I think the learning communities in the new dorms last year were college of math and science, mindful living, honors, substance free, and a few others.

Tbh I’m not really sure anymore since so much has changed with covid. Every dorm has its pros and cons so if there’s a community that seems fun I’d recommend picking that!

Of course!
I just visited Cal Poly SLO and learned that these, of course, are not like all the dorms on campus. There are other dorms that make up a majority of the housing which are miles less cool than these. If if get admitted I really hope I get these rooms lol.

Does the substance free living community live in the new dorms?
The substance free community lived in yakitutu during my freshman year but I’m not sure if they will change the location

Howdy! I'm currently interested in going to cal poly and I was wondering, can you choose your roommate, and if so, is it likely you would get into the new dorms? A friend and I were both considering cal poly and were just wondering if that could be a possibility. Great videos and awesome tour!
Thanks for watching! Cal poly doesn’t let you choose dorms by building. Instead you choose a learning community. If you want to be with your roommate just make sure you fill out the same order of preference of learning communities in your portal
Great video! Are the entrance doors to the dorm building wheelchair accessible? As in, are there "push to open" buttons inside and outside the main floor so that students with disabilities can enter and exit the building easily? Thank you!
Yes these dorms all have buttons to open the doors on the front side of the buildings

how does one get into these new dorms?
Hey I’m planning on attending Cal Poly with 3 of my friends and I was wondering which dorm would be best for us as Freshman? The one in the video seemed like the best, if it’s then which hall should we choose? Thank you so much for the help if you can!
The Yakitutu dorms are only a few years old and have so many nice amenities so they are usually the most “preferred”. I lived in north mountain and loved it even thought they didn’t have the newly updated rooms, kitchens, and study spaces. Idk if they still do this but chose learning communities based on interest so we didn’t have a chance to choose physical buildings

Hi! I’m actually not sure. Two years ago engineering was in Sierra Madre but this may have been different this year, I can’t remember. It just depends on how much students put the RLC as their choices. There is no way to increase your chance of being in the new dorms unless you choose the RLC that end up in there. If it helps, maybe reach out to housing directly and see if they’ll give you any info

I think she may have used nails but I wouldn’t recommend that hahah. I’d get creative w command strips
hahaha i used command strips and then put small nails in after just to reinforce them

Hi noticed that your friend said that she requested mindful living and they put her in the honors 24 hour quiet living. I want to put mindful living as my first choice for living community but I want to avoid the 24 hour quiet thing, do you know if there is there a way to do that or is it all pretty random?
I know a good amount of people this happened to but I think my year was kinda random. I think they are trying to promise you’ll get you’re top 2 learning communities
My Alma Mater. The dorms are nice! They still don’t have heater and air conditioning.
I personally don’t like sharing a bathroom with men. I think they made the dorms co-Ed to avoid issues with LGBT students. It’s actually a really good thing because it prepares you for the real world at work. 16 years ago I worked with a transgender person.

It’s from Target! TJ max, Hobby Lobby, and Home Goods are other good stores!

Business and leadership are prob most social, but they prob are all pretty fun
when do they tell us what specific dorm we have and will there be like pictures of them?
I’d check in with housing about that! With covid it’s probably just delayed :/
Can we get out own locks for the bathroom lockers and choose whichever one we want or is there a separate process to reserve one?
You can choose which locker is yours on the first day! Bring your own lock :)

Yes every dorm has bike racks right by them!

Hey! You definitely have some say in where you live! You can request a double but you’re never guaranteed. As for social life, it’s so so fun! People at Cal Poly are super welcoming which I love! Also classes are generally on the smaller side which is super nice
Hi...i live here and Cal Poly is my dream school. Everytime I visit a baseball game or soccer game and we drive through the campus, i feel like i am driving through a unified family of a community. Everyone is so kind and I always feel happy and comfortable on campus.
Are freshmen’s room assignments random? I don’t recall being asked my top dorm choice in my portal
My year was different but I believe this year students pick their dorm rooms on their assigned day. This information probably appears in your housing portal
in the housing handbook it says you can't bring furniture, but in the video she had a night stand. Are they not strict on this, did she sneak it in, or do storage things like that not count as "personal furniture."
My RAs never said anything (maybe it didn’t count as personal furniture)

Probably pick college of science and math or mindful living. These communities have potential to change but they have been in the new dorms the last 2 years so it could be a good shot
