    I really like the philosophy of this thing. More sailing, less stuff. You actually do not need a huge condo that floats. The market for a boat like this will always be small, because most of the people who have enough money to buy it actually care more about spacious accommodations on the hook than they do about the ripping fun they can have underway. But for the small set of people that actually get it, it is really beautifully executed.

      Neel already makes trimarans that are floating condos. And yes Less is more. Less to break. Less to maintain. More time to sail and relax.

    I can understand making the dining table bigger for extra guests, but this is a TINY boat. Space would be better utilized IMHO, if you got rid of the large dining table, and you provided a larger kitchen with more amenities suitable for longer cruises.
    As an option you could offer both floor plans (for short term duration cruises and longer term duration cruises).
    I don’t know your current customer demographics, but it could be interesting to try it, and see if you can pull customers from other markets.
    I like the induction oven and the microwave oven. Add a dishwasher and a washer, and make the sink larger with more work prep area.Change the toilet for either a composting toilet or an incinerating toilet, and maybe you can get rid of the black water tank.
    If you can get rid of the black tank, you can add a water maker, and a larger fresh water tank. If you can’t get rid of the black tank, perhaps a vacuum toilet might do the trick.
    Get rid of the Yanmar engine. Place some type of electric propulsion system with regeneration with a diesel generator. Use the weight advantage to add as many batteries as possible. Add a hot water heat pump for hot water.
    Now, you have enough electricity for cooking, washing, hot water, and cruising at low speeds for x-number of hours (if the batteries are low, then the diesel generator turns on).
    Finally, enclose the helm station, and make it SAFE. You might have to increase the boom height. The idea is to be able to sit comfortably for night cruising with unpleasant weather outside for several days. I think a single helm station is sufficient, and the savings can be applied for making an enclosed helm station.
    This is perhaps now a vessel capable of doing Transatlantic crossings.
    I love the work you guys have done, and I like all the ingenious ways of maximizing space and comfort, but this boat has more potential than just short coast hopping trips.

    • @ek9772
      @ek9772 Před 4 lety +3

      Fran F I know, but they could extend the galley into part of the seating area, perhaps up to the mast and after the mast the dining area. If done right, it could add space for a dishwasher, a washer, a refrigerator, a freezer, a pantry, and more prep area.
      Without a proper galley, why spend the extra money on it when you can buy the smaller models and go out for single day or weekend trips. With the smaller models you prep food at home, and the small kitchen is great to serve it, but I would not like to prepare food in it, and I can’t even see myself on a week long trip without going mad in it trying to prepare, cook, and serve food.
      The water tank is so small that washing dishes by hand three times a day will finish it soon. It needs a proper water maker and ways to conserve on water use like a composting toilet, a dishwasher, and a washer.

      @@ek9772 While those are all good suggestions, they seem to go out of their way to focus on reducing weight, and keeping her narrow and fast. That is their bread and butter right now, but I am sure that once they get the kinks worked out they will begin to add options, and optional layouts. I can see a lot of ways to improve blue water long range market share, but they all add to the weight and increase windage, etc.

    This would be a fun coastal boat in Florida, fast and shallow draft. I see no need for the dual helms. Keep the portside with all the relevant controls. Two things: I do not understand why designers think we need massive dining room tables. It's as if eating with a crowd is the main reason for having a boat. Secondly, the helm stations are unprotected. Spray from speed might not drench the helmsman but rain absolutely will. How long can the helmsman reasonably function in a 15 - 20 knot beat upwind in the rain, boat speed plus wind speed. Could be brutal. Seems like a lot of electrical gear. I would want this outfitted with wind mill and a hard but collapsible Bimini with bit solar panels and some flexible panels that could be deployed on the amas trampolines while underway.
    This is a pretty boat. I like the engine room, roomy! Easy access. The interior is very nice, warm and comfortable for the size limitations.

  • @___Chris___
    @___Chris___ Před 4 lety +2

    With the disclaimer that I'm only an armchair sailor, I think this much I do understand: digital control panels may look nice but aren't a great idea for longer passages. If the panel breaks down you lose the full functionality all at once. Instead, old-school physical switches where you can do simple diagnostics with a voltmeter and perform repairs yourself while on the way are superior for safety. Bluewater boats ain't Tesla cars. Maybe some customers fall for that, but I'm sure just as many consider this as a no-go.
    Otherwise: great boat!

    A lot of attention to very attractive interior finish. From my take she’s a bit overwhelming with the below decks furnishings. All the same, very pretty topsies. Maybe the twin wheels are not necessary on a yacht this size.

    I LOVE these boats! They are so beautifully finished and designed. But I can't get my head around the price! Starting at mid 600's Euros when you can get a Neel 47 starting at ~$450K for a MUCH bigger and more practical boat in almost all regards. No it won't fold up, but there is no comparison as to cabins, storage, galley, etc. Maybe they are happy selling to a very small market, but it would be nice to see something not so hand built and perfect that would compete better with Corsair. (Their 37 base price is only $230K Euros. You could buy TWO, fully kitted out for one DF 40!) 👀

      And there you can see a difference in the cost of building in Denmark versus Vietnam.
      Note: I'm not saying one place or boat is better than the other, but the difference in labor costs must be mentioned, if you're wondering why there is so large a price difference.
      P.S. Some of the Neel boats had major design/construction problems like the transom detaching from the hull.

    $879,000.00 for that is.... WOW! Expensive coastal cruiser. 4 adults with only a week of food at best with that tiny fridge. It's cool, but just not practical for much blue water cruising or a live aboard. Nice to look at and would be fun, just not for long term ocean sailing compared to other options in that price range. Of course my range is less than half of that, so I have no skin in the game. But even as a millionaire who wants a sailboat, I'm sure they'd be looking at a different amenity type sailboat to sail.
