Quick tip for a ultimate shine, grab a automotive microfiber cloth buff it to a near mirror shine!
Nice
I used your method on two of my action figures. The first was my Fox Kids Transmetal Tarantulas from Beast Wars. It didn't really do anything for the chrome parts of him (which are sadly chipping) but the plain gray plastic parts actually look like metal now and almost none of it rubs off. The second was my Revenge of the Sith Count Dooku figure; he came with a cape made of crappy, cheap-looking gold fabric. I dunked the cape it the powder, rubbed it off with a cloth, left it in a plastic bag for a day, rinsed the excess powder off, and voila, it's closer to the dark brown that it's supposed to be.
Many thanks!
You got that beautiful chrome finish on your fingers too! "Wear you some gloves"-Crafsman
I was, but they tore apart on my giant meat hooks... LOL
Everything you've used the powder on looks so much better, awesome work and excellent tutorial!!
Thanks so much 😊
Thanks for sharing!😊
You have to do a video on some archangel wings!!!😮😮😮
What a fantastic idea 👍👏. I got the graphite powder, did it. Looks great, rewatched your video, forgot to seal it first 😅. Ordered some Modge Podge sealer, think I'll hit it again with the powder. But even with just powdering, then buffering, I got great results. Thanks very much 👍 😎.
So cool. Makes such a difference!👏🏻
Fantastic vid. Thanks Collector Express.🙂
Very good instructions.
Great video, thanks for sharing I was actually trying to get this effect atm
WOW
I’m definitely going to try this!!
Awesome! I chromed so many of my figures using this... LOL
I’m gonna try this on the super 7 Silverhawks figures!!
Great idea! Can you let us know how they turn out?
@@Arzeno it works good on Quicksilver and the twins. The twins look more like the cartoon.
@@dwoncrawford5823 I'm watching this video precisely to also do it to my super 7 silverhawks, did you repaint them or you just use the powder?
Nice
Great video sir!
Thank you very much
Love your videos sir. Thanks
Thank you very much 🙂 I just hope that they are helpful.
@@CollectorExpress absolutely they are. I will definitely be chrome finishing some accessories and figures thanks to you and your content.
Love this shiny cocaine stuff on the live streams. Thank you for making a tutorial.
I can quit anytime I want... you got any of that Graphite Powder? 🤣
@@CollectorExpress 😂😂😂
Very nice ive used charcoal and graphite power in the past but sealed them have you had any issues by not sealing them? Grate video by the way just subscribed 👍
Thank you very much! The only issue is it might tarnish a little touching it, but a little buff with a q-tip brightens it back up.
Awesome vids! What would your suggestion be for a Hasbro Captain Phasma figure?
It should work great on her. I used it on my Mando and it looks great.
Do you have to prep the joints first? Awesome tutorial!
If the figure is already silver, then there is no need to prep the joints. Plus, the powder is so thin that there isn't any build-up in the joints.
And thank you very much 🙂
@@CollectorExpress so no sanding needed? And where can I buy some of these powders?
How would this look on a copper, bronze, or gold color?
Yeah would this work on gold?
Over gold, you get kinda like a bronze finish.
They make a few other colors that I'm wanting to try.
@@CollectorExpress I was looking for some gold or copper colours from them to try but I was only getting the graphite, it just arrived yesterday and I’m excited to try it out. Thanks again for sharing
alternatively i assume if i scrape the end of a pencil on the figure and do the same?
Hi,
Great tutorial!
Have you tried applying clear colors over the chrome?
I haven't tried that yet. It's definitely something that I want to try next time I get my airbrush out.
@@CollectorExpress OK, Keep me posted please!
@@CollectorExpresshave u tried it since ?
What did you use to clear coat exactly? I've noticed that some paints on softer plastics don't dry well and get tacky and sticky and then I ruined the figure.
Mr Hobby or Testors spray lacquers work great.
@@CollectorExpress I'll look into both of these. Thanks.
Hey, just wondering what silver testors spray you used specifically. There are a few options. (And, I know personally that not all "silver" sprays are created equal.)
The silver that I used is Model Master Custom Lacquer System AMC Sterling Silver Metallic 3D
So the first steps is to paint it silver then clear coat then polish with the powder or clear coat only then polish with graphite powder?
Both are correct. If it's not already silver paint it silver, then gloss clear coat it, and then polished on the powder. If it's already silver or gray, apply gloss clear to it, and then apply the powder and polish.
lets say i wanted to do some linework with a gundam marker to a figure should i do this before or after to get the armor on the figure to shine & will it cause any compliations ???
Is it a paint or ink marker? I've painted over this type of finish without any issues, but I doubt ink would work. If you were to apply the gundam marker before it might show up through one treatment of the powder, but it definitely would get covered up if you applied more than one coat.
Is there a powder to help gold shine better?
They make a few other colors that I want to try to see how they would work with other colors. I'm wondering how Sepia and Sanguine powders would react with gold.

Great tutorial 👍 think you can sell me a tbsp, would like to try it out
LOL... a dime bag of Graphite Powder 😁
how long do you have to wait before you clear coat ? generaly anything crome you cant touch for hours
With this method, you don't seal it afterward. And you can handle it right away after you are done. You may need to re-polish after excessive handle, but it's pretty durable.
Does this work with gold, I have the black Adam Doctor Fate and I would love to make his gold shine
I'm not sure how it would react over gold, but I need to try that some time.
Does pensil will do the same effect? Pensil si graphite
That I don't know I haven't tried this with pencil lead.
What kind of clear coat
Mr Hobby and Testors spray lacquers work great.
Do you top coat after, as well?
With the graphite powder I don't apply any top coat afterwards. It's pretty durable as it is, but if does dull out after handling it you can always re-polished back to a chrome like like shine.
do you spray it with clearcoat afterwards?
Unfortunately, I haven't found a sealer that will keep the chrome-like finish. It's pretty durable without it, but it will dull down after excessive handling, but you can always re-polish it.
I'm thinking about using this on my Mandalorian figure
I did as well, and it looks great 👍
@@CollectorExpress did u paint a base coat before applying graphite rub?
I just applied a clear coat first, then the powder.
@@CollectorExpress did you get a mirror finish?
Do you have to let the powder sit at all? I tried this but it just seems to wipe right off. 😢
Are you applying it directly to the figure or a base coat of clear. It sticks much better over a gloss clear coat.
Do you need to seal in anyway ?
Ok so yuo clear coated, what brand clear coat ?😊
I use Duplicolor automotive top coat, testors gloss, and Mr Hobby clear coats. But on the final application and polish, you don't have to seal it.
Can this be sealed with clear coat?
Unfortunately it will loose it's chrome like luster if you apply a clear over it.
@CollectorExpress Thanks for the info, I appreciate your tutorials.
I gotta ask what brand clear coat did you use? I just ran out of my spray gloss from testors and I can’t find it anywhere now lol
For gloss coat I use an automotive spray paint Dulpi-Color clear top coat.
