Avg electric rate for home miners power, noise, make home BTC mining pointless. Stick to GPU mining, use Nice hash services. Even Alt-coin ASICs that use less power ala KS0 can just turn into doorstops.
It really depends on your expectations and if you will host them or not. Extremely profitable opportunity even for everyday people IMO as long as the above things are in check. But I support all types of mining, so whatever floats your boat!
