My father took me and a friend there as kids. I am not sure what year it was late 60s or early 70s. There had been huge rains all the gates were open. The water was thundering with the dam and ground around it shaking. I don't know why or how, but we ended up having a tour of the generators and through the tunnels. ( I do know my father had worked for a company that built the original generators or parts of them.) It is an amazing thing. We topped the day off walking across the wire suspension bridge that used to be a little way down from the dam. The wind generated by the force of water coming over the spillways and almost filling the catchment area had it swinging. Talk about exciting!
As you can see 50 years or so later the experience left a lasting impression.
