I do agree with the Shaykhs balanced view and analysis. . But why not to be clear and say the obsession of full segregation is Bida'ah 'innovation' has no proof in the Quran or the authentic Sunnah. Nothing more than opinions of some scholars who make up rules based on Ihteyat (keep the safe side) and then those rules come be part from islam I.e from Allah when they are human made.

I'm glad that Saffiyah mentions in her opening remarks that York decided not to grant the student's request. This helps the viewer to know the outcome right away. Secondly, Br. Shabir is right when he gave credit to opposing views...well balanced. Thirdly, he said that under these circumstances, we have to balance things out..."If the student was a Muslim, then he should not be accommodated". What would happen in a workplace where he would have to mix with females?? I think a lot of people, Muslims and non-Muslims will appreciate Dr. Shabir's eloquent explanation. Glad that he said that there are others way for Muslims to try to resist temptation such as dressing decently, acting decently, etc. I give this interview a definite "thumbs up".

This whole gender segregation has been taken out of context.
