be more of an accurate description. They’re dangerous to use but if you can (apart from say, fury) you generally don’t seem to face consequences.

So similar to what George Carlin says about the ten commandments, four of the reasons that jutsus become forbidden are all just, if it hurts the user... One was just that, another was if it sacrifices the user, another was it takes too much chakra (which can hurt or kill the user), and another was it makes the user blind or sacrifices the sharingan eye of the user... All of which are one reason, it hurts the user lol.
Yes and no, mostly just the toll. Edo Tensei doesn't hurt the user but it does require a living sacrifice. So not so much just does it hurt the user but also "is there collateral damage to someone living in order to hurt the target". Because you might not always be 1vs2 when you use Edo Tensei, you might be 2vs1 and you gotta explain why your buddy didn't make it back.

George Carlin points out that the ten commandments are easily broken down into like 4 or something, for example "thou shall not steal" and "thou shall not bare false witness" are both just "be honest" or "thou shall not deceive".

It's possible that rinne tensei can revive not only those who died recently, e.g. Madara was dead for more than 16 years and still got resurrected. The reason why Nagato revived those who died recently is that he gave back only those life he has taken

What about Rasen-Ringu or Dai-Rasen-Ringu from Menma? The ability is like using a Tailed Beast Bomb from Kurama but unlike those, he can just spam them repeatedly without charge time and it takes little to no time to form them, Menma was able to entirely annihilate Konoha in one go and then went on to fight Sage Naruto multiple times and played around with him the entire time.
Well it wasn't labelled as a forbidden jutsu.
It was, it's a forbidden Jutsu that has the power to wipe entire villages off the map and it entirely destroys everything, not even leaving any wrecked buildings like Shinra Tensei did.
It's more that the jutsu itself might have dangerous consecuences for the user or is too gruesome. Like the mass shadow clone could dry you of energy in one go or kakuzu became a tentacle man. Mind, it could be forbidden to keep other villages from raising your threat for exploiting a technique that is too good.
Hiruzen's use of Reaper Death Seal throws so many wrenches in the rules of the jutsu.
For one thing, he created two Shadow Clones after casting it, which each were able to seal an enemy BEFORE Hiruzen finished sealing Orochimaru. So that means you can seal multiple people at once with it (provided you have the chakra to do so), but also if a clone does it and then poofs, is that thing actually sealed in YOU? Or just the belly of the Shinigami? Does that mean you can just continually seal people in your body with it over and over, provided you have more chakra than what you're sealing? Busted.
But ALSO, let's remember who Hiruzen sealed with it. Orochimaru's hands, obviously, but also TOBIRAMA AND HASHIRAMA. WITH SHADOW CLONES. Which would mean, based on the rules of Shadow Clones and Reaper Death Seal, that a THIRD of Hiruzen's chakra, AFTER fighting the 3 of them, AT 70-ISH YEARS OLD, was comparable to Hashirama. But that amount was somehow not enough to get more than Orochimaru's arms? I mean, I guess the Sword of Kusanagi WAS in his abdomen and it may have some chakra-siphoning abilities, but like. That still means that Hiruzen AT 70 had more than 3 TIMES Hashirama's chakra. HOW?!?!
The only thing i could think of the explain the chakra is that already orichimarus edo tensei was far from perfect only resuerrecting the hokage with a small fraction of theyre full power. And in addition hiruzen seal hashirama first then tobirama, then only had enough left for orachimarus arms. So its not 3x hashiramas chakra its more like 1/4 of hashirama and tobiramas chakra, plus just enough to take out orichimarus arms left over.
And the trick with using reaper death seal with shadow clones is shadow clones evenenly divids your chakra, so if you create a shadow clone with half your chakra and you reaper death seal that half of your chakra will never come back, essentially halfing your chakra pool each time.
The issue with these two most popular theories is that they cant both be true. If chakra was divided evenly between all clones then the 2 hiruzen created both had a third of his chakra. So he couldnt just dedicate more chakra to sealing hashirama first he was limited at a third still.
Finally my personal head cannon theory is that while madara could break out of control of his edo tensei since it wasnt a full control edo and the ones of the first hokage were full control. So while they couldnt break out of the control when they got reaper death sealed they may have been able to even force theyre chakra into the shinigami. I think they could do this simce they can still talk and are taking hiruzens side, showing that while edo tensei gives orichimaru full physical control, they still have theyre own will, conscious, and this spirit. A spirit that would definitely not try to fight hiruzen the way orachimaru was. Leading them to get sealed what looks like super quickly and easily because in theory they kinda jumped into the shinigamis stomach willingly when they seen it.

For sure, the largest chakra expenditure we see from Orochimaru's Edo Tensei'd Hashirama is him using Deep Forest Emergence, but that jutsu is small potatoes compared to what we see Hashirama pull off in his original fight with Madara. I think you're right that Orochimaru himself admits he hasn't fully mastered the jutsu during the fight with Hiruzen, and tbh I don't think Orochimaru would have been able to erase Hashirama or Tobirama's personalities with the sealing tags had they been a full power, so they MUST have been in a weakened state.
That brings up an interesting question though; if Hashirama and Tobirama only had access to a small portion of their chakra in that form, is that because the bodies they were put into simply couldn't handle the amount of chakra they had at one time, or because only a portion of their chakra had been recalled from the Pure Lands? And if it's the latter, what does that mean in regards for the Reaper Death Seal, since a portion of their chakra was sealed away but the majority remained in the Pure Lands?
As for Madara, I do like your theory, but I have an additional piece to add after seeing @NCHammer23's "Madara's Mangekyo Sharingan Explained" video. It's my belief that while one of Madara's eyes had the ability to distinguish clones from the original, like Nick says, I believe his OTHER eye had the ability understand jutsu fundamentally at a glance. It explains why we see Madara instantly being able to use abilities he'd never had access to prior, such as Hashirama's Wood Style or Obito's Kamui, but would ALSO explain why he was such a terrifying opponent because if you understand a jutsu in one glance, you can find a way to counter it from there.
Using such a Sharingan power on Kabuto's Edo Tensei (which we know Madara hadn't seen beforehand because when he was resurrected he believed it had been done with Rinne Rebirth like he planned) would allow him to understand that utsu was self-perpetuating after being cast, and the only thing shackling him to Kabuto was a kind of genjutsu which, if you know Sharingan, would have been child's play for an Uchiha to remove. So to combine it with your idea, it was Madara's MS ability that allowed him to break out of the Edo Tensei, but he was only able to do that BECAUSE he had not been put under full personality control by Kabuto.

When it comes to the Rasenshurriken it was only considered a forbidden jutsu cause of the damage he took when using it while holding it. After he infuses sage chakra he's able to thorw it and not take that damage
Sound 4 just have regular Curse Marks/Cursed Seals. Only Sasuke, Kimimaro, and I think Anko have special seals.
EDIT: Also the 10% success rate was for Curse Marks in general, not the Heaven and Earth Seals.
Yeah the thing some people don't seem to get is that if only 1 person can use a jutsu effectively that......doesn't make it a good one to have. The body swapping jutsu orochimaru used is a prime example of it. Works great for him not so much for literally anybody else
I love all your videos! I have a head scratcher for you though. If Hiruzen made 2 shadow clones in this fight with Orochimaru, each one had 1/3 of his charkra, which each used Reaper Death seal on Edo Tobirama and Hashirama. If you can only pull out as much chakra as you have (i.e. why Hiruzen could only pull out Orochimaru's arms), how did he pull out the entirety of Tobirama and Hashirama? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

well it was stated the edo tensei were a lot weaker when orchimaru summoned it, could possibly mean chakra reserves weren't crazy high , but due to being edo tensei their chakra just regens. Madara could probably pop off crazy jutsu due to kabuto putting alot more work/chakra into him.
In all thats just a in canon way of explaining it, as you can probably tell, the 1st hokage and senju's in general got a big bump from part 1 to shippuden. For example Hirzuen used to be stated as the strongest hokage and thats obviously been retcon'd
Pretty sure at some point down the road somebody (i think Kabuto, but don't know for sure) says that Orochimaru didn't have Edo tensei perfected/didn't fully understand it. so the Hashirama and Tobirama that were brought back in the Konoha crush arc were only at like 20-25 percent of their original power level

For edo tensei I don't think it has to be recently as nagato was supposed to use it to bring back madara when the final part of his plan was in motion.
I think the reason the Razen Shuriken is a kinjutsu is cause when it’s a melee attack it back flows onto you upon impact but the throwable variants are extra stable to be throwable so there’s no back flow circumventing the part that made it a kinjutsu allow it’s use.

Something has just occured to me. Hiruzen could have sealed Orochimaru completely, but then he would have two "invulnerable zombies" to fight, so he chose to seal the two previous hokage and try to seal as much of Orochimaru as he could with what he had left of his chakra. Another thing is the use of shadow clones. Does it work the same way as experience, exhaustion etc. works that it returns to the original? If so, there is no plot hole with the first thing I wrote, but it still feels weird. However, there is also a possibility, since the reaper should be tied to the user's soul, that the shadow clones shouldn't work, so if they do, wouldn't it be possible to just send a clone to seal someone? Imagine Naruto just sealing the entirety of the forces he had to face in the war.
I’m not thinking too deeply, nor reading too in depth, but I’ve always seen it as him using the shadow clones as a medium for the reaper to nab 1st and 2nd while Hiruzen saved himself for Orochimaru.
Those parts of hiruzens Chakra were sealed with the souls of hashirama and tobirama in the belly of the shinigami. He could never have gotten that Chakra back even if he'd somehow survived using RDS.

Izanagi really isn't worth it for an Uchiha as it takes away your ability to use Mangekyo Jutsu like Susanoo. Danzo spammed it because he had no respect for the eyes that weren't his own. That said could you imagine if someone were able to spam it endlessly through their eyes being repeatedly fixed every time they used Izanagi?
If donzo got ahold of the hidden stone forbidden jutsu (or any strong wind style user) they'd be able to kneed their chakra into the air and in donzos case make extremely powerful vacuum bullets

The reni rebirth is very simple, the reason it can bring a recent dead person bad is not the way u actually see it, it actually work if the body of the dead is in good condition to houses a soul, so if you can bring back a million year old man and rejuvenate his or her body near to human like status, then the reni rebirth should be able to bring them back to life by returning their soul to the body.
A slight correction for the shadow clone jutsu. It doesn't divide the chakra evenly. It summons a weaker version of the caster with a smaller amount of Chakra, that's why Naruto is so proficient, as it doesnt cost him much, and every clone has in average more Chakra than whoever he is facing.

I get that it never worked this way in the arc - at least I don't think that it did, I'd have to go reread it, though I don't think anyone went behind him and sealed any of his earlier kills with it - but couldn't Naruto theoretically use Rasenshuriken to cut the connections of the edo tensei'd particles from the chakra keeping them bound together, if he used it right?
