The Type 45 is no ordinary ship, it's the most advanced ship in the world, it's stealthy design means it's very hard to detect, it's radar can track multiple targets over 250 miles away & it's missiles can travel at mach 4, all it needs to do is sit 200 miles off the argentinian coast & wait for your planes to get in range & take them out, easily...us Brits are not arrogant, just confident !!
Was also there on the day. Display was great, but have to agree that the F22, and the Belgium and Dutch F16's were better. But I think the best/loudest noise of the show has to go to this typhoon! Thanks and fantastic filming!
@TH7596 F-22 has exactly the same size air to air armament as the Typhoon, and the Typhoon can carry a heavier air to ground load out. In fact, it can carry a larger load out over all, as it can carry air to ground ordnance at the same time as it's full fighter loadout. F-22 can't if it want's to keep it's much-vaunted stealth characteristics.
@samuraikensai Typhoon would easily appear at a long distance when it has a weapons load, increasing RCS by a lot. B-2 is huge too but it has a much smaller RCS , and infrared signal than every fighter other than F-22. F-22 takes care to remain hidden no matter the method of tracking. Infrared has been addressed its why the engine nozzles look like they do, mix cool air with exhaust before it comes out the back. Add supercruise and infrared may not cut it.
@OlderG0ds Lightning was amazing...did you know that once a Lightning had a mock dogfight with an F-16, and the F-16 just couldn't get a lock on. The F-16 pilot said that he was getting so frustrated that he wanted to pull up alongside, open the canopy and punch the pilot LOL. :-)
@Mtk711s The E/F is in the same class as the F-16 so it can't really be compared to the F-22 as the F-22 is a multi-role superiority fighter, it's bigger, heavier, stronger in terms of speed and thrust to weight ratio and can carry heavier A-A A-G armament than both the F-16 and Typhoon so i don't know why we would be hating.
@viewson800 i dont think it does but the joint company that developed the eurofighter want funding at the moment to equip a test plane with thrust vectoring which would be interesting...i'd love to see how quick a eurofighter with thrust vectoring could turn...
@kevinramonejones7 yes they have, each country in the program is doing its bit so it will be a universal fighter (F-35) and yeah the new ones form China and Russia/India will be interesting opponents to the US designs, but in my mind i respect Russian designs, they are usually very challenging and versatile so it will be interesting to see
@anykinewhat It can see F-35...have you not read about PIRATE IRST? Also, a flight of Typhoons can use their radar to hit a target from different angles and build up a 3 dimensional image. Stealth aircraft are not safe. The problem is, when building a stealth-focused plane, is that the technology to defeat the stealth features catches up quickly. Typhoon doesn't have to worry about that!
@Mtk711s they are made to do different things but i a large scale war scenario both the F-22 and Typhoon would be on the same side performing different duties so there is really no need to compare them even if they were the same class. typhoon would be doing close range aircraft supression will the F-22 would be high above taking out bombers, bases and any enemy aircraft coming in 50nm away from were the typhoon would be operating
I don't know why Canada isn't looking at the Eurofighter for it's next combat aircraft, twin engine reliability, and kickass performance. But noooo, gotta pander to the USA....

@WinchesterRanger I think its more impressive with the centreline tank; what's the point of a fighter (like the Dutch F-16) running on fumes, displaying clean? What's it displaying - that it can manoeuvre when its almost empty? Big deal - my crap car can probably do 100mph if I take out all the seats, spare tyre etc, but what does that show - nothing. Why doesn't the Dutch F-16 stick a normal/typical mission load and show us what it can do? Typhoon could do 85% of this routine with a full load.

I agree, we did have the advantage with the sidewinder, but our ships still had to travel 8000 miles to get there, your planes only had to fly 300 miles from base, today our armed forces are much more advanced while yours have remained static for 30 years, the Typhoon would make mincemeat of the Mirage III & you know it.. dont try again, it would only be more humiliation for your country :D

I agree regarding the F-35...i've always thought that the F-35 would end up being more relevant than F-22. It may not be as "stealthy", but it's certainly a more flexible design and could well step into F-16's shoes very effectively.

Stealth covers many different things...including visual. F-22 is FUCKING HUGE. Typhoon has a smaller RCS than MOST fighters in the world...less than a metre square. That might not be as good as F-22, but it won't show up as a fighter-sized target on radar. More like a large bird. Low RCS design means tons of compromises.
