  • Tartan has been synonymous with Scotland for centuries. From our symbolic Highland Games, bold fashion statements and traditional kilts at weddings, to ancient Highlanders donning a full tartan get up, and tartan popping up in film & TV favourites, you will have no doubt seen many tartan examples across the world.
The history and origin of tartan is an interesting and detailed one, but today it is one of the top things you think about when someone mentions Scotland. Delve into the details of Scottish tartan and discover its connections to Western China in the 3rd and 4th centuries, how tartan really took off thanks to Sir Walter Scott, and explore over 9,000 recorded tartan variations too.

    I'm in Scotland those days.
    s. I'm very disappointed of seeing tartans only in shops for tourist. Why Scotts don't wear more their coulours in current life ? Jeans are everywhere for everybody wherever you come from. So sad ! Men in kilt are really handsome and women to ! Please, be proud to be Scotts, wear more tartan !

Well you see, tartan simply isn’t practical anymore (more specifically kilts) my clan tartan is a lovely one, but I’ll only ever wear it to my wedding, a ceilidh, or any other special events, because it mainly went on kilts. When kilts went out of fashion so did the idea of wearing tartan

The tartan found on the tarim basin mummies. These mummies were of obvious european descent and were found with bits of cheddar too. They had north eurasian dna so no, they are not chinese.
