    In "Two Lists of Reasons" Chilcote states that the UMC is "not so much invested in believing the right things...". That is absolutely right and is the root of the problems that we have right now.

    Could you explain more how the GMC is going to be decentralized? Also, how it will be the local churches certifying candidates? Candidates as in terms of ordination or being a bishop?

      Throughout writings and materials released by those connected with the WCA and GMC, there is a theme of a denomination that operates within a “lighter, leaner infrastructure.” In relation to the research for this video, the term “decentralized” was used by Therrell in his list of 10 reasons. The framework of the Transitional Book of Discipline echoes this sentiment throughout. Notable differences are present in the areas of ordination and property. Below I have included some additional resources that might be helpful.

      Here are summaries of the process of certification for ordination and superintendency outlined in the Transitional Book of Doctrines and Discipline.
      globalmethodist.org/what-we-believe/
      PART FOUR | THE MINISTRY OF THE CALLED
      406. ENTRANCE INTO ORDAINED MINISTRY
      1. Persons who hear a call to ordained ministry should meet with their local pastor or presiding elder (district superintendent) to inquire about candidacy. They must have held membership in a local Global Methodist church (or its predecessor) for at least one year and shall complete a background and credit check. Upon the recommendation by two-thirds secret ballot of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee or equivalent, the charge conference shall by simple majority vote whether to approve and certify them for candidacy.
      2. Candidacy Discernment. After local church approval, a certified candidate shall spend a minimum of six months in discernment, which must include a supervised internship or employment in a ministry setting. During this time, the candidate shall:
      a. Engage with discernment, including but not limited to, completion of a guidebook, mentoring, and participation in a small group with other candidates;
      b. Have a secondary school diploma or its equivalent
      c. Undergo a psychological evaluation; and
      d. Upon completion of the foregoing, the candidate shall write a statement detailing his or her call to ordained ministry and submit it to the annual conference board of ministry.
      3. Once accepted as a candidate for ministry by the annual conference board of ministry, a candidate shall undergo a process of ministerial and spiritual formation developed by the annual conference board of ministry. The annual conference board of ministry shall determine the length and content of the process, though it should focus on the development of spiritual maturity and leadership skills necessary for successful ministry in the candidate’s ministry setting.
      PART FIVE | THE SUPERINTENDENCY
      501. THE NATURE OF SUPERINTENDENCY
      “…bishops in the Global Methodist Church represent a specialized ministry rather than a separate order and are consecrated rather than ordained to their office. The role of bishop is a sacred trust held for a time as the Transitional Book of Doctrines and Discipline of our church allows. It is not a lifelong office.”
      “The bishop’s primary place of servant leadership shall be to an annual conference or conferences of our church. When convened together, the bishops of the Global Methodist Church comprise a general superintendency that leads our church in spiritual and temporal matters. In addition to residing in the office of bishop, the task of superintending in the Global Methodist Church extends to the presiding elder (district superintendent), with each possessing distinct and collegial responsibilities.”
      Here is some information about the sections on church ownership and property outlined in the Transitional Book of Doctrines and Discipline.
      902. STEWARDSHIP OF ASSETS
      There is no trust clause for property held by local churches, annual conferences, regional conferences, connectional commissions, the Transitional Leadership Council, or any of their entities. Each local church, annual conference, regional conference, or connectional commission shall designate in its corporate records how its property shall be disposed of in the event of the entity’s dissolution.

    You didn’t include Jay Therrell’s behavior, which is a major piece of this story and comparison.
    Jay contacted parishioners behind the backs of the pastors of those churches to hold meetings and calls where he disparaged not only the United Methodist Church, but also the pastor in that congregation.
    Upset at one time about the direction of the WCA, Jay Therrell incorporated a new church denomination with Morgan and Morgan until he was caught, all while serving as a District Superintendent charged with making clergy appointments. He has never publicly apologized for this.
    Jay wrote libelous blogs with are full of half truths and outright lies about Florida Conference leadership. The conference leadership only met this with public grace.
    Jay held publicly-advertised meetings on United Methodist property and disallowed the entry of folks who he deemed not conservative enough. Better yet, he did so with an armed guard.
    Jay blocked every person on his and WCA-Florida’s social media who pushed back (even lightly) against the aforementioned lies.
    Jay threatened to sue or prosecute anyone who shared GMC related material which he freely handed out at publicly-advertised meetings.
    Jay, a defender of Scripture-“every word of it!”-filed a lawsuit with 106 churches named against the Florida Annual Conference and encouraged other conferences to do the same. This is of course a direct violation of 1 Corinthians 6.
    Jay has accepted and received funding and support from the Institute on Religion and Democracy, a political operative group that has historically woven division into mainline denominations, and that as a stated goal of theirs.
    Then, after all that, he wonders why the Florida Conference will not give him exactly what he wants, exactly how he wants it.
    He will answer to God for his actions because God will not be mocked. I am sad the conservative wing of our church has not held him accountable for his actions. Instead, they have glorified him.

    This unfortunate current split in the UMC reminds me of a similar split in southern Methodists in the 1960s -1970s.. When I was growing up in the 1960's South, many churches left the UMC because they opposed racial integration, believing the Bible called for continued segretation of blacks and white.
    My wife and I were both sad and excited as we recently transferred from a church leaving the UMC. We have joined a UMC church that is staying the course until the next annual conference. We would have preferred to see our old church support, and the UMC approve, one of the other options than the Traditional Plan. We hate to see the church divided over this one issue of acceptance of gay marriage/clergy. We have gay relatives, and it appears to us they were made by God and nature this way, and deserve full acceptance and support in the church. We suppose the broader issue is how literally we interpret the Bible. We think our society's understanding of homosexuality has improved over the last many centuries.

    • @DaddySizeIt
      @DaddySizeIt Před 2 měsíci +1

      it's impossible to read the Bible and come to the conclusion that homosexuality is not a sin. There's too much there. You may as well say I was "made like this by God" when I murder or cheat on my wife. No one was made to sin, we were given free will to obey God or not and we often and some willingly choose sin. The answer is not inclusion of sin, it's repentence from sin. That's the gospel.

    Which one would John and Charles Wesley join?

    • @johnbreitmeier3268
      @johnbreitmeier3268 Před 2 měsíci

      Probably neither. Both are profoundly liberal and worldly and powerless, The Wesleys would barf. Both are way more liberal than the Church of England that Wesley was trying to reform. As for the GMC, you cannot spend 50 years living with and being guided by pigs and NOT learn most of their habits. They no longer even smell most of the stench.

    • @DaddySizeIt
      @DaddySizeIt Před 2 měsíci

      Neither as both died as Anglican priests. Both refused to leave the Anglican church! Though John did ordain Methodists to preach in America, Charles was opposed to it. Methodism only exists because the Church of England was dissolved in the US. The Wesley's recommended Brits remain Anglican.

      And this is why i don’t go to church. This thinking is pervasive and members actually harass others who do not share their views. I tithed but not to my church. I always gave to Christian ministries that clearly doing good work. I cannot see tithing to the Global Methodists when that money is essential used to fund conservative ideology espoused by the Republican Party. I wish they would have been honest and called the church Global Methodist Church of the Republican Party.
