Okay, so today we are gonna go over how to do a basic standing barbell curl. Obviously it's to work the biceps. Now with the bar, you have different choices. There's an easy curl bar, which is the zig zag bar. Or you can use the straight bar. Both are just as efficient as the other. So, to start out with this exercise, what you wanna do; always start with your base, your feet. Make sure they, your knees are nice and loose, not locked out. And make sure that your arms are nice and loose, not locked out. And what I mean by locked out is you never wanna lock your elbow out, cause that could damage the joint. You always keep a soft elbow, slightly bent, no matter what, through your entire rep, and the entire set. So during this exercise, the hard part, the positive part; is coming up, squeeze, come back down through the negative. Always want to keep control of this exercise. You see a lot of guys with bad habits, throwing the bar up, letting the bar drop; doing nothing for themselves. So, the more concentrated you are on the bicep, the better results you are gonna get. So its up, squeeze. Back down. Notice my elbows are not coming all the way forward. You don't want to have to be picking up your arm like this. Cause then your are taking away from the bicep work. Its elbows remain locked in place. Bier side, come up squeeze, control back down. Control the negative. Breathing wise, when you get really taxed, you wanna make sure that you are breathing through the, all of your exercise. So you always breath out during the hard part, when you are working against gravity. So it's up, breathe out. Remember to squeeze that bicep at the top. Inhale on the way down. Come up squeeze, inhale on the way down. And that's your basic bicep exercise. Basic straight barbell curl. - Sport

You came back a decade later to post this?
Thank you. I'm old-almost 50 and a beginner, so this was very helpful. God Bless.
Get it jiji
Ppl start at 70 and stuff like that u r not that old ...YES YOU CAN ! :)
@@salmavian6612 lmao that reminds me, my dad is like 69 and he's still shredded and could take on just about anyone, that monster of a man. So 50 is definitely doable.
U not old đ„ lets go
Yes
He looks like a real man who puts work in and doesn't let his success get in his head. Props. I needed this. I never feel anything in my bis when I'm working on them but doing some research on proper form I'm feeling it big time now

Very useful, no fluff at the beginning or end of the video. I really appreciated the lack of "hey dudes! You gotta subscribe!!!".
Exercise was simply explained, and the important points emphasised. Thanks!

That guy is big af...I automatically believe everything the man saying
Kayode Molen that's the point đ
@@user-jq2qe3vf4q Roids for that type of body? Lol.... you can get as big as him provded you're consistent with your training. He's above 15% bodyfat too, this is easy to maintain. If you're sub 10 then you would have your hands full, but this is not by any means hard to achieve and maintain. Not taking anything away from the man of course... he's huge.
Kayode Molen Heâs ok but not that big.
@@GenuwineG um he's huge..
@@shockmsy
I realise now why it took so long to get biceps. I used to not fully extend my arm and would end up lifting my elbows, losing focus from the desired muscle group. Most people do what I did and that's start with bent arms
Same here
This guy has a great body, no homo. Not too big, but not too small. Enough tone, but not too exaggerated.
not too big? lol
Great body! Exactly what i wanted to say. I dont' like those freak physics. This is beautiful and looks really good!
Exactly. Not sure why people think heâs on steroids đ€
Furkan Ăelik he is big but he meant not toned muscle like anyone else. In my country if youâre skinny tall but ripped you can still be considered big because of muscle but this dude has a bit fat on him
Do you have better than him???
Short but straight to the point!!! Thank you sir !
I love your video man, just started going to the gym, and these 0 Bs videos + detail are really helpful, keep up the awesome work!
Thank you man Iâm 15 and got into body building 4 months ago and I just wanted to make sure I was doing it right very informational video đ

Just started working out and I love your videos. You explain things very well and in a relaxed way. Not that wild, pumped up in your face stuff you see in many other videos. Love your work. Great body btw!
How is it going thus far?
@@basilihuoma5300 I am afraid I quit... I liked it, but it was quite time consuming. It was also quite costly with buying the right foods and keeping the right diet... so it took me quite a bit of time, money and effort. There were some gains, but I didn't feel like it was worth it compared to what I was putting into it. Than I got corona, lost all my gains and after that I just quit... didn't feel like it anymore.

thanks king for the help
Ottimo esercizio e spiegazioni,grandissimo....Top!!!!!!
Damn, thank you man. I was pulling it up way too high
Great video! :)
It's worth noting that some people believe that EZ curl bars encourage the bicep to grow a peek but also makes them narrow too. The flat bar can help the bicep grow wider with a more fuller round look to it. I trianed for years only using EZ bars and DB's and always had a big peek but since a learned this trick I prefer flat bar curls for a meaty looking bicep. Always remember the real key to big arms is actually TRICEPS !

Great video i find a if i use a staigh bar my wrists give up before mh biceps where as with a ez bar i can go for much longer and actually get a good pump
Thanks Mr. Azar. I wish you were my personal fitness coach.

so how many times a week should you work your triceps and how long of a rest same for biceps thanks
Breathing technique used for all workout variations or only for this?
Thank you for the informative video but why my chest got more pumped after 3 sets of these?
nice work you have
should we lock the elbows after release?
could you please explain what is correct step for this.
As a beginner what weight should I start with ??
Hey.... 47 next month and just starting TODAY! This will be tough, but, lets go!
What about biecpet curls standing against the wall? I stood against wall and my body didn't sway around.
now i learned why my right elbow joint is paining because i did barbell curl and completely made my arm straight
He is beastđđ
At my local gym they only have the Barbell Curls with a chair, How am I supposed to do it then?
The result of a good bulking. Gotta remember, he hit a pump, there is good lighting, and good angles.
hi, as an average guy, 5'10"/78kgs, should i go for a EZ Bar of length 3ft or 4ft?
Thank you
Whats your training method.. is it push pull leg or bro split..
Whats the recommended weight for a beginner?
What am I sqeezing, the bar or my bicep
what dose that mean by squeeze?
Is it okay to stretch the back while doing this with one hand
Thank you for this. I'm a 39 year old man, who has been lifting his beer with incorrect form for far to long. Bless you.
It's time to put down the beer yo
If you ever have trouble trying to use perfect form an arm blaster will keep your form perfect.
What is the squeezing part he is talking about? Squeeze wrist or tighten the bicep??
nice instruction tho
So you go all the way down and all the way up touching your bicep? Sorry for the dumb question I just want to make sure.
should u lift up the bar at the top a bit?
What is the difference between a normal rod and curl rod???
What inch plates fit on those kinds of bars?
That's my only question.
You can get standard (1inch) or olympic (2 inch)
What does he mean by squeeze when he's at the top?
I just noticed that I would lift up but I wouldn't come all the way down thanks man
đ„đ„đ„
HOW many should i do in a day
im about 1.8 meters tall and i weight around 57 kg and i cant gain weight, what do you thin should i take some proteins and stuf?
How much weight should you use?
is it important to exhale while lifting up ? does it help in muscle growth ?
If you inhale and exhale properly you will be able to get a few more reps out and have good form. But it doesn't alone help them grow..
Sanjog Nijjer It's an important part of exercise because you wanna breathe and get oxygen to your muscles properly. To get bigger muscles you have to eat protein and carbs, rest properly, and go hard in the gym.
If you don't your at a higher risk of getting seriously injured. I heard of a guy who held his breath while doing the hard part of an exercise and he had brain damage for 6 months
Always exhale when exerting force (or as he describes it, the positive part) of an exercise.
It helps to prevent bloated abs
Oh I didn't know you weren't supposed to lock out your elbows, I always did those after each rep to make each rep as difficult as possible, but that explains why my elbows can hurt when I've been doing a lot of curls lately
Okay great now I know why my brachioradialis is so strained. I was completed straightening my arms locking my elbows and then curling the barbell every rep. Thanks
Wow! cool. Seems like I was doing something right naturally, except I was wearing heels. lol But only on camera.
shoulders back or front??
Good bhi
what is the point of the curves on the bar? am investing in a bench and some bars and plates.
+gnarleypunkroker5 Makes it easier for the wrist, as they apply to it more naturally. In other words, it kind of prevents the bones from getting sore later on. However, you can still use a straight bar if you want.
Amen control is everything bruce lee allso said that
No. Bruce lee said it ,but now you've also said it...
This dude is huge
Great video!! I went on eBay and bought a used curl bar. And some used in expensive Ted William's vinyl weight plates. I live in an apartment. I'm ready to train.
