South African music deserves much more attention! I just discovered it about a month ago, and I'm shocked why it's not more popular. Tons of great music!!!
Who's sleeping on it though? It's very popular across the African continent and the black diaspora. It's not western mainstream, if that means it's being slept on then well oh well.
+Joe Parker I don't care if you are or not. My point is your ignorance regarding SA doesn't mean it's being slept on. And people usually make these types of comments when a song or music isn't western mainstream. Research is key along with Nigerians, SAs dominate MTV African music awards and so on. Afro-House is big.
Actually you are right, it really seems I wrote that way like if it would've been slept on because it's not western. I had a friend from SA, and when I was listening some tribal house radio he told me about the similar music and nightlife in SA and how popular and traditional it is there, but I always thought he is talking about the tribal I was listening to and I knew of (so I thought now I know how it is there). But when I came across tracks like this one and a few others, I realised that I knew nothing. It was something I liked and it was really new for me (and my musical palette is quite wide!), so probably that's where my "shock" came from that I didn't run into music like this earlier, not even in the western underground. :)
@hannah_stop this mentality of thinking everyone who says something you not expecting is fighting. The guy appreciate SA music the way I see it and he would like to see more of it on Western platforms for you to say it doesn't need Western platforms because it is big in Africa is being short sighted.
+Romlanco it was wololo by babes wodumo on black panther, who is also an SA artist..they took this sound from SA to show case our beautiful continent Africa

Gobisiqolo is a Zulu sentence that translates to arch your back/bend over. You can see it in the dance moves and Busiswa even says it in her verse. This genre is called Gqom and although it's not as big in SA right now this song is still a classic. It was even in the background during Black Panther when Shuri shows T'Challa the two Black Panther suits in her lab.
