Omg! His fur is so so long! When I first got my angora I had so much trouble grooming and he got really bad mats 😞 so glad I learned how to do it better! Thanks for sharing for others to learn!!
I just got a volunteer position as a caretaker for an elderly angora bunny who has been a victim of neglect. I've only ever had short-haired buns before so this is a big change. This video really helped me and I feel much more ready to help Pluis!!

Fabio is such a star. Every time he faces the camera I can hear him saying "Hello, ladies". This is the best Angora rabbit grooming video I've ever seen and I've seen alot!

It is such a relief to hear you say they need to be groomed every few days! I watched several videos where owners said they only groom once a month to get the mats out. The poor rabbit had to lie there for a couple of hours while they combed the mats out. Their reasoning was that if they groomed more than that, the rabbit would be bald. The poor bunnies.
Thank you for posting a nice safe way to grooming the bunny I have seen some vids that looked like they were being so ruff with bunny like they only reason they have the bunny is for the fur I have angora I thought she was a lion head but vet told she was angora she is a pet we don't use her for fur she is my baby I couldn't imagine beening so mean to such gentle creatures

I was told mine was a lion head but he’s deffo part angora as it was so long I ended up shaving him for his comfort
I just got an angora bunny a few days ago and I've always had issues grooming him, he tries to fight alot and dosent really stay there when I am trying to get the tangles out and sometimes I think I hold him wrong, but this video helped me to do it better and I will be following this from now on

Hes so good!! The neck is so difficult to get on my bun he absolutely hates it and pushes his head down tight. Mine is an angora miz so not as long of hair but he does get mats, so difficult to to groom for sure. He wasnt groomed as a baby( i didnt have him then) so hes slowly getting used to it but he does love it after how free he feels.

I wonder if she saves the fur? Beautiful bunny! I just bought a young English Angora and so amazed how much fur has grown in 2 weeks! Very therapeutic to brush him daily. I also allow him time out of his run few times a day to run and bink, that also loosens his fur males it's so soft. Can't wait till he is full grown!
Please get a blower to help maintain the coat of your angora. This process here just breaks hairs and increases problems. You are pulling hair out doing this! Blowing also helps with skin conditions by removing dander and helps prevent mites. I blow my angoras and rarely touch them with a comb other than on the face and ears.
We do blow as well. Our videos are sort of aimed at someone who has rescued or adopted an angora and needs to demat and maintain without a lot of professional equipment. 💕🐰💕
I have bought such a comb Special for my Agouti. He Love thats comb and enjoyed. Also my Smoke Girl live that with the comb.

I've never had any pets or livestock and angoras seem a decent place to start on both fronts. Soft and fluffy, useful, unlikely to scratch the couch to hell and back.
I wouldn’t start with them honestly. A short hair bunny is a better start.
They won't scratch your couch, but they'll chew all of your furniture and base boards if you don't properly bunny proof.
Also, angoras are rabbits with the most maintenance. Imo, the best beginner rabbit is a rex or mini rex

I have a lion head too I adopted from the rspca ( the black one in my pic ) but I think he was miss lablled because his hair is so long and he has the tufts on his ears not as long as the one in the video but long I had to shave him due to the matts as he hates being brushed he grunts and runs from me 😂
Can you show any tricks to let rabbits enjoy grooming because my rabbit doesn’t let me groom her at all
Use a soft baby brush and bunny will get to like bring groomed. Then use a paddle brush as in video. The baby brush won’t actually groom bunny. It’s just to get him used to being on the grooming table and having a soothing experience.
Thank you SO MUCH. We got a Netherland dwarf who is just the sweetest little baby and I have been afraid to brush her. Now she has some matted spots. I just used the wire brush instead of my soft bristled baby brush for her and it's coming out. I feel so bad for doing that to the little dear. I am never going to be afraid to brush her again. And I'm definitely getting those combs! We are getting a sweet 2year old girl who needs a new home tomorrow and she's an English Angora. So I'm definitely going to need them! Will you teach us when and if ever we should cut a knot? I did just brush my Netherland dwarf and I can't help being lighter and more superficial around places that I would think are more tender. Like her bottom and neck/ears so she does have a couple spots with clumps of fur that are about as thick as a penny is round. She's molting and the fur is not matted to her skin. It's like clumps that slowly come out. I hope I'm making sense. I've been searching the net for guidance since I got her 3 months ago and you don't lie about the conflicting info! I was near tears with a churning stomach before I found your channel! I don't want to hurt my baby! I'm also waiting for a groomer to call me back to schedule us so I can get more help and she sees the vet in two weeks for a check up and as much info as I can get. I have never had a bunny and I didn't know about molting which is what had prompted my search and searching beyond diet and habitat.
Check out grooming videos on the Razzle Dazzle Rabbitry channel. She uses scissors for grooming her rabbit and has videos on how to do it safely. She also a video or two on mat removal.
I highly recommend you get scissors that have blunt tips; they are far safer than pointed-tip scissors. Look on Amazon for the Lily Pet brand of curved, 6.5 inch grooming scissors with blunt tips. They work great on my EA.

That's understandable! I promise that after a few grooming sessions your bunny will get used to it, and you will gain confidence. -Bridget
Go slowly, speak softly, comb very gently with a light pressure and do just small sections at a time… then stop… and try it again the next day, then the next, then the next until you’ve completed all the combing needed. You may just be able to do 5 minute sessions at first, then increase each session as he becomes more used to be handled. Keep doing small sections each day to get him used to you and the feel of the comb. Patience, love and repetition is key to eventually getting him accustomed to the grooming and developing trust that you won’t hurt him.
If you comb him while he’s on the floor-instead of putting him up on a table-that would be even better because it’s less stressful on the rabbit.

i dont have angoras but i have 2 holland lops and I never knew I was supposed to comb through their paws. i was wondering why the hair there looked a bit matted but I assumed combing it would encourage sore hocks

I’m not 100% sure but I have a Lionhead rabbit that may be mixed with something else. The problem is he’s hair has grown and covered his forehead his cheeks the sides of his face in his eyes he’s like a sheep dog and if I stroke his hair straight back I can see his eyes but when he’s just running around you can’t see his eyes and I don’t know if he’s happy that way if he can see does anyone have experience with really big facial overgrowth?

I can get every area except for under the chin. He bites when I put my hand there. I know he’s doing it because it’s knotted under there. All I can do is try it through multiple attempts.

razor comb in that area. have a small cup with leave in conditioner near you so you can clean off the hair between passes then dip in liquid and repeat. once it's trimmed it will grow back in a few weeks.
@@margaretsinclair6697 Yes, Stephanie is great! She’s my favorite rabbit breeder on YT. She’s very concerned about the safety and welfare of the rabbit and is, thus, very gentle with rabbits. I think this comb out is, frankly, a bit too rushed and rough. Given how thin and fragile rabbit skin is, I don’t like to see so much tugging done on the wool. But the info presented and products used is very helpful.

This is not at all how we groom English Angoras for show or for keeping coat suitable for spinning. A blow dryer is the first essential tool, And we only use a brush on the feet and underneath areas

I recently got a Bunny with very long hair, but it's hair is all tangled. I was thinking of cutting it off but it's winter here and he lives outside... Is there any advice you could give me for this in particular? Cutting it off would resolve the problem in minutes, but I don't know.

When I say tangled I mean it's like a sheep, some parts like the tail and above, back legs, under the chin... Sorry for bad english

The only way to deal with bad tangles and mats is to carefully shave it off. Trying to comb it out pulls on the skin and is painful. If you are keeping it in a hutch outside, maybe using a heat lamp that is secured to a chain (so it doesn't fall and start a fire) or a heating unit can keep the space warm until his fur grows in again. Or maybe you can temporarily bring the rabbit inside until the fur grows in again. Using a sweater is also a good idea.

Please be more gentle with the brushes! And why are you pulling a seed out, rabbits should not eat seeds it's not safe! And there face is most rabbits favorite spot to be pet. And a tip maybe take it slowly and get him used to being on his back before you do a full groom. also when doing his ears and face maybe consider getting a softer brush!
Anyways thanks for giving me the tip to brush in layers. I got a new angora about 2 weeks ago and he's super cute!
So you don't have to work so hard at doing this, in the first step on the video use some children's detangling spray on the brush giving it one to two sprays on the brush as you are doing the lower half then again as you brush the top. This will make it easier on the bunny and on you.
But wouldn't the chemicals in the detangling spray be hurtful to/or bad for the rabbit when they groom themselve?
Would be great but rabbits groom themselves by licking meaning they will end up ingesting the chemicals. Would you like to lick that stuff off yourself if u had to?

This is absolutely not the way to groom an Angora.
A comb or brush should never be used as it breaks the structure of the coat and causes it to mat worse.
To properly care for the coat you need a blower.
This rabbits coat is absolutely being ruined.
exotic vet tech here!! actually, assuming your bunny isn't being used for their fur in any capacity, this is the best way to do it. Bunnies have a highly sensitive GI Tract and if they get any excess fur in there while grooming themselves, it has the potential to become deadly. I'm actually watching this video before sending it to a patient's bun parent's - they were blowing their bunny's fur and not combing or brushing it and it caused GI Stasis due to him excessively grooming himself. Folks, please don't just blow dry your bunnies! No coat or fur is worth their health.
I don't like this breed of rabbit at all, it's all wool. I only like Netherland Dwarfs and Lops
