Join me in Derbyshire as we follow the beautiful chesterfield canal as the restoration continues in the west, aiming to plug the gap and join the rest of the restored Chesterfield Canal as it winds its way down to the River Trent.
Today we start at New Lane Bridge and Wheeldon Mill lock and work our way down towards Chesterfield Centre. We take in Station Road Bridge, Several railway Bridges, Locked Lane Bridge, Tipton Lock, Tapton Tunnel and the visitor centre. As we approach Chesterfield it's clear to see how beneficial the canal is to nature and the environment as the beautiful blue and green corridor enhances the city scene.
Down at Chesterfield Waterside we look at the current progress and future plans of the massive development bringing houses, business and the canal to the city centre near to the Railway station

Great to know the council are so on-board with the canal as a big part of future development... Oh, and big congrats and well deserved on getting 10K subs Steve..! Brilliant.! 😃
Thanks! I can’t believe I made it
Kennet and avon, huddersfield narrow, rochdale. Yes these things can be done. Chesterfield is well on the way. Thames and severn awaited.
Cotswold to Stroud Brewery will be done first, Chesterfield will be done second, Lichfield to fosseway Heath third. Monty may slip in there to the welsh border but I think joined to the section further down maybe 4th
Cotswold - 9 miles
Chesterfield - 9 miles
Lichfield - 3.5 miles
Monty - around 25 miles although I’m unsure how much is in water and not I think it’s about 18 miles once the middle bit is done which is largely funded
Great news having the canal basin as part of a waterside developmen in Chesterfield.. Opportunities for canal cruises - and maybe the possibility of a small amount of commercial freight. Lets hope it comes to fruition. Thanks for the update.
I still think they are missing a massive revenue source and less environmental damage moving more freight by canal, let’s hope that changes soon!
Great Video!
Glad you enjoyed it
A very interesting project
And one with such hope to be completed soon!
chesterfield is a town not a city & the works are progressing at a steady pace to connect the 2 sections of the chesterfield canal together
Yes I know, I’ve been covering sections, I’m also a member of the trust, they are doing a fantastic job
Call me cynical but if it's like any other development once the houses and offices have been built there won't be any money left to do the canal.
@@danensis I’m with you on that, developers always seem to wiggle out of what they’ve promised. Money should go into a pot for all the projects that go alongside it so it’s protected. Or houses should be illegal to sell until points are met.
We're still just a town
I alway go by football clubs as the names normally stick on your head and I just couldn’t think!
Great video but to let you know Chesterfield is a town.
Thanks, I wasn’t sure as I was filming, I do loads of research and then the city/town was what got me! 😂
Were just a town unfortunately
Yeah I thought so which is why I questioned myself! I used to come quite a lot as a kid as my step mum was from Sheffield but later her family all moved to Chesterfield.
