Eurovision is my passion. Eurovision was my work and I am still gladly part of the professional community of this project. I started at Eurovision 2016 as Czech Head of Delegation. Such a Eurovision story! Form Eurovision in Sweden I went to antoher ESC experience. Kiiv 2017 Eurovision. This was my first and last failiur. Sometimes you need to learn trough losing even it is not plasant. We ended up 13 in the semifinal, second best score of Eurovision Czechia back then. But after this we established ESCZ national selection format. It was mostly held online. Because of this we found Mikolas Josef who went 6th at Eurovision 2018 in Portugal. Than 11th with Lake Malawi, at Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Eurovision story is crazy. After finding all candidates and songs (-1) for ESCZ 2020 I resigned and left the television for working freelance.
Not to stop being part of Eurovision, I created this channel as I have an urge not to do just Eurovision Reactions from a different perspective. But also to do national selection reactions, watch others how they do their craft and also give a different approach for Eurovision fans.
I am very glad was part of many eurovision juries. Mostly in national selection and since 2017 I was in MGP Norway, Eurovision Malta, UMK national selection Finland. Juror in Melodifestivalen 2016. Biggest national selection. Also helped Eurovision Ireland, Eurovision Estonia, Eurovision Azerbaijan and many others.
Just amazing to be part of this community, so check my Humans of Eurovision, check my Eurovision reaction videos.

As an Israeli I have to say something. I think our song was perfect, I really do, but it's not a winner. It's top 5 (in my opinion). Croatia should have won not just because of the song, but because of the artist. He was pure music, not an attention seeker, not a self-righteous who thought that bullying a 20 years old girl is ok. I understand your disappointment Croatia, but just know that being number 1 in televote means so much more than the Juries!!!!!!!

Marko (Baby Lasagna) who wrote the song entirely on his own, dancers who are amateurs along with his friends, a drummer who is still in high school... At Dora, he had his very first performance ever. In a short time, he progressed very quickly. Now he's owning the stage! This guy is truly brilliant. I don't think we even realize💥👏👏greetings from Croatia!

He had so much raw national stuff in his song and also the clothing, everything. It was fun and also interesting story behind the song, I mean the CAT, what else do you need? I agree - he was my winner. If felt really painful to listen to the press in the UK rip apart the contest calling it a freak show - also watching with friends and seeing their very negative reaction to a lot of the acts, and being questioned about why I watch this dirge.... I personally only liked a few this year and was dismayed at what went on. Marco seemed a bright light and I was delighted to see how his country got behind him.

    • @JanBors
      @JanBors  Před 24 dny +2

The same here now worries. They are partly right with few things as this comes with past Eurovision bad reputation (especially in 2000s), and this years joke acts and topics around Eurovision. This can only change when we stop playing some cards and every country starts to sending rly amazing stuff. Especially big 5 countries. If we have more Loreens or Maneskin each year (nothing this year), less and less people will be saying that.

    • @trickexp

Marko is a devoted Catholic, but he stood up publicly for Nemo in CRO media when ppl [even within the LGBT community] were speaking negatively about Nemo's identity. He's an example of tolerance in a plural society, but nobody talked about that. Many thanks to you at least for standing up for him. I once wrote on your channel that small countries like Czechia or Croatia will never win this contest, and you kindly disagreed. I'm not trying to take away anything from Nemo's superb performance, but now I stand even more firmly by my previous statement. Current ESC system and the players behind it does not allow a no-name artist to win. There must be a list of strong names behind your project, otherwise your song and creativity won't be rewarded no matter how you performed. Many greetings to you from Croatia and thank you once more for your beautiful comments. We're very sad we won't be hosting you and other dear YT channels in Zagreb next year.

That is why juries were reintroduced in 2009: to put an end to the streak of Eastern European countries winning. It is a sad reality because Eastern European countries can not win Eurovision on their own merit anymore (Ukraine being the sole exception thus far). Instead, they have to westernize their Eurovision entries to stand a chance of winning. That is why juries need to be reformed.

He knew it was bad PR and that beeing so open about it could be "a shot in the leg" for him, but he wanted to be honest about it. After that even the left-wing media that usualy targets chatolic church in every given oportunity stood behind him and made no fuss about it. Also few members of his team are atheist and he's totaly cool with that. And that is all that matters - be truthful with yourself but also respect others and their believes.

Although the EBU made some mistakes this year, not everything can be blamed on its part. I agree with you when it comes to some artists hijacking the contest and making the situation more tense. It was tiring. It really looked like some of them wanted to turn Eurovision from a song contest into a political speech contest.

The amount of pressure that was put on him two days prior Finals was insane! People demanding from him to make a statement about Israel participation, Joost disqualification, this and that. I think (it’s a theory) he lost a few tele-vote points there, and the group of a loud ones received those votes. Who is the real winner this year? No one will actually ever know, because it was a political charade and not a contest.
Who was genuin actually? And who wanted to hang out with cool kids? Who knew they are definitely not winning and decided to camouflage it by bringing other issues? Or was it frustration? 🤫

I agree with everything that you said, especially the part where Croatia managed to win the televoting despite not 1, but 2 countries attracting a ridiculous amount of politically motivated telepoints. And unlike the factual winner Nemo, who made their participation all about non-binary representation (like the song itself), Marko didn't promote any agenda. He brought *music* (in the Eurovision context of course).
No offense to Nemo and their entry, which is a very well deserved winning entry, but casual viewers who already had a bad image of Eurovision are gonna support even more now the view that Eurovision is all about the LGBTQIA+ community, look at what won:
In addition, Marko's success story is the inspiration which everyone needs to pursue their dreams, and winning Eurovision would have been movie worthy to say the least. But since this is real life and not a movie, of course the ending was not ideal. That doesn't change the fact that Marko is already a winner (in a long-term sense, his entry will be fondly remembered for many years) and he has a bright career ahead of him. Most importantly, he managed to give hope to a whole nation, unite them and make them proud. Some things are more valuable than winning Eurovision.
That said, I hope that Croatia takes advantage of the momentum created thanks to BL and win Eurovision soon. Switzerland also stood a chance in 2020-1, and it came 3 years later. Well, unless it is actually impossible for small countries to win, like another comment here says.

Agree with you, I really don't like that some artist take one side in extreme way (I talk about the extreme hate that was shown against Eden Golan, young innocent singer, hate that came from Joost, Bambi, Norway and Marina Satti).
I just want to say as an Israeli, that it was unproportional step to send NL home because it is punishment to the whole NL people and I'm sure it broke their hearts. We in Israel loved the songs of NL and Greece but after we saw the real faces of Joost and Marina, we couldn't support or vote for them.
I also must say that the 39 minutes of juries votes were difficult for us in Israel, we felt like the kid in the school that no one wants to talk with him. Everyone knows that Eden gave beautifue and powerful performance and was deserve to much more points from the juries, but we are happy with the 5th place :)

About Joost, lets see how disproportional it was. Imo some artists really did not understand what Eurovision is and behaved on its behalf very very badly. Blaming just EBU and Israel, this is something which must not be tolerated. On the other hand, not everyone from Israel's delegation behaved correctly, which I might understand but cannot defend also.
Also many "journalist" just put a shame to be called like this and so CZcamsrs. Not to mentinoing this absolute toxicity among fans.
