Nvidia Shield TV Remote Battery Replacement

  • This is a quick and easy guide for replacing the batteries in the Nvidia Shield TV 2019 remote control.
Unfortunately it is not obvious how to open the remote control battery cover, and it can be difficult to open even when you know how (or think you know how).
Complicating matters, I've discovered that there are two different variants of the remote control. (Which drove me nuts when I couldn't open a friends remote - because I was completely unaware of the cutout/button on the back.)
Note the two remote variants are not specifically in relation to the two device models (Nvidia Shield TV and Nvidia Shield TV Pro). In this case both remotes are from the Pro model purchased in Australia. The remote control having the cutout on the back was purchased most recently.
Here's the Nvidia customer help link - which only refers to one style of remote.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, the remote takes two AA batteries.
Finally, if for some reason the remote control ceases to show the backlight, then the problem could be just that the remote is no longer paired with the Shield TV. Try to initiate Bluetooth pairing by using the Shield TV Remote app for your phone.

I legit thought this was some high tech battery-less remote. Thanks!

Thanks for this video. Other posts show only solution for one of the remotes, which wasn't mine. Mine was the second one.

Nice. Quick and to the point. It's a new remote v2 and couldn't get the back off. Had to make sure I was doing it correctly.

Perhaps if you explain your problem I might be able to help.
