I know it's been 11 years, but here's my response: I don't think there is a villain and a hero in this game, they are two people fighting for themselves, their friends and their reasons.
This is probably the one ending of the game that made me giggle so much because of Emil. xD My dad always used to tell me a story about a boy who was just a head, one day got a body, and the second he got it, he ran out into a street and got run over. The moral of this story? Quit while you're "a head" apparently. LOL.
It sucks though, the world dies and pretty much everyone dies of the black scrawl since no one is really human. Or at least that's how it was put...Now I can only think "Fuck this games plot, I want everyone to live!"

You know...I think Emil was better off dead....Because now he is trapped in an Immortal body, and the rest of humanity will die off literally during THIS generation. How he will react to Nier and Kaine dying....Oh Emil....T-T
I think in Gestalt she is still a love interest as denoted in Ending C and before they confront Shadowlord. I always saw her as a love interest after the five year jump.

So Basicly, in the beginning of the game, you play as the Shadow Lord before he and Yonah becomes Shades/Gastalt? So this Entire time, the shadow lord was only lvl 30? xD In Any Case, all big-words and such from previous comment on the previous playthrough this playthrough provided a whole new window for us to watch in and man, do i feel like the bad guy or what? Especially Roc, poor runt, hope he is in a better place now. Also, the final descision is "Which weapon to kill the shadow lord with"

@Robant100 there's actually an ending E which was never implemented into the game. It's in Grimoire Nier. Yet there is no official translation of it yet D: Yet i don't wish to spoil it >-< damn you japan for not localizing it D: Yet there are translations of it on the net XD
@Robant100 i only have a partial portion of the translation of grimoire nier in my possession. I am just missing three stories and the ending for E is just a summary not the full translation D; If you remeber where the full translation is mind if you direct me to it. XD
how the hell can you get these costumes I play gestalt on ps3 got the dlc and I am on my second playtrough but I got no costume's Can you only get them in the dlc lvl if so that sucks :(

I've never played the game, but man these endings are all making me cry when I read the stories and understood everything.
To be fair, the Shadow Lord has had about 1500 years to build up his strength to try and kick your ass. xD
I just love how the shadowlord's theme faded into the music box version of it, with the shadowlord's quote it's just perfect

@ 7:35 is honestly the best line in the game this voice actor did a superb job voicing nier imo

Nier came back in "Ending E" though, which is basically a continuation from Ending D
He remembers NiER, Ending E is a Continuation of ending D, they both happen in the same timeline.
Well, he just never dies ;-; ......He's bound to be in pain for eternity...
I love how Emil makes a comical "boing" whenever his head bounces. That just makes that extra even better. :D
I like how in Gestalt Kaine is like another daughter to Nier, but in Replicant she's a love interest. It's great.

As far as I know, you can unlock the outfits during the DLC levels and can then select them in the main menu^^
