  • I found myself with an unplanned week off from work and nothing to do. It was the Sunday before Labor Day at about 10 a.m. and I decided to fly to Denver, rent a Harley and ride the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. In less than 24 hours I was in Denver, strapping my luggage onto a rented 2021 Heritage Softail and heading up into the mountains. I traveled just inside the mountain range and then south to ride up Pikes Peak. The weather was perfect and the Heritage Softail was the perfect bike for the week ahead.

    I didn’t know they put a new summit visitor center up there. Last time I went, it was a pretty old small building. Looks pretty nice, I’ll have to go up again sometime. Great video!

    We were there 4 years ago, two-up on an Ultra. I said I’d never ride there again, but I might for a donut. That was thoroughly enjoyable.

    The last and only time up the summit was aug 1974 with a 1973 honda cb 750. CSP(I think) had a brake check area then. They had me take all my packed stuff and lay it on the ground. They were not to concerned about brakes....just searching my stuff.

    Thanks for the video tour of Pikes Peak. I have been thinking about riding my bike from Missouri to Colorado this summer. After watching your video I have decided that I'm going to do that.
    By the way, Ignore the idiots. The heritage is a man's bike, because it would take a man to ride one cross country. Any soft ass man can buy a touring bike and ride cross country with all the plush creature comforts.

      Thanks for watching CharleyRider. I wish you a safe ride to Colorado this summer. You won’t regret it! There is so much to see and do in Colorado. Ride Safe.

    Hello, Im on the market for a bike like yours. Only problem I see are the spoked wheels (tubed tires) have you ever had a problem with them? My main concern Is having a puncture at highway speeds and lose control of the bike. Tubed tires lose psi inmediately, meanwhile tubless tires keep air for More time. Whats your experience with this?

    • @Badgerbiker
      @Badgerbiker  Před rokem

      You are correct for the most part, tube tire do tend to loose air quickly when the tube fails vs a nail in a tubeless tire. There are some bikes with spike wheels that do run tubeless tires. BMW and Harleys both run them on some models. The best part about Harleys is there are tons of aftermarket options. I’m sure if you have a Heritage Softail you could find solid wheels for it and run tubeless tires. Thanks for watching.

      @@Badgerbiker thanks for answering, so no problems so far with your bike with stock spoked wheels?

    • @Badgerbiker
      @Badgerbiker  Před rokem

      @@guszam1036 the Heritage Softail in my video is actually an rental. I own two other Harleys, a Street Glide with cast wheels and a Sportster with spoke wheels. I haven’t had any issues with the spoke wheels on my Sportster and I beat on it pretty hard. Even a little off road riding occasionally. But I check my spokes and hubs once in awhile for tension and wear. Never found any issues yet. Only takes a couple minutes to look them over. There are drawback to cast wheels as well. When you bend the edge of the wheel on a bad pothole you can get a near blowout situation as well. Spoke wheels can be more forgiving to rough roads and pothole. That is why you only see spoke wheels on dirt bikes and adventure bikes. They can take the hits and the tube holds air. It all depends on what type of riding you do and what you look you want your bike to have. For road riding I would choose cast wheels in case I hit a nail. I can plug it and get to point B. But I do like the look of classic spoke wheels.
