Jimmy does what's good for the numbers, he (probably) doesn't even like his own persona judging by how he drinks off screen. Everyone can shit on him or dislike him, but the late night viewers apparently do like what they see. I'm not a fan of his show, but the man does his job and does it pretty well.

CBS obviously didn’t like it and now black-framed glasses Colbert is nothing like how he was when he was picked up for the gig. He’s good at what he does. It’s not my favorite talkshow host by any stretch but he’s a great impressionist, he’s fun and lighthearted with the guests and there’s a place for that. He cant conduct an interview to save his life, the phony laughing is like nails on a chalkboard, and he stoops down to pre-scripted, rehearsed bits with guests where they halfass their way through acting like its improvised. Its insulting to the intelligence of the viewers, and jimmy fallon should be better than that. Especially because he has a lot of other talents he could be relying on.
