They say opposites attract... He's enjoying the apocalypse and she's trying to survive it. I like how they showed the same scene at the store from both their perspective.

I like how cool minded and organised Shizuka is during this whole apocalypse. She really has her priorities straight
And then there's Akira's dumbass just living every day like it's his last
She's determined to survive but she's just not living yet. To hell with priorities, she in the end of days, just live bro
She's just surviving and not living it's like people just barely making ends meet to survive but not enjoying life at all
But for how many years can she have the same mentality. Sheâs trying her best to survive believing that thereâs still someone out there she can rely on or someoneâs out there developing some sort of cure. Sheâs optimistic in that sense but what exactly are the chances of that happening? If she continues living like that sheâll find herself mentally and emotionally tired and empty. I believe humans are creatures that can go beyond the limit and work hard so long as they have a goal or some kind of motivation.
It's really cool how it applies to philosophies in life. Mc wants to live fast and die young, doing the things he likes. Shizuka is the kind that plans for the future. Just like how people plan their savings, when to get married, when to get a house, when to get promoted.
Truck-kun nearly ended this anime if it wasnât for Shizuka who saved Akira đ

but in an extra chapter they were shown how they survived that, and then made a goal of 100 places to travel.

I mean they've been showing and talking a lot about common zombie tropes so I wouldn't be surprised if he does turn at the end or if his parents are already dead.

I know everyone is clowning on Akira for being un-serious, but like the whole point of the show is to live your best life with the time you've got. Neither Akira nor Shizuka have the right mindset, they gotta help each other get somewhere in the middle. You gotta be able to be serious AND let loose, it's no good surviving if you don't know how to live. That's what Akira's three years of office hell literally was, surviving but without a reason to live.
Akira's POV really only works in fiction.
Try that in real life and you'd end up on the street diseased and starving, alone and abandoned, or die a reckless death, but "it was a lit death, yo."
To each their own.
Akira knows he's eventually gonna become a zombie so he's truly living what's left of his life to the fullest.
While she's taking vitamins, exercising, no sugar to eventually become the healthiest meal for some zombie in the future.

It's very interesting how they're setting up this show... they have the duality of the comedic zombie films like Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead paired up with the Doom prepper fantasies of the Romero line of movies based on personal perceptions of the situation between the main characters of the show.
I feel like that's a running theme going on and we'll see a different perspective from the two we have yet to see (from the ED).

What I love about this series is how near-realistic things can go in a zombie apocalypse. Everyone makes it so serious and dreary when there might be someone like Akira who may see this world as his dream and does things to the fullest before dying. There will be people like Shizuka who are strategic and mindful, but should also find ways to live their life despite complications.
We don't know how we'll act if a zombie apocalypse actually happens one day, especially applying realism to them like dead people's flesh will start rotting and falling apart and adding in rigor mortis, so we are just imagining all different corners of what imagination living in a ZA will be like.
Fun Fact: The author of this also created "Alice in Borderline"
I had the exact same thought that the main character is basically real-world Luffy but in a zombie apocalypse.
How is Roshi having a hard time wrapping his head around zombies reaching the balcony?
It's a _straight shot_ from the front door to the glass door of the balcony. lol
The question is how are Zombies not reaching mc's apartment especially when he is screaming his lungs out.
Zombies are usually depicted as beings unable to get through a locked door. So assuming the front door is locked the zombies should never have been able to enter the apartment in the first place.

There are _countless_ instances where zombies in fiction _break down_ doors - I'm not sure what a lock has to do with anything - zombies aren't generally depicted as smart enough to open a door normally in the first place.
If a _locked door_ was all that was needed to stop a horde of zombies in their tracks, then no one would find them interesting or scary.

in the manga shizuka was watching zombieland, reading tons of zombie flicks like walking dead and stuff, that's how she understand the terminology of "walker" "runner" etc.

I'm betting the samurai girl is a weeb tourist or something. I haven't read the manga but considering she looks the most out of place of the four of them; like she's the most appropriately dressed for the apocalypse. Like, she just raided a museum or something (like the new Zombieland movie with Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenburg in the White House brandishing George Washington's musket and a katana from the Emperor of Japan to Eisenhower after WWII, against who they think is a zombie) and is just living out her post-apocalyptic ronin fantasy. This might be the Fallout 3 nostalgia, but if I ever had the opportunity to raid a museum in the middle of an apocalypse for weaponry, I'm going window shopping through the Smithsonian Archives for Abe Lincoln's Henry Rifle.

minor but interesting change. in the manga when he first met the girl and after that lecture on priorities with zombies appearing what she did was throw sheets of paper on the floor, zombies running towards them ended up slip and trip on the papers to fall down. here they completely changed that to predict the truck coming to ram the zombies.
if dont know the manga tone: it is very slapstick comedic 90% of the time. based on these 2 eps i wonder if the yare leaning towards a bit more serious tone vs the slapstick from manga.

Netflix is also making a live action adaptation of this show that comes out next month, looks like itâll be pretty decent. Fair warning tho, the trailer for the live action has spoilers for some stuff that happens in the show that hasnât happened in the anime yet for obvious reasons.

This is the same creator who made Alice In Borderland, I think. I already notice the similarities but I also see that itâs written as a polar opposite. MC had to survive and suffered the loss of his best friends in another world while in this show the MC is more happier surviving a zombie apocalypse than he is in his horrible work life.
