      actionman935 He had a dark side when he said he never met a man he didn't like; he meant "I never met a MAN I didn't like"!
      He also said he "loved that line so much I'm gonna have it on my tombstone and I can't wait to die, so's I can see it for myself!
      He didn't like plenty of people, he was a Scorpio, he had all their virtues and little if any of their ugly side! But he had sarcasm, his Judge Priest character was a complex and excellent good man it's great to see Will play him! He and Step "n Fetchit cooked up a scheme that has the Judge imitating Step, Rogers best friend in film! It's delicious!

People all over the country stopped what they were doing and listened to him. Yet, Rogers was not mean spirited or demeaning, but could make his point using humor. He was influential in FDR election, would have loathed neoliberals as flim-flam con artists!
      Dad quoted from this speech on a regular basis; most loved man in America when his plane crashed! I always felt highly suspicious, but adored as Will was, so no one wanted to connect him with assassination!

    This was recorded during The Great Depression. A time when Republicans were the liberals and Democrats were the conservatives.
    This was a USA 2 years away from seeing the salvation of The New Deal and Social Security; 7 years away from the Fair Labor Standards Act (minimum wage). They had just come out of World War 1 a little over a decade previously and couldn't imagine the horrors about to face them 8 years later in World War 2.
    The people of that time remembered their childhood friends getting hurt in factories, trying to earn money for their parents. They knew people who had been crippled with polio.
    These were people who's parents were the victims of ruthless monopolies which reigned over the business world for decades.
    If you want to know what a free market economy can do for you; if you want to know what smaller government looks like; if you think things have only gone downhill because of the government turning into a nanny state; ask these people what kind of country they came from. Then think twice before looking down on the bleeding hearts who only want a fair chance at pursing happiness.

    • @Jcolinsol
      @Jcolinsol Před 7 lety +1

      Isn't it funny then, that these children born at the end of the decadent 20's, who grew up during the great depression, and sacrificed much to win World War II went on to craft the highest functioning society in human history, one based on free enterprise and conservative values?
      It was their children who demanded the welfare programs that have kept the poor in poverty,, who destroyed the fabric of the family structure for the sake of easy sex,, who sold out their children and their grandchildren to corporate globalism in the name of cheap electronics.
      Who would have thought that the "greatest generation" would be followed by the worst?

    • @sirdeadlock
      @sirdeadlock Před 7 lety +2

      Well of course they did. Their parents (The Greatest Generation and the silent generation) established the foundation of a more functional economy which they (The Boomers) took full advantage of.
      And it wasn't a cake walk for their parents either. They faced conservative opposition at every turn. The New Deal's labor rights, for example, were shot down thanks to a movement started by a single businessman who notably never thought it would go all the way to the supreme court.
      When the Boomers entered the work force, minimum wage had been in place for decades. In the 1960's it expanded to jobs beyond factory work and soon became a standard across the country for all jobs. What they earned was more than enough to live on.
      They could buy houses with the money they were earning on minimum wage job. They took that money, invested it, started businesses of their own (without loans), tinkered in their garages and started families.
      As for the Greatest Generation's grandchildren (Generation X), they had to work nearly twice as hard to get the same results.
      As for Welfare, that was part of Social Security which was introduced in The New Deal back in 1935. It's actually a vital part of any economy.
      The problem with it that "kept the poor in poverty" is thanks to the extremely effective business tactics of the boomers and a few Gen X. The disparity has moved faster than policy can account for. Because of that, the pathway out of poverty is less of a gradual process and more a leap of faith. If one fails at striking out on their own, they fall hard. Two or Three generations out now with the same regressive business practices being followed, the Greatest Generation's great-great grandchildren often times can't even fall back on moving in with their parents in an emergency, since their parents are also struggling to get by.
      And in regards to easy sex? If you look it up, you'll find that boomers on average have had more sex partners than their parents, their children, and their grand children (when age is taken into account). So whether or not the traditional family structure has eroded, it wasn't for the sake of sex.
      And as for selling out to corporatism? That's a fundamental business practice throughout all generations. It's all about who manages to sway the leaders. From time to time it happens. This time it happened on the boomer's watch. It's not the generation's fault though. Boomers are typically good people (good as anybody else.)

Once you get out of the crime-ridden slums created by liberal socialist and Democrats in democrat-run cities most Americans either renting their homes or buying and driving automobiles. A good standard of living all depends on what your standards are. Before the Chinese virus anyone willing to work could work. Back in Will Rogers day the only time you seen the government was when you went to the post office. In Will Rogers days They valued their Liberty and there rights and freedom and were far more independent from the government than today self-proclaimed victims. Big government is not the answer big government is the problem. We need to go back to the roots of our manhood and depend on ourselves and solve our problems without government. Self-preservation is the key to living a good life. No one owes me anything, the only debt I have is to the good Lord above. Obey the laws of the land respect yourself and respect others always do the right thing and count your blessings and thank the one who makes it possible. God not the government

      Rogers's view was closer to Rerum Novarum than it was to socialism or communism. We recognize that it's morally wrong for people to control great wealth while their neighbors are starving to death... and that was happening in the U.S. Notice Rogers emphasizes the preference for *allowing* people to work for their livelihoods. People were willing to work, but the wealthy were hoarding their resources and not hiring.
