      Brazils husyorians cannot explain this clearly either. His best friend out off blue assauted the palace with some troops screaming long live the republic and a few minutes later he and the same soldiers were scorting Pedro to a ship to portugal. The soldiers insisted him to keep the crow jewels but he sayd it was a brazillians patrimony. They agreed in enchange the kings jewels for a sack of Earth, this way he would still have thse lands with him.
      To me I supposed he staged and couped himself and implated the republic at cost of his own power.

      The answer why: slavery. Dom Pedro II ended slavery, the guys that profited from it got mad at him, bribed a lot of the military, and removed him. So yeah, Brazil republic was born from slaveowners and military despots, that created a feudal like system where they ruled their fiefdoms, while controling peoples livehoods and votes. Funny detail, when they made the coup, they were surprised that Pedro backed down, not just because he wanted no bloodshed, but they didn't want him out, just scare him into legalizing slavery again.

    • @cl5536
      @cl5536 Před 3 lety +2

      Brazil's republic was a literal overnight military coup, which no one expected but (as it happens in Brazil) also no one complained enough. As mentioned, it was, simply putting, because whoever could complain were slave owners, already dissatisfied with the end of slavery and the military was strong since Paraguay War. And the rest of the population, well. They just had to take it, like always.
      That being said, D. Pedro wasn't such an educated and gentle man or even diplomatic enough, as we see through Paraguai War and all the insurrections taken place inside the empire.

I tried pulling back my troops, and offering peace. but he took up defensive position on the river separating us and damaged many of my troops with archers, forcing my hand. @@Birkebeiner1066 It is true that she aint famous, but her words probably come from the values we believe Scythians held. We are taught in school that Scythians gave an extremely high value to honesty and sincerety which is connected to hopes that their descendants will remember them as honorable people (which in turn is important as in the steppe oral literature and communication was much more dominant than writing and documenting stuff, so you must be a very virtous person to be remembered). These values also show themselves in her disliking surprise wars. So yes, she sticks to her values and hopes to be remembered for it.
      Plus she was not a warmonger in a quest for glory (the kind of people famous in history), she only had to go to a defensive war against Persia because she lost her husband previously and her son who was killed by Persians, otherwise she would have been a boring, peaceful, unknown leader. My point is she doesn't claim to be a golden name in the history.
      I know all of it bcuz I come from the region where Scythians lived, people give their daughters her name and shoot movies about her.

In cases like Cleopatra, a language is used that is not from the time period, but still from the region. Cleopatra in real life likely spoke Middle Demotic, but in game speaks Middle Egyptian, which was spoken about 2,000 years earlier. The modern world knows more of the Middle Egyptian language than Middle Demotic, so it's easier to write dialogue for.

    I was playing a domination game and Gandhi had only one city left. So I decide to give him a taste of his own medicine and declare a surprise war via nuking his last city. Now the first "strange" thing that happened was that he had no reaction to the war declaration. I'm new to civ so I don't know if that is normal or not when it comes to declaring surprise wars via unit attacks instead of going to the leaders screen. But anyway I waited like 10 turns for the radiation to clear up so I could take the city. Eventually I captured it and something happened I know isn't normal, It didn't play his defeat scene. I just captured the city and chose to keep it and ended my turn. My theory is that since it was a surprise war (and they didn't know I had nukes) they didn't have time to take Gandhi to a bunker and he fucking got incinerated.
