      Another great review btw. Question? If swinging at different speeds 90/80/70mph, wouldn't the shaft then play a big part? Senior shaft for 70mph, Reg/Stiff for 80mph and Stiff/X Stiff for 90+mph. I'm looking at these clubs, and also the Mizuno 245 and Srixon ZX5/7 blended.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @bsmith4u2 under normal conditions where most are shaft sensitive absolutely it would. The reason I keep everything the same when changing speeds so much is it see how much the head changes dynamics without complicating any differences with changing components 👍🏻👍🏻

    At age 67, need a little help to get some distance back, these really deliver for me, i still swing on plane, just a little slower. These help a little with loft and weighting, for the money you will struggle to beat these, look good, easy to play and doesn’t scream at you. Played Wilson in my youth, blades then but it’s ironic that i am back with them, great historic golf company deliveing excellence again, the current stable of clubs all look and play well.

    It would be great to see a head-to-head against the Mizuno JPX forged, both game improvement with the forged sticker. One is almost half the price though!

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před 6 měsíci +3

      Must admit that I haven't looked at the pricing difference, a lot of the time the media samples come after any word of how much online and pro shops will retail it for. If that's the case it's a decent amount. Would be good to put them against one another to see where one wins over the other 👍🏻

      @rickylee316 I went in for a fitting yesterday. My top 2 choices were the Dynapower forged and the 923 forged. Performance was almost identical. Maybe an extra MPH ball speed with the Mizuno. I actually preferred the feeling from the Wilson, it''s a nice punchy feel. The Mizuno's feel was a little muddy to me; couldn't really tell where on the face I was hitting it. I am a fairly high handicap, typically shoot from 90-100 with about an 80 mph swing speed with my 7 iron. I'm also coming from Mizuno 850 forged irons. I was trying to not be a Mizuno fanboy going in. My 850s are my favorite set that I've ever owned, but a close second would be the Wilson Staff FG Tour V2.
      I think the final deciding factor was the price. It was about $300 less for the Dynapowers for extremely similar performance.

      That's the beauty of Feel and Looks, they are so unique to the golfer wanting them. Some like loud clubs and others like quiet ones, different tones etc it never ends, we all like different things and that's what makes life and golf more enjoyable as it would be boring if we all liked the same thing 🙂👍

    These look almost like the previous D9 Forged. I bought the D9 Forged 2 years ago and love them! Great feel and sound, forgiving, and as long as the Cobra King Forged at that time, which was the longest Game-improvement iron I tried at the time. These are basically re-named clubs to keep in line with their Dynapower theme. Wilson is a great brand that more people should try - unfortunately, the two major retailers in the Seattle area re not carrying the brand in their stores as of recently. Too bad for those that never got to try these.

    When I started playing golf, Wilson was one of the big 3 golf brands out there (McGregor and Spalding..yes they made golf clubs to you younger guys out there were the other 2). Got myself a Wilson Dynapowr Forged myself. These are total sleeper irons probably cause of their "shelf" appeal compared to the big brand names and has beens or nobody's are using them on tour right now. Guarantee you if a Rory, Colin, or a Xander used these irons, Wilson wouldn't be able to keep this in stock.

  • @zazhou
    @zazhou Před 6 měsíci +1

    Hi Jay, appreciate a lot your three different swing speeds, being a slow swing speed golfer myself. Your good testing and ball data results just serves to confirm that slow swing speed golfers should not be purchasing a standard 4I-PW set of irons. Half the set is sub functional for slow swing speed golfers and if your 7 iron swing speed is in the sixties, one should be looking at a full set of hybrid irons like Eleven or Cleveland Halo XL or Wilson Launchpad or Cobra T-Rail..

I'm reality a brand is never looking to entice sales from golfers with the previous model of a launch as really there is never enough justifications to buy the new over the old, unless someone wants something new and shiny. I want forged but want forgiveness and distance. I like long irons and currently play Stealth 2 but the 5 iron at 21 degrees a bit strong and find 23 degrees or more make a great difference. Many thanks.

    Hi Jay, great review as always. I need new irons. Moving in from my old trusty callaway x-16’s. My striking isn’t perfect, but delivering some good speeds. Not sure about club head speeds, but hitting an 8 iron around 108-112mph at 38 degrees loft. It goes 140-150 yards. I am considering these dynapower. There are exactly the same size as my old irons. I’m worrying that the difference between good and a bad strike is going to be too much. So also considering staff cb, although there are somewhat smaller.
    I’m not sure whether game improvement irons are really improving your game. They might improve your handicap, but because of the lack of feedback I’m not sure whether you actually improve your ball striking.
    What’s your opinion on that?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před 5 měsíci +1

      GI irons do nothing for your strike spray consistency, I've put blades in high handicappers hand loads of times and measured their spray consistency and it's measurably better than that of their game improvement irons.... I think as soon as you can migrate from them, golfers should 👍🏻

      I was fit for these last week. The club suited me very well, but the descent angle was 44*, and spin was a bit low. 7 iron carried a little over 170, so we decided to weaken them 1*. I'll gladly give up a few yards for better approach numbers. I agree with Jay's comments on the feel. No one would confuse them with the Wilson Staff irons, but they feel very solid, and the feedback is very precise for a "GI" type iron. As always, nice review, Jay.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I also wonder if you could tweak your swing so much on the slower swing speed tests, that you only deloft by 2 or 3 degrees, because this is also common with players at these speeds (I should know 😂). Experience often leads to this.

    Great review. The only qualm I have is that you constantly compare these types of irons to blades. The word blades should never be mentioned in the same video. Just stating facts, as it does a real disservice to the reputation of this type of iron.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před 6 měsíci

      Not necessarily as for one it says Forged on the body of the iron and a big part of the marketing of the club is set to it's metallurgy being the same as the Blade and CB. On the second part, to be able to describe feel which is massively subjective and some golfers care hugely whilst others care not a jot about it, the only way to objectify them is to reference the ends of the scale, blade being on oen side vs full on fire cracker game improvement iron on the other.
      So I'm not saying they feel bad or feel good, it more to objectify a subjective measure 👍🏻👍🏻

    Jay, 4400spin at 80mph & 44 decent makes me very nervous here in firm az...so what are your "class leading" best in class at 80mph without being a shovel that provide spin, height, decent, and some forgiviness? ;0)

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Unfortunately if you want all the above and don't want it to be a shovel, then you're asking too much from physics. Always the best of performance will undoubtedly come from the bigger bulkier irons that can take full advantage of all the tech they can throw at an iron.
      What golfers need to do more than anything else is balance the needs they have for what they want to look at and use against the clear advantage that size matters 👍🏻👍🏻

    Why does it seem like none of these irons spin? Hot Metals, JPX, MPs....all the spin numbers are low. You hit the ball further, so now you have to club up and your typical 7 iron distance might become a 9 iron. However, the spin numbers still seem low...like expecting 7000 from a 7 iron and none of these clubs do that. They are all low 5000s now. Now you go up to 9 iron and only get 7000.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před 6 měsíci

      Two factors, mainly loft and the CG of the head. And the second would be ball. You can within your custom fit move thr spin numbers around to suit. But loft is the biggest demonisation here so it's just a biproduct of the more distance inspired irons 👍🏻
