- Hi folks, NatNomad here. An ex-Buddhist monk from Laos with a big dream of seeing the world. Throughout my time for over 10 years being a monk I kept asking myself one question "What life is like out there beyond the monastery?" and because of this question alone made me take a big step in 2014 when I finally said goodbye to my wonderful monastic life.
And now I'm doing what I've always wanted to do. Though I am not quite sure if I can say that I'm living my dream but you know what I'm loving my new adventure.
Please make sure to stick with me so we can explore new exotic places together.
Let the adventure begins!
Thanks so much for your support.
Sabaidee Nat, some similarities of the Lao weddings with the old Italian weddings when the groom's parents have to give a kind of compensation to the bride's parents!
And the priests were very much consulted before, during and after the weddings.
And the nice and long receptions before the ceremony and the big parties after the weddings.
And the women's roles in the families.
Well, nowadays lots of traditions and family roles have changed...
Nice and very informative video again, thanks dear friend!
How similar 😊
very nice thank you Nat for making a nice Vedeo 😍
Thank you, Nat for an informative and insightful video. It was good to hear the explanation for the dowry money otherwise it would seem the bride was being bought from her parents. As foreigners, it's not often we get to see village life and even more rarely a wedding in the village. 🙏PS- I didn't sense you were tipsy.. camera hand was very steady!👍
I'm happy you enjoyed the video. This is something that doesn't happen often, such an honor to be able to join this beautiful ceremony.
The feeling tipsy goes away quickly enough so i was able to film the videos.
What I love the most = I know it is strange observation - but the flower arrangements throughout... Im sure flower arrangements are not only for aesthetics, but are symbolic in Bhuddist culture .... love this video. While I was traveling Laos in October 2018 , I walked into a Lao wedding and followed the group (the groom and his group) and enjoyed the same for about 1/2 hour. A beautiful day as well.
I'm glad you got to experience a Lao wedding party during your visit. All these tiny bit has their own meaning. Quite fascinating indeed.
Khop jai lai der for the info! 🙏🏽😊 This is really helpful. I'm trying to create a timeline for my Lao wedding ceremony and you explained it really well.Thank you 🇱🇦
I'm glad you find it useful. Good luck with your wedding ceremony.
Wow so Deep
At 2:00, there are two bundle of Chinese RMB
Yes Chinese Yuan are also accepted as well as Thai Baht and USD.
Dowry price is it exclusive the money for party?
Yes, money for organizing the event is extra
How much is the dowry for the bride’s family and what other requirements to be met?
It all depends on the status of the women's family or the agreement from her parents. The cash starts from 20-100 million Kip or more. The gold like necklace and bracelet is separately.
@@natnomad thanks for your reply!
Now, is there any type of formal documentation on file for proof? In my situation, I plan on marrying a special lady and bring her back to the States.
Proof of what? the dowry?
She should be able to tell you what the tradition is like.
Sabaidee ! T u n 'es pas difficile tu manges tout bravo
Hehe, go with the flow😊
Watching this to get the mood, I'm going to marry my Lao girlfriend next year
Sure, why not😊
Look like overall money u need is 20,000k dollar or more? This is expensive consider to other country..
It's not that bad. It all depends on the status of the women's family, too. The richer the family is, the more downry they expect from the groom's family
Way too much work LOL
