This was the most uncomfortable charborg experience by far.
Wolf quest was around before furrys even really grew up. The game came out over 19 years ago last time I looked. I was playing it when I was 10. Fun game actually if you like wolves. Since then I believe the original game was modified a little to actually bring in a single player with story. Used to be a really fun hang out and chill spot if you could stand the music playing constantly. Now yes roleplay was a thing but every kid did it, also look at the game. Legit you could do everything in about 20 mins. There’s not much else to do than roleplay. Can’t say any of those people where furries or me for that matter, but I can believe it’s now mostly kept alive by furries. This is the one thing I will a thank them for. Keep my childhood alive you beasts :) not like regular people are downloading it unless to troll

Honestly, if u think the game was meant for furries and gags…that’s more an issue with what version you chose to play and what servers you played in. Single player was always the first base version I believe.
The game has changed a lot since then too gameplay-wise and honestly…everything. They overhauled the entire game since 2.7.
But even so, anyone who didn’t play multiplayer in the past (me) had no clue what a furry was or roleplaying. I got the game because I rarely ever got to experience an accurate animal simulator game, nonetheless with one of my favorite animals at the time, and I loved to learn more about Yellowstone and animals in general. And when it’s not stressful…it’s a relaxing game. That’s why I played, and I have a great time with it still.
Honestly saddens my heart a little to see the game’s potential and reputation was completely squashed by the multiplayer rpers alone, and the people who only got on the game to troll the rps instead of actually experience the game and give it a chance to see it had nothing to do with furries.
It’s like saying someone who plays the Isle must’ve only been in rp servers and probably attracted to dinosaurs. Or that playing Stray meant you have an unnatural attraction to cats.
I’ve watched the devblogs while they were developing the game, and they really are passionate and listen to players while staying true to what the game is supposed to be. They work really hard. Harder than most game devs. It’s such a shame narrow-minded crap from the internet smeared their entire work’s rep for most at first glance.

As an actual furry... this is not a furry game (obviously). It's an educational game that actually has a pretty addictive gameplay loop. It is genuinely fun for being made by such a tiny dev team. They also have a really neat youtube channel where they do regular update logs on the development of the game and go over plans for the future. All in all, it's a great game made by a very devoted team and it is worth a go. And yes I know I'm tardy to the party.

Honestly? I liked it because I always liked animals and learning more about them. I thought it was the coolest thing to have an animal game that tried to teach you things and show realistic behaviors and gameplay for once…without fudging in some “magical” element to the storyline, talking animals, or unrealistic purple fur or accessories like a lot of games cave into to appease those kind of players. But nowadays with the furry memes…I guess no one is allowed to have an interest in normal animals or nature anymore without getting ragged on. Never even knew it was considered a big “furry” game until I discovered multiplayer, so it’s still bizarre for me to see it get labeled for that so often.

I've had this game on wishlist for months but couldnt figure out if it was Online Multiplayer where other players are content, or if it was more like Ancestors and you play as animals in an educational setting
The game is actually made for educational purposes backed by the Yellowstone Wolf Research Center. It gives people an idea of what daily life for wild animals is like, how hard it can be, and get rid of some of the incorrect ideas or stigmas wolves tend to have (like the alpha/omega crap, wolves being killers and a huge danger to humans, etc.). It’s honestly just about the most accurate animal simulator I’ve come across. Even for the npc animal behaviors.
The game has more than multiplayer though. The main version of the game is single player.
But yeah. Sadly, the extreme furry players that flock to multiplayer games gave the game a bad rep and confused outsiders on what the game actually is.

Oh my effing god, Wolf Quest?! I haven't heard that name in years! I used to play this game non stop on my dying laptop! It caused me to delve into some really weird furry forums that no tween should experience. I was *thiiiiis* close to becoming a furry, but I was saved by the laptop just actually ending its miserable existence.
Never tried the multiplayer feature and the second map was always to hard for my young self, especially since the game would drop down to like 2 FPS as soon as the elk appeared on my screen. Oh eff I have so many memories of this game. The break-into-a-farm thing? My kid self could *not* figure it out.

The game was literally made for educational purposes with the American wolf research center’s backing to let people experience and learn about a particular animal’s life cycle and enjoy the challenge of trying to survive as one in Yellowstone.
But for some reason anyone who plays suddenly has to have some kind of sexual reason or connection to animals?
The animals in the game aren’t sexualized or humanized in any way. There’s no reason to assume there’s an alternative reason for why someone would be drawn to it. No TTs. No sex.
People aren’t allowed to just…idk. be interested in wildlife and like animals in a normal sense? The same way someone might enjoy car games?
Of COURSE furries would like it. It involves animals and controlling one. But that doesn’t mean everyone who plays it or enjoys the game IS a furry.
I’ve always loved animals and enjoyed learning about nature. I played this game back when I was 13 by myself and never knew about the connection to furries.
Picked the new version up again after watching the dedication involved in the dev blogs and still enjoyed it.
Only learned of the connection to furries from CZcams, and it’s a shame that’s all anyone seems to think of it as.
Even tried Multiplayer lately to see what the fuss was about, but if you find the right people, even that wasn’t as bad as people paint it to be.
The amount of thinking people put behind any opinions they make or adopt is astoundingly low, especially online.
And I seriously doubt anyone has nothing to do with a game that has people in the community that’ve done incredibly toxic or weird things online with it, but I’m not going to assume off the bad examples that you must be just like them.
Because that would be stupid.
