Argos' appearance in the Odyssey REALLY hurts. He waited 20 whole years with all the loyalty in the world for a final sight of his owner :(. Best boy since 7th century BC.
I remember writing notes on the Odyssey in one of my classics courses. One line that stuck out was that Argos represents the state of the house. "But now with his master gone he lay there, castaway" (line 324; Fagles). Moreover, the brief exchange between master and loyal dog shows that Odysseus brought death with him on his way to kill the suitors.
Every time I listen to these songs, I imagine an actual stage performance and Hermes doubles as the narrator, introducing the story as well as setting up each saga and making jokes the whole time.
@@Hybridcrows literally about to say this!! Like i love a good narraryove device as much as the next guy, but we can't go copying hadestown's hermes!! Especially when the portrayals are so utterly different, which i love!! Cos gods are complicated and multifacited, and so their portrayals must be as well. And unhinged hermes is the best hermes!!!
I wonder if Zeus could be a good narrator! Cause at the beginning when he tells Odysseus he just kill the son or his whole kingdom and family will fall. Like he knows what's happening behind the scenes, he's King of the Gods and he doesn't really care what will happen to Odysseus. He would be a fun narrator who's constantly rooting against or putting down Odysseus
In case anybody didn't know, Odysseus' dog waits for him to get home, and then dies. Odysseus (in disguise) can't mourn him or even care about him when he sees him die because that would break his cover
Thank you for making Epic Jorge! Keep working on Epic, please tell us soon you're working on the God Games next, so excited for Apollo and the others! Also, how could you kill of the dog like that😢😢😢❤❤❤

Jay. Jay... Have you ever considered turning THIS MASTERPIECE , once it's finalized, into a live musical? It would be an incredible experience!! The form and the content would match... Wow... i'd do a lot to see (live) IT. Your interpretation of Odyssey is amazing!!!
Fun history fact! There are references to cheires (for Greeks) or manica (for Romans), which is a one-armed armor sleeve thing that would historically fit for Eurylochus’s armor being a reference to Cloud, but still be historically accurate! P.S. like, EVERY SINGLE NERD REFERENCE, like, THOSE SPECIFIC ONES, Kingdom Hearts, FFVII, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokémon, AGH MY MILLENIAL HEART, how have we had the EXACT SAME NERDDOMS? P.P.S. A visual reference to Argos would be AWESOME, but wouldn’t it be more powerful for the last time we see him visually to be right before/after Odysseus comes home, since that’s his whole point and really drives home Penelope and Anticlea’s theme of “Waiting~”? Good LORD I would cry.
At the song of the song "Puppeteer," the musical melody was the same when odysseus ordered polites to gear up and to go with him to "try to find a way no one ends up dead" I interpret this as odysseus remembering what he said and beating himself up for leading his men and his best friend to die, which is heartbreaking. That's why he didn't want to talk with eurylochus at that time. he just couldn't
1) This guy don't need auto tune, auto tune needs him 2) You and OSP have a way to make me laugh and sad at the same time when you talk about Oddyseus's dog's death

And hearing more details adds so much more depth to the music But with Argos the dog, i read that he dies in Odysseus' lap the moment he returns home! Please please don't have him die before!! I'm also excited for King, from the suspense to the orchestration
he doesn't die in Odysseus' lap though, it's sadder than that: he recognizes Odysseus in disguise, but is too old and weak to stand up and green him. Odysseus sees Argos too, but can't approach him, so he doesn't blow his disguise. So Odysseus has to walk past, and then Argos dies.
Mr. Jorge/Jay, imho you're absolutely amazing for including so many lovely intricate details, such as the "Danger Is Nearby" motif, the character-instrument pairings, and callbacks from various other parts in your musical, to me it's all just so cohesive, for it really gives it that whimsical flow of a story~ And I loved that you included/intend to include Easter eggs for characters like Argos (Ody's dog) and Elpenor (RIP to them and the rest of the 558 men btw- 😔🙏🏽) I truly commend you for thinking up all this, and your talented team that put this all together, thanks for making this mythological musical masterpiece that will forever be remembered by me, as well as many, many fans! 🥹🙏🏽✨
“Four Odysseus’s dog we’re going to make you so emotionally attached to him and fall in love with him and you want more of him but he’s never gonna show up again and you’re gonna be so sad” 😂
I mean, do we really _want_ to see him again? Argo (the dog) is like, the saddest dog in all of mythology. He (spoilers) Waits 20 years for Odysseus to come back, and dies after finally getting to see him again. So like, if we see the dog again it’s going to be as it’s dying.
What Jay's doing is probably the best compromise. Not ignoring the dog altogether but not showing *that* moment later either... I'll take the Legendary mention.
It's so much fun to see how much thought and passion he puts into his work. I love the easter eggs so much and they're really fun to stumble upon when listening to the music!! It just makes you appreciate the work that goes into EPIC. Allegory and musical storytelling are so hard to do gracefully, but Jorge manages it superbly. Thank you so much for blessing us with your music, Mr. Jalapeño. You are amazing. :D
I love all of these and they made me laugh and cry 🤣 I do feel bad about you wanting to not show Argos later in the story again, as originally he passes as soon as it seens Odysseus for the first time in years (most loyal doggo ever). Are you avoiding writing a dog dying, Jay? In that case I can't blame you!
Dude I totally called it! When Tiresias sings the lines ‘I see your palace covered in red, faces of men who had long believed your dead, I see your wife with a man who is haunting, a man with a trail of bodies’ Odysseus asks him who it is. And I thought, omg . Odysseus he’s talking about YOU!!!👀😱
No clue if it's intentional or if he said it before but my favourite thing is how Odysseus adopted Polites' "Thank you" after he died. Polites' says it in "Open Arms" after the lotus eaters tell them about the cave and the first time we hear Odysseus says it is in "Luck Runs Out" after Eurylochus promises him to trust him and I don't know, I think it's just a beautiful detail
I design the costumes for this show in my spare time, but was having a hard time with Eurylocous and Polites as their mythological roles are adapted, and this helps so much! Also just cosplayed as Aerith at Comicon and love kingdom hearts, so these all make me so happy!
When I hear the song "No Longer You" all I think of is Hellfire. And Plagues from Prince of Egypt to me feels like somewhat of a song that would fit in with the story of Odysseus, primarily the lyrics of Moses and the Ramses. But I love your songs though, they get me through the day and make sure my imagination never runs out.
This is one of the best musicals I have ever seen, and i'm not into musicals that much you literally have me singing this as best as i can to show my friends.
It would kill me with joy if you were to include some easter eggs of Hades I and II !! I was very disappointed, even though I knew that it would never happen in a million years for a million different reasons, when I talked to Odysseus and it WASN'T you voicing him! xD

When I hear the clock effect followed by Athena saying "HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN THE LESSONS I TAUGHT YOU?!" in Remember Them, I think of Young Xehenort's time powers as both the secret boss in Kingdom Hearts: BBS and his boss fight in Dream Drop Distance.
Also something I was thinking about in no longer you is that it’s not saying Odysseus is gonna die but he is going to change. Like he is going to change so much that it’s 🎶 No Longer You 🎶
Idk if this counts as an easter egg but Poseidon quoting Odysseus from "Remember Them" when he sings "I am your darkest moment" in "Ruthlessness" is SO GOOD!

You put so much thought into everything- it's insane!! I love it so much. And all these little easter eggs you put in these just shows how much you care, and it's just the greatest things ever. And one of the reasons I love Epic so much
No Jorge you HAVE TO HAVE THE DOG AGAIN he literally has a whole book to himself in the odyssey, (ngl im happy to see old authors and story tellers having the same cherishment we do for our pets im just mad Homer killed him off right after).
He’s so amazing. I just noticed another Easter egg a few days ago. When one of the villains are introduced or attack odysseus and his crew, there’s a drum played in the background. I think the drum is supposed to show how merciless they are. A easy example is in Ruthlessness, you will Poseidon’s trumpet and a drum when we hear chorus singing his name and when he kills Odysseus’ crew. And In monster, when Odysseus talks about them and himself you can hear a drum. After that you can hear light drumming until the chorus starts where the drumming is more present along with an electric guitar to show he’s done showing mercy and becomes more ruthless. Keep up the good work Mr. Jorge🎉 Are any other characters that will have or gain this unique trait?
What I love in the sagas is when it finally got to the Underworld Saga and we hear Odysseus’ Mom, Anticlea, in the first song and she’s singing the word “Waiting…”, it reminded me of “The Challenge” which is Penelope’s song. And in the last part of that song Penelope’ sings the word “Waiting…”
After that "No Longer You" I now need to hear an acapella of the songs done by Mr. Jalapeño, though considering what he said about the cut songs I highly doubt that's even a possibility ;l
I absolutly love all the work you put in to the musical and all of the effort thats going into it and Personaly i cant wait for the Thunder Saga i really want to hear Luke holt performance
I love that Poseidon is the one who sent that storm. Also, how dare you to do this with the dog? When will the release information about release date of Thunder Saga?
Y’all know what I realized when I was listening back to the Charybdis clip? “You must be who Hermes mentioned. A monster here to block my way.” No, this is a red herring. The real monster blocking his way is POSEIDON in Get in the Water.
When I was listening to the Circe Saga back when I was first getting into Epic, correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard the "Penelope" melody from the "The Horse and the Infant" play in the background after Odysseus tells Circe "I can't!" in "There are other ways". I didn't catch it at first, but after listening to the previous Sagas and then returning to Circe's, I immediately caught onto it 👀
I see Hermes as the only character aware that he is in a musical and is just having fun with it. Does not care and ups it to 11.
THIS! I see his laugh after "holy moly" as a fourth wall break where he's laughing with the *audience*, since Odysseus clearly doesn't get the joke
Hermes breaking the 4th wall feels like a very Hermes thing to do.
@@Luthi3n3Odysseus: why are you laughing?

rawr rawr rawr

I love you saying: "Athena is watchinn." It sounds like a like not so sirious to take crazy dark cultist who wants to be more sirious. I love this.
The dog one got me wheezing… Thank you for this awesome video Jay! I can’t wait for Act Two! ❤
I actually noticed all of the musical easter eggs previously! I think it's super cool all of your inspiration that then leads to epic being produced
His excitement is so adorable ❤
THE BEGINNING I CANT LMAO
You are so aweome, dude. Just hearing about all these things you cook up in this, it's so cool.
I had to pause and take a moment as soon as you mentioned Odysseus’s dog. HE’S A GOOD BOI PLEASE PLEASE JAY NOOOOOOO
Is NO ONE going to talk about "Neo! Avenge your father, killshsehbadahcts-"
The begging of the video was pure gold ✨️
I love being able to watch all of these behind the scenes videos about this musical.
I really hope theres a reprise of No Longer You where Odysseus realizes his sins. Either as angst or something cute with his wife reassuring him
I love that Poseidon is the one who sent that storm. Also, how dare you to do this with the dog?
When will the release information about release date of Thunder Saga?
Ahhhhhhhhhh ru kidding me Jay?!?! I love these Easter eggs! Now all I want is to know what the chorus is for No Longer You and the beginning of Storm
Y’all know what I realized when I was listening back to the Charybdis clip? “You must be who Hermes mentioned. A monster here to block my way.” No, this is a red herring. The real monster blocking his way is POSEIDON in Get in the Water.
I knew they were carrying leit motifs!!! I'm so excited for the other songs aahh!
Speaking of easter eggs. Neat little epic saga cover you put in this one in the corner
"And then I never want to see that dog again. 😐😑😐....Another one of my favorite easter eggs- 😃"
These are so cool! Im happy to say i did notice some of these
"I wanna see that dog in Legendary and then never see it again" *continues to sit silently for me to be able to process but all I can do is cry*
Jay: "I want the cute dog being a happy lil fellow.🥰"
*a moment later*
Jay: "And then, He will never be seen again....." 💀
I LOOOOVE how EPIC is a man making songs like video games because he can and will but only with some PAM PAM
