2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Trailer Lights and TIPM Problem

2006 Dodge Ram TIPM bypass and lessons learned. Right turn signal wouldn't work and I discovered my TIPM had a bad IC switch for the right trailer signal output.
Bypassed it using the light duty converter linked below but learned a few things in the process...

Just took my 06 Cummins to the dealer for the TIPM flash (TSB 08-021-06). I had continuity front to back, so it wasn’t a wiring problem. Probably a rented trailer with a wiring issue caused it, but now I am good to go. I will definitely check trailer wiring before hooking up in the future!

What was the cost to reset it? I’m having the same issue with my mega. Debating taking it in or bypassing.

Airbag recall was free. Think a tipm reconfigure where I live was going to be 180ish. That was the next thing I was going to try.

@@JohnYoshii​ The local dealer did it at no charge. Maybe because I did all the legwork on tracking this down, or maybe because they’re nice guys, or maybe because my wife spends so much money down there buying vehicles.

You can indeed do repairs to the TIPM, the main plug- ins on the back of the main board have a tendency to corrode periodically, I cleaned and repaired 2 terminals which had caused 2 weeks of grief running down an electrical issue.

You don't want to use a test light you want to use a milliampmeter to test your wires to make sure they are not exceeding the amp load for that circuit if one is higher than spec that will affect your TIPM Module. I have replaced my TIPM due to the truck I bought had Halo headlights and a transfor on one of them went out and killed my TIPM. So don't hook to any wiring until you know your specified amp draw for that circuit.

Took my 06 in for the airbag recall and when they gave it back my signal worked. Maybe resetting the tipm is part of the airbag install?? or the tech hooked me up while he had my truck hooked up...

TIPM controls all electrical on it for example if you put LED light bulbs in your brake and turns the first 3 or 4 blinks of your turn signal will be normal then it will start blinking rapidly like a bulb is out that because your amp draw for that circuit now doesn't draw as much current due to the LED'S so the TIPM thinks you have a bulb out.

I’m having issues with a 2012 2500 hemi. Got a constant right turn signal light at the 7 pin. When a trailer is hooked up the right trailer light stays on even when the truck is off. The left turn signal and the running light on trailer will not come on. I know this is a issue with the truck and not the wiring on the trailer because I have hooked up another truck to same trailer and it works flawlessly.

7 way connectors have a standard layout someone could have either mixed up the other truck and trailer to match or the problem truck might have been mixed up. that's where I'd look

Most trailer light and brake issues are improper wiring or the male or female plug and/ or bad ground. JMHO

Tipm can be repaired by MAKS TIPM repair

There is a tipm repair medic that rebuilds these rotten fucking things.
